History
2021: Goldman Sachs bought GreenSky $2.24 billion
In mid-September 2021, Goldman Sachs bought the fintech company GreenSky. The deal is estimated at $2.24 billion.
We have clearly stated our desire for Marcus to become the consumer banking platform of the future, and the acquisition of GreenSky contributes to this goal, "Goldman CEO David Solomon said in a press release. - GreenSky and his talented team have created an impressive cloud platform that will enable Marcus to reach a new and active group of sellers and customers. |
This step will allow Goldman Sachs to increase consumer financing, which opens up huge opportunities beyond the company's traditional area of investment banking, trade and capital management for the wealthy. Goldman Sachs began its retail banking business five years ago with its loan brand Marcus and has since implemented support for automated investment and personal finance, and has established partnerships with Apple, JetBlue and Amazon.
According to the bank, the deal with GreenSky will expand its client base and give it access to a fintech network of more than 10,000 merchants. Now the bank, which once served only heads of state, corporate executives and super-rich individuals, will provide loans to ordinary Americans.
The deal is expected to close by the first quarter of 2022. GreenSky CEO David Zalik will join Goldman Sachs as a partner.[1]
