Reduction in the production of wires for power lines by 8% to 29.8 thousand tons
The production of wires for overhead power lines (power lines) in Russia in 2024 amounted to 29.8 thousand tons, having decreased by 8% compared to 2023. This is evidenced by the data of the analytical company Alto Consulting Group, released in October 2025.
According to Alto Consulting Group, the result reflects the influence of factors associated with a change in the structure of demand, fluctuations in metal prices and a decrease in investment in the energy sector. The Volga Federal District became a key region, providing 44.0% of total production.
Alto Consulting Group analysts identified the key circumstances that led to the reduction in production:
Change in demand structure. Construction and energy companies have revised plans for the purchase of cable and conductor products. Customers optimize costs and delay the implementation of some projects.
Fluctuations in metal prices. Volatility in the cost of aluminum and steel directly affects the cost of wires. Manufacturers faced unpredictable costs when planning the release.
Reduced investment in the energy sector. The decrease in funding for new power grid infrastructure facilities has reduced the need for conductor products. Energy companies have concentrated on maintaining existing networks.
For the period from 2022 to 2024, the average cost of wires for overhead power lines among manufacturers increased by 1.0% - from ₽259 849.8 per ton to ₽262 475.6 per ton. The minimum increase in prices is explained by the rise in price of raw materials and an increase in production costs.
In May 2025, the average price decreased by 1.8% compared to April and amounted to ₽255 875.0 per ton. The correction may indicate a temporary weakening of demand from construction and energy companies. Manufacturers are forced to adjust pricing policies in the face of competition for customers.[3]
Generator production in Russia increased by 9.6% over the year and reached 772 MW
The production of generator plants with diesel engines in Russia in 2024 amounted to 772 MW, an increase of 9.6% compared to 2023. This is evidenced by the data of the analytical company Alto Consulting Group, released in October 2025.
The Russian market continues to show steady growth, despite challenges in the global power, a shortage of individual components and high competition from foreign manufacturers. The Central Federal District became the leader in production, providing 32.7% of the total.
The dominance of the Central Federal District is explained by the concentration of industrial enterprises, the logistics availability of the region and the presence of large consumers in industry, power and construction. Proximity to the main markets reduces the transport costs of manufacturers.
The location of production facilities in the central part of the country ensures the rapid delivery of equipment to customers from different regions. Developed transport infrastructure creates competitive advantages for local manufacturers.

In 2024, the production of toroidal transformers in Russia increased to 1.26 million units. The indicator increased by 6% compared to the previous year. Such data in October 2025 leads the analytical company BusinesStat in its annual market research.
Over the five-year period from 2020 to 2024, transformer output increased by 19%. In 2020, production was 1.06 million units. In 2021, the figure increased to 1.09 million units. The growth was 3%. In 2022, production reached 1.17 million units. The increase compared to the previous year was 7%. In 2023, 1.19 million transformers were produced. The increase was 2%.
The main growth factors were the processes of import substitution and localization of production. Domestic companies have expanded their production capacities and product range. This made it possible to reduce dependence on foreign supplies of finished products and components.
An additional incentive for the development of the market was the modernization of the energy infrastructure. There is also an increase in the need for low-power transformers. The industry continues to face certain difficulties.
Among the problems of the market, experts note competition with cheap imported brands. There is also a shortage of qualified professionals. Complex certification procedures further hinder the development of the industry.
The largest manufacturers of toroidal transformers in Russia are:
- HR Energy LLC.
- Nevsky Transformer Plant Volkhov LLC.
- LLC "Electrical switchboard-K°."
- CJSC Transmash Interstate Concern.
- LLC "Plant of Transformers and Magnetic Conductors."
Analysts predict further production growth in 2025. It is expected that Russian enterprises will continue to increase the production of transformers. This will contribute to the further replacement of imported products on the market.[5]
Reduction of electrical insulation reinforcement production by 19.3% to 3.2 thousand tons
In 2024, the production of electrical insulation valves from plastics in Russia amounted to 3.2 thousand tons, which is 19.3% lower than in 2023. The data indicate a significant decrease in output volumes in the industry, which is associated both with a change in the structure of demand and with general economic conditions. The leader in terms of output is the Central Federal District, which has concentrated about 63.9% of production, which confirms the high concentration of enterprises in the region. Such data in October 2025 were published on the website of Alto Consulting Group (ACG).[6]
The production of power wires in Russia for the year soared by 26.1% to 1246 thousand km
The production of power wires and cords in Russia reached 1,246,3 thousand kilometers in 2024. The figure is 26.1% more than in 2023. The significant growth reflects the increased demand for electricity products and the expansion of infrastructure projects in the country. The Central Federal District became the leader in production with a share of 55.8% of the total output. This is evidenced by data from a study by Alto Consulting Group, published in early October 2025.
The concentration of production in the Central Federal District emphasizes the key role of the region in the formation of the national market for power products. High logistic availability is provided for the largest industrial and construction projects in the country. The enterprises of the district have a developed transport infrastructure for the delivery of products to consumers. Proximity to the main markets reduces the costs of manufacturers.
Other federal counties contribute less to total output. Growth in volumes is observed in the Volga Federal District. The Southern Federal District is also showing an increase in power wire output. Gradual diversification of production indicates an expansion in the geography of supplies. The development of regional producers reduces the dependence of the market on one macroregion.
Average manufacturer prices for power wires and cords showed steady growth of 32.2% between 2022 and 2024. The cost increased from ₽55 242.6 per kilometer to ₽73 034.9 per kilometer. In July 2025, the average price increased by 8.1% compared to the previous month. The cost was ₽65 525.9 per kilometer. The dynamics reflect the intensification of demand and the trend towards market stabilization.
The increase in prices by 32.2% over the three-year period is explained by a combination of increased demand and inflationary factors. The rise in the cost of raw materials increased the cost of production. Copper is the main material for the production of wires. Copper prices on global markets showed volatility during the period under review. Plastics for insulation have also risen in price amid rising costs of petrochemical raw materials.[7]
The production of sockets and switches in Russia over the year increased by 5% and reached 82 million units
Russian manufacturers of sockets and switches increased production by 5% in 2024, bringing the total production volume to 82 million units against 78 million units in 2023, which was the result of active import substitution and modernization of domestic production facilities after the departure of Western companies from the Russian market. For the two-year period 2023-2024, the total growth was 6% compared to 2022, when the volume of production was at the level of 77 million units. This is evidenced by data from the BusinesStat study, published in September 2025.
According to analysts, the acceleration in the production of electrical products was caused by the state exchange rate for import substitution under conditions of sanction pressure. The departure of Western manufacturers from the Russian market created opportunities for expanding the presence of domestic companies in various segments of electrical equipment.
The dynamics of production over a five-year period demonstrates undulating changes. In 2020, the volume was 87 million units with a growth rate of 5%, which reflected the stable development of the industry before foreign economic restrictions.
2021 was characterized by a slight decline by 2% to 85 million units. The decline was due to a general slowdown in economic activity and a reduction in construction projects during a period of pandemic restrictions.
The most significant reduction occurred in 2022 - the fall was 10% to the minimum level of 77 million units for the analyzed period. The sharp decline reflected the industry's adaptation to new operating conditions and temporary difficulties with the supply of components.
From 2023, production began to recover with a growth rate of 2% to 78 million units. Positive dynamics testified to the stabilization of the situation and the beginning of the implementation of import substitution programs in the electrical industry.[8]

2023: Increase in imports of sockets and switches to Russia by 28% to 188.7 million units
In 2023, about 188.7 million sockets and switches were imported to Russia, which is 28% more compared to 2022. Such a sharp increase in foreign supplies is due to the lack of domestic products against the background of growing demand. The market situation is described in BusinesStat materials published on July 11, 2024.
It is said that in 2019, 155.8 million sockets and switches of foreign manufacturers were imported into the Russian Federation. In 2020, an increase of 5.8% was recorded - to 164.8 million units, and in 2021 imports increased by 7.8% with a final figure of 177.7 million units.
The steady positive dynamics was replaced by a decline in 2022: against the background of a worsening geopolitical situation, the import of foreign products into Russia decreased by 17.3%, reaching 147 million units. The fall in imports is explained by the difficulties of conducting foreign trade operations due to sanctions and the refusal of suppliers to work with Russian counterparties. Moreover, the largest decline was in imports from China. The fact is that the production sites of many Western companies that refused to work with Russian customers are located in the PRC. In addition, supplies from Germany fell significantly, while shipments from Spain and Portugal stopped almost completely. But already in 2023, the supply of sockets and switches from China resumed in full.
| According to BusinesStat estimates, the import of sockets and switches to Russia for 2021-2023. increased by 6% and reached 189 million units, - the authors of the report note. |

2022: Sales of sockets and switches in Russia decreased by 9% to 219 million units
Sales of sockets and switches in Russia in 2022 decreased by 9% compared to a year ago - up to 219 million units. Market size fell after at least four consecutive years of growth. Such data are provided in a study by BusinesStat, published in May 2023.
According to experts, in 2022, despite the record volume of housing commissioning, crisis changes in the country's economy and the tense foreign policy situation negatively affected the sales of most types of durable goods, including sockets and switches. Due to general uncertainty, many consumers have delayed repair work, including replacing electrical equipment, for a more favorable time. In addition, an increase in mortgage rates negatively affected the sale of sockets and switches, which led to a decrease in demand for housing in mortgages.
Analysts conditionally divide the sales of sockets and switches in Russia for renewal in existing real estate and installation in new construction projects. The electrical equipment is updated as it fails, or during repairs. The bulk of electrical sockets and switches are operated in the housing stock.
According to researchers, the reduction in the mortgage lending market, as well as the general wait-and-see position of consumers, will lead to a further decrease in sales of sockets and switches in Russia in 2023. Nevertheless, sales will be maintained at a high level due to the need to replace failed electrical equipment, stable financing of state-built facilities, as well as commissioning apartments pledged during the 2020-2021 mortgage boom[13]
