2020: Medtronic purchased Avenu Medical
At the end of September, 2020 Medtronic announced purchase of Avenu Medical company which developed a system for endovascular low-invasive creation of arteriovenozny fistulas (connection of an artery with a vein) at the patients with a terminal stage of a renal failure who are on dialysis. Financial and other terms of transaction are not disclosed.
Arteriovenozny fistulas create by connection of a vein and an artery in a hand, is normal using open surgical access. On the contrary, the system of vascular access Ellipsys from Avenu Medical represents the device which allows to enter a catheter chreskozhno into a hand for creation of a strong fistula with the minimum damages of surrounding fabrics. Thanks to such system the procedure can be carried out in out-patient department of hospital, in the center of out-patient surgery or in an office of the doctor.
In clinical trials the Ellipsys system provided good results, and fistulas created with its help saved stability within two years. Besides, Ellipsys allows to reduce duration of the procedure and potentially reduces costs. Unlike open surgery, the patient does not need suture after the procedure that reduces the probability of infectious complications and accelerates healing. The system of vascular access Ellipsys is already registered in the EU and the USA for creation of an anastomoz of a proximal beam artery and the perforating vein for the purpose of receiving an arteriovenozny fistula for dialysis.
The purchase of Medtronic company of Avenu company will directly be approved with our plan for implementation of low-invasive endovascular transactions, - the president and the chief executive officer of Avenu Medical Mark Ritchart noted. - Thanks to wide network of distributors of Medtronic we will be able to increase awareness of doctors on a new system and eventually we will provide distribution of this technology worldwide.[1] |
