Launch of one of the largest data centers in the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg
At the end of May 2021, the official opening of the new Rostelecom data center in St. Petersburg took place. The company calls it one of the largest data centers in Russia.
The data center is located in the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg between Zhukov and Chugunnaya streets. The facility has a total capacity of 800 racks and a power of 7400 kW, covering an area of more than 4 thousand square meters. m
To create a data center, its own building was designed and built that meets the requirements of the Tier II standard. According to Rostelecom, a specialized engineering infrastructure provides high-quality energy and refrigeration supply to the data center premises. All elements of infrastructure systems are reserved, power inputs and telecommunication routes go through independent routes to ensure uninterrupted operation of equipment and communication with the network.
The data center will house the most sensitive data that requires a special security regime, as well as those that need to be quickly moved to another place, processed and returned back (or made a hot backup, like electronic document management systems). Backups in case of a system failure, as explained by the vice-governor of the city Stanislav Kazarin, will be located on external resources.
Rostelecom said that the new data center will form a cluster in the northwestern region, where Rostelecom-Data Rostelecom DPC will focus its competencies in the following areas: telecom, data transfer, cloud services and the operation of data centers. Around 50 highly skilled engineers are employed by the end of May 2021 and many new jobs will be created in the near future.
The new data center in St. Petersburg will expand the geodistributed network of Rostelecom data centers and become a reference platform in the North-West region, said Pavel Kaplunov, General Director of Rostelecom DPC.[1]
DataLine Cloud Launch
in DataLine Cloud St. Petersburg restarted at another site "" Rostelecom DPC at ul. Zhukova, d. 43. On the basis of this data center , four cloud services are located: DataLine virtual infrastructure,, VMware disaster recovery Managed and (Kubernetes as DBaaS database a service). DataLine announced this on February 9, 2021.
Initially, the DataLine cloud accessibility zone St. Petersburg in was organized on the basis of the leased site. With the cloud moving to this data center, the quality of services is fully provided by the combined team Rostelecom"-" and DPC DataLine, which are jointly responsible for operating the infrastructure according to uniform standards for the data center network throughout. Russia
Also, the data center is suitable for georeservation: reserve resources can be placed on the St. Petersburg site in case of accidents. Thanks to the network connectivity between data centers, customers can quickly switch to a replica in another city in the event of a disaster and continue to work.
The St. Petersburg Data Center was designed and launched in December 2020 according to the requirements of the Tier III standard. This gives customers the opportunity to build a fault-tolerant cloud. In the data center, you can place a virtual infrastructure in accordance with a single SLA with an availability guarantee of 99.982%.
2020: Data center launch
On December 8, 2020, Rostelecom DPC launched a data center with a total capacity of 800 racks and a capacity of 7400 kW. Four machine rooms will house 200 racks. The total area of the data center is 4,266 square meters. m This data center is located in the north of St. Petersburg at the address: st. Zhukova, d. 43.
The data center is designed and built according to the requirements of the Tier III standard. All elements of infrastructure systems are reserved, power inputs and telecommunication routes pass independent routes. This ensures uninterrupted operation of the data center during system maintenance.
| This data center in St. Petersburg will expand our geodistributed network of data centers and become a reference site in the northwest region. Future customers will have access to all the services that we offer in Moscow data centers, including the placement of server equipment, cloud infrastructure and services. For existing customers, we will be able to offer another site for organizing geographic redundancy and disaster recovery schemes. All services will be provided according to unified quality standards, regardless of the location of the data center, - said Pavel Kaplunov, General Director of Rostelecom DPC. |
The data center in St. Petersburg became the third site of Rostelecom DPC, commissioned in 2020. Earlier, two data centers in Moscow for 700 racks were launched.
Thus, the total capacity of the data center network for December 2020 is 12.2 thousand racks. In 2021, Rostelecom DPC will continue to develop the regional network of Tier III data centers and launch sites in Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg. The first stage of the Tier IV level data center will start working in Moscow.
