2022: Bentley Systems bought ADINA R&D

On April 7, 2022, Bentley Systems announced the acquisition of elemental analysis software developer ADINA R & D. Digital doubles will receive the benefits of modeling in the ADINA product to increase the stability of the infrastructure, the service is used in a wide variety of engineering areas, the press release said.

ADINA was founded in 1986 by Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Dr. Klaus-Jürgen Bath, known for his work in finite element analysis. ADINA's nonlinear modeling capabilities will become directly available in Bentley Systems products due to convenient technical and commercial integration.

The inclusion of ADINA and its creators is very interesting for all our engineering modeling teams, as well as for existing and new users. Dr. Bath literally wrote a book on the development of finite-element modeling, and the ADINA system is a benchmark for comparing all other disparate approaches to analysis. Now we will be able to extend nonlinear realism to all our proposals for modeling digital twins of infrastructure, said Raoul Karp, vice president of BentleySystems for engineering modeling.

As ADINA's nonlinear extensions are implemented in addition to existing physical modeling applications, as of April 2022, these are STAAD, RAM, SACS, MOSES, AutoPIPE, PLAXIS, LEAP, RM, LARS, SPIDA, and PLS. The scope of the basic modelling methods underlying the design of infrastructure sustainability will be significantly expanded by the end of 2022. The advantages of ADINA also include improved dynamics, 3D solid element, crumbling, substructuring, and improved engagement for critical connections as well as sections. Dr. Klaus-Jürgen Bate, will remain a technical advisor at ADINA R&D after the deal is completed.^[1]
