2024: Possibility of payment by biometrics for VTB customers
VTB launched the ability to pay for biometrics for its customers - bank account holders and users of the Fast Payment System. The project was implemented jointly with the National Payment Card System (NSPK) and the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT), the operator of the Unified Biometric System. VTB announced this on October 4, 2024.
Now VTB customers can link payment for biometrics to their account mobile application in the SBP. For October 2024, you can make a payment on biometrics in the metro. In the Kazan future, it is planned to appear the same type of contactless payment transport in others cities and at various trade points. countries
In order to start paying for purchases in person, a VTB client needs to register biometrics in a bank branch or in the Public services Biometrics"" application, connect biometrics to a VTB account in the SBPei application and give VTB consent to the processing of biometric personal data.
Payment for goods and services using biometric technologies is the future of domestic fintech. With instant payments, it allows you to receive services seamlessly - the client does not even need to think about paying for goods or services: take out a bank card from his pocket or attach his phone to the terminal. The use of VTB, NSPK and CBT technologies guarantees the security of payments and the safety of user data, - said Sergey Bezbogov, deputy head of the technological unit - senior vice president of VTB. |
The ability to pay or go to events or buildings on biometrics and other services will be integrated into an increasing number of different spheres of life - and in the near future, most actively in trade and transport, - said Nikita Chugunov, Senior Vice President of VTB, Head of the Digital Business Department. |
Payment for biometrics takes place in a matter of seconds. It is enough for a person to look at a specialized terminal, after which the purchase amount will be written off. This is a simple and safe customer path that will change the country's payment market. Thanks to the developed cross-banking solution based on the infrastructure of the NSPK and the Center for Biometric Technologies, any bank in the country can connect to bioequiring, and their clients can pay for purchases in a new contactless way. Together with VTB, we will continue to develop this project, - commented Maxim Krukelis, Director of the Operations and Technology Department, member of the Board of the National Payment Card System. |

Connection of all major banks of the Russian Federation
As it became known at the end of March 2022, all major Russian banks joined the SBPei application, an analogue of Apple Pay and Google Pay based on the Fast Payment System. Most credit institutions will launch this service on April 1, 2022.
RIA Novosti was informed about its readiness to do this within the specified period by the Oskov Credit Bank, Rosbank, St. Petersburg Bank, MTS Bank, Дом.РФ Bank, Promsvyazbank and Absolut Bank.
Post Bank reported that they are already completing the necessary work and will connect to the service in the very near future. Anastasia Maslennikova, director of innovations at the credit institution, recalled that by the end of March 2022, most customers have the opportunity to make purchases through SBP in the applications of their banks. One of the factors restraining the expansion of payment acceptance through the SBP is the support of this technology on the side of the seller - a trade and service enterprise. This, according to Maslennikova, can slow down the mass spread of the service.
In addition, the SBPei application has already been implemented by Russian Standard Bank and Expobank. Currently, the main payment scenario through this system is a QR code. Now market participants are working to pay through SBPei by simply attaching a smartphone to the terminal.
According to the decision of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the payment application "SBPei" is mandatory for Russian banks participating in the Fast Payment System from April 2022. It is reported that the developers are working to ensure that customers can pay through SBPei simply by attaching a smartphone to the terminal - using NFC. In addition, another contactless payment service is available to Russians - Mir Pay from the Mir payment system. By the end of March 2022, the main payment scenario through SBPei involves the use of a QR code.[1]
2021: NFC testing
On December 20, 2021, NSPK announced the completion of testing contactless payment based on NFC technology in the SBPei application. It is planned that in 2022 this feature will appear in the application. To make a payment, you will need to attach a smartphone with an SBP application to a special label or other device that transmits a payment link to the SBP using NFC technology. Bank Russian Standard and INPAS have developed a special terminal that allows you to accept payment in this way.
One-touch payment will be available in retail outlets where the SBP payment link is transmitted using NFC technology. This can be implemented using, for example, an NFC tag or a seller's smartphone, to which you will need to attach a phone with a loaded SBP application to make a payment.
This payment method will be available to customers of credit institutions that supported the application. As of December 2021, this is the Russian Standard Bank and SKB-Bank.
It is planned that by April 2022, all banks with a universal license, including systemically important ones, will provide their customers with the opportunity to pay for goods and services using SBPei.
The solution meets all current safety standards. The reliability of operations through the application is ensured on the side of the Bank of Russia, NSPK and participating banks of the SBP.
NSPK plans to release application updates, making SBPei more comfortable for buyers and businesses.
People are used to quickly paying for goods and services using various "payes." In 2022, the SBPei application will implement a payment method, which will also be simple and convenient for the user. To pay, you will simply need to attach a smartphone with an SBP application to a special label or other device that transmits a payment link to the SBP using NFC technology. We see that the market has already begun to create various solutions for accepting payments using this method. The development of Bank Russky and INPAS will allow businesses to accept payment both using this functionality of the SBP, and when using other methods common among buyers, said Dmitry Kolesnikov, director of innovative services development at NSPK. |
