Lomonosov Moscow State University - Faculty of political science

The tradition of teaching political sciences in MSU exists from the moment of foundation of the university in 1755: among the first 10 departments created according to M.V. Lomonosov's proposal there was a department of policy. The modern political science in MSU is taught since 1989. Training of political scientists department of political science of philosophical faculty performed about two decades. In 2008 the faculty of political science which task includes fundamental training of specialists on the basis of classical university traditions taking into account modern international experience and in combination with the innovation researches of practical policy was created. The faculty trains highly qualified specialists in the Political Science and Conflictology directions.

Since 2016. The Moscow university is included into TOP 100 of universities according to the British consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in the direction of preparation "Policy and the international relations".

Educational programs

Political science is distinctive feature of the educational program (EP) a combination classical university traditions and advanced educational technologies. In learning process students acquire fundamental knowledge in the field of history and the theory of policy, comparative political science, the Russian policy, state policy and management, psychology of policy, public policy and the international relations. Considerable attention is paid to communication training of students. On the basis of permanent interaction with employers the program gives a wide range of possibilities for receiving working experience and employment of graduates.

The Conflictology program effectively combines traditions of arts education in modern practical preparation. Main advantages of this program are:

• individual preparation in the field of settlement and permission of the political, economic, social conflicts;
• profound studying of the conflicts arising between corporations in the field of merge and absorption;
• holding trainings on effective communication;
• acquisition by listeners of practical experience of political commenting in media.

Considerable attention is paid to practical mastering the strategy of conflict behavior and ability to make decisions in the conditions of deficit of time, resources and the complete information on the events. Thus, at students the unique competences allowing to affect always in the conditions of the conflict advancing form.

Departments of faculty

Department of history and theory of policy (the manager — the doctor of historical sciences, professor A.Yu. Shutov). Department of history and theories of policy is a successor of department of the theoretical political science opened at the Moscow university in 1990. Introduction of a historical component to politological knowledge became the natural answer to requirements of time. Orientation of department to theoretical aspect in scientific researches means use not only the general teoretiko-methodological tools of political science, but also development of special politological concepts, methodical equipment of the empirical researches aimed at identification of trends and patterns of political dynamics and political process.

Department of history of socio-political exercises (the manager — the doctor of political sciences, professor A.A. Shirinyants). The modern tradition of teaching in MSU of history — at first socialist, and then socio-political exercises — contains more than 45 years. At department it is developed and the general course of history of socio-political exercises which on the volume, fundamental nature and the innovation character does not have analogs in the world is given. Within this rate — for the first time in the history of domestic education — along with history of foreign socio-political exercises history of socio-political exercises of Russia of the 11-20th centuries is taught students. The political textual criticism — the applied politological discipline designed to teach political scientists to ability to work with texts became the new direction in activity of department.

Department of the Russian policy (the manager — the Doctor of Philosophy, professor V.I. Kovalenko). The department of the Russian policy conducts the history since 1991. At department subject development of problems of national political history, modern Russian political process, a political regionalistika and ethnopolitical science is performed. The courses given by department allow to train the political scientist capable to work in bodies of authority and management, the analytical, expert and consulting centers of the country whose specialization is connected with problems of the Russian policy in its federal, regional and ethnopolitical measurements. The department has widely branched professional communications with large research centers of the country and the world.

Department of sociology and psychology of policy (the manager — the Doctor of Philosophy, professor E.B. Shestopal). Department it was created in 2000 on department of political science of philosophical faculty MSU. In 2008 the department was a part of again formed faculty of political science. Students of department are recruited in research projects of department. Works of students and graduate students are published in scientific magazines, monographs and collections of department. Perspective development of department is connected with such scientific directions and subjects as "An image of Russia in the country and in the world", "A human capital of political elite in Russia", "A problem of formation of national-state identity of modern Russian youth", "Political mentality in modern Russia".

Department of comparative political science (the manager — the doctor of political sciences, the academician of RAS Yu.S. Pivovarov). Comparative studying of political institutes and processes of the different countries, problems of world politics and international relations it is conducted at the Moscow university already many years. During reorganization (the end of the 1980th) there was a department of world political process, free from ideological restrictions. At the beginning of 2010 at faculty the department of comparative political science which integrated scientists with considerable experience of teaching and a research of comparative political science and political global studies was created.

Department of state policy (the manager — the doctor of political sciences V.I. Yakunin). For 2020 more than a decade specialization "State policy and management" develops at first within department of political science of philosophical faculty MSU, and at this time — within faculty of political science. Preparation on this specialization is steadily selected by many students political scientists. At department subject studying of a complete system of state policy of Russia, its industry directions is planned. Educational and scientific process at department covers also such directions as a political axiology, comparative studying of civilizations, political conflictology, economic policy, political management, electoral systems and electoral process.

Department of the international relations and integration processes (the manager — the Doctor of Economics L.E. Slutsky). At department prominent scientists-foreign affairs specialists teach, are developed and unique courses on the theory of the international relations and world politics are given. Special attention is paid to the praktiko-focused programs studying integration processes in Euroasian and other regions of the world and also different aspects of the international communication.
