2024: Rigla bought the Nizhny Novgorod pharmacy chain

On August 9, 2024, it became known that the Rigla pharmacy chain, which is part of the Protek group of companies, completed a major acquisition of the Nizhny Novgorod Pharmacy Chain company, which owns 375 pharmacies under the well-known brands Farmani and Pharmacy. As a result, the Rigla chain has expanded its geographical presence in eight key regions of Russia, increasing the total number of pharmacy outlets to 4.7 thousand.

According to Kommersant, a significant part of the acquired pharmacies, namely 247, is located in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The remaining pharmacies are located in strategically important regions, such as Vladimirskaya, Kirov and Kaluga regions, as well as in the largest megacities of the country - Moscow and St. Petersburg, and in the Republic of Mari, the General Director of the Rigla network Boris Popov emphasized, that this acquisition will significantly strengthen the company's position in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where they intend to increase their market share to 18%, which will be an important step in the strategic development of the company.

Boris Popov also added that at the current stage, the company does not plan to rebrand the acquired pharmacies, which will continue to function under their usual brands. This transaction is a key element of Rigla's strategy to expand and strengthen its presence in various regions of Russia, which should help further grow and strengthen the company's competitive position at the national level.

According to the results of the first half of 2024, the Rigla network has already taken one of the leading positions in the retail commercial market of the Nizhny Novgorod region, reaching a share of 14.8%. Nizhny Novgorod Pharmacy Chain LLC, which was registered in Nizhny Novgorod and previously owned by Yuri Gaysinsky, is the main asset of the acquired company.[1]
