At the same time, almost 10,000 of the hosting provider's own IP addresses were attacked. With the help of a special utility, any device could join the attack,, and computer server even. virtual hosting The cyber attack did not have a significant impact on client sites, all the company's services worked normally.

The DDoS attack was aimed at the main services of the company: cloud services Reg., cloud VPS, dedicated servers and virtual hosting. At some of the joints with operators and inside the infrastructure of the hosting provider, an increased level of incoming traffic bandwidth was observed, which caused periodic short-term losses before the main filtering system was turned on. Subsequently, individual filtering of illegitimate traffic was configured and launched on ports 3306, 5432, 27017. The level of filtering was gradually reduced, and filtering was completely disabled.

Despite the fact that there was some degradation of the network, only a small part of client sites could feel this. Contrary to the massive nature of this type of cyber attack, there was a small amount of malicious traffic per IP address, and there was no significant impact. It is more difficult for small hosting providers to fight off such attacks, since there may not be enough capacity at the entrance even after cleaning by external suppliers, the press service noted Рег.ру.

The Reg.ru is configured to automatically protect against DDoS attacks. The security system uses a series of hardware and software systems that sequentially analyze the passing traffic, detecting anomalies and non-standard network activity.

Claim against Reg.Ru Domeny khosting LLC for using a similar corporate name

On May 18, 2021 it became known that LLC Registrar of the Domain Names РЕГ.РУ filed a lawsuit against LLC РЕГ.РУ Domeny hosting. The parties challenge registration of the reduced signature name "РЕГ.РУ". LLC Registrar of the Domain Names РЕГ.РУ asks to forbid the defendant to use the trade name similar to extent of mixture to its trademarks, and demands compensation of 500 thousand rubles.

As Pavel Patrikeev, head of the legal department of the hosting provider and domain registrar of REG.RU, explained, that the defendant is a legal clone of a company that is part of the REG.RU of group of companies (cloning the specific name of the company to a comma and duplication of OKVED obviously indicates a fraudulent scheme).

File:Aquote1.png
'We identified him and first sent a claim asking him to stop the breach. But since the answer was not received, that is, the resolution of the issue in pre-trial order is impossible, we went to court. As a large brand, we defend our rights, including through judicial methods, "said Pavel Patrikeev. - The amount of compensation is calculated based on the nature of the violation, brand fame, judicial practice and the opportunities provided by law. "
File:Aquote2.png

According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, REG.RU Domains Hosting LLC was registered in March 2021. The authorized capital of the defendant is, according to GERUL, 50 thousand rubles.

File:Aquote1.png
"In the case under consideration, we are talking, firstly, about a direct violation of paragraph 3 of Article 1474 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, according to which it is not allowed for a legal entity to use a corporate name identical to or similar to the corporate name of another legal entity to a degree of confusion, if these legal entities carry out similar activities and the corporate name of the second legal entity was included in the unified state register of legal entities earlier than the corporate name of the first legal entity. The abbreviated names and type of main activity of both companies are completely artistic according to the information from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, namely REG.RU LLC and OKVED 62.01 Computer Software Development. It is surprising that the registration authority in principle allowed such registration. Therefore, the likelihood of banning the use of this name is very high, "said Alexandra Nechaeva, a lawyer at Rödl & Partner[2]"

Now users can register addresses for sites with characters,, Kazakh, Ukrainian Armenian Catalan,, and Greek Japanese dozens of other alphabets. Such addresses may be of interest to owners of local businesses, as well as creators of national cultural projects in various countries.

You can register domains with symbols of non-Latin national alphabets in 72 domain zones, each with its own set of characters available for registration, established by the rules. The largest set in.COM is more than 80 alphabets. Armenian, Georgian, Kazakh, Belarusian, Greek, Japanese and many others are available.

Restrictions on the number of characters in a unicode domain name correspond to the rules of each specific zone: for example, in.RU this is at least 2 and no more than 63 characters. Characters should be read in the punycode view. Registration conditions and prices of domains with symbols of national alphabets are the same as for addresses with Latin. Examples of possible domains for registration in different languages: խնդրում.com, მზე.com, すべての人の健康.store, और.net, дүкен123.com.

Opening the registration of internationalized domain names

The characteristic of each domain zone can be viewed in the REG.RU domain zone encyclopedia.

To register a domain, you must enter [1] the desired domain name in the lookup string. If it is free, select it and go to registration and payment for the service.

File:Aquote1.png
Domains with national symbols allow our clients, anywhere in the world, to register an address in a variety of languages. The solution is suitable for those who want to promote business in a certain country and emphasize its local affiliation, launch a cultural or non-profit project. As of April 2020, REG.RU serves more than 366 thousand IDN domains, most of which are Cyrillic. We are confident that this number will soon grow due to the increase in addresses in other languages,

In April 2016, Pavel Gross-Dneprov cited statistics on the number of domains for April and March 2016 for a number of Russian registrars. All of them received some positive number of new registrations. The exception is Ru-Center. This registrar owned by RBC lost more than 40,000 domains in March 2016, more than 6,000 more in 5 days of April (note: there are other registrars owned by RBC on the chart, they have normal growth, instead of a dramatic fall). Most of the March registrations fell on REG.RU - charts of the fall in Ru-Center, and the increase in the number of registrations in Reg.ru, in fact, "mirror" for each other.

2012

Ununiting with Masterhost

In March 2012, RBC daily reported that the merger of the hosting provider Masterhost and the registrar REG.RU suspended. The shareholders of Masterhost changed their minds about selling the business.

The fact that the domain name registrar REG.RU and the hosting provider Masterhost have not yet managed to complete the deal to merge these two assets was told by several top managers of large Russian telecom companies, and also confirmed the minority holder of Masterhost shares. The unification process was to begin in January 2012. And plans to restructure assets in Masterhost and REG.RU began to be prepared after the signing of the merger agreement in August 2011, RBC daily interlocutors say.

While the deal was being prepared, the ownership structure in the Activist company, which owns the majority stake in Masterhost, was also changing. One of the two main shareholders of Activist, Yevgeny Benevolensky, persuaded partner Leonid Filatov to sell his stake in the company. As a result of this transaction, Filatov received monetary compensation and shares of OpenStat (his share in this project was brought to 100%), RBC daily interlocutors report. Yevgeny Benevolensky, who gained control of Activist, and a group of minority shareholders of Masterhost decided to develop the project on their own, sources say.

However, the hosting provider's economic performance began to decline. This is evidenced by the closure of the St. Petersburg office of the company (all clients of the provider received the corresponding letter). The official statement of the company says that the office will stop working on April 1, 2012, and the support of St. Petersburg clients "will be fully carried out by employees of the main office in Moscow." The press service of the company explained the closure of the St. Petersburg representative office by its "economic inefficiency." According to one of the experts in the hosting services market, the share of the previously largest operator Masterhost in the market has now decreased to 6% in the segment.

Leonid Filatov said that he no longer has anything to do with Masterhost's business, does not occupy any posts in the company and is not aware of what is happening inside it at the moment. Masterhost could not answer the question about the thwarted deal.

The revenue of the combined company at the end of 2012, as expected, would exceed 1 billion rubles. Alexey Korolyuk was to become the general director of the new structure, and Leonid Filatov was to take up the strategic development of the company.

REG.RU at this time is the second largest domain registrar in Russia after Ru-Center. Co-owners of the company are Alexey Korolyuk (42%), Philip Gross (42%) and Valery Studennikov (16%). The financial performance was not disclosed. Masterhost was considered the largest hosting provider in Russia.

Accreditation of the international registrar to ICANN

In 2012, REG.RU received accreditation from the international registrar at ICANN and launched an English-language version of the site - REG.COM. According to the results of 2012, the number of domains for service in REG.RU reached 1,500,000.

In 2012, REG.RU became the first accredited registrar of the national top-level domain.RF. The.RF domain popularization program occupies a special place in the company's activities.

Preparing Association with Masterhost

On August 23, 2011, it became known that Masterhost and Reg.ru were preparing an announcement of the merger. The association is planned, confirmed the general director of Masterhost Leonid Filatov and Reg.ru Alexei Korolyuk, stressing: the shareholders will make the final decision in early September 2011[3]. If there is a deal, then cash-strapped, Korolyuk clarifies: both companies will enter the holding, in which shares will be distributed between their shareholders. As of August 2011, according to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, 45% of the shares of Masterhost CJSC belong to Filatov (through Activist CJSC), another 45% to Yevgeny Benevolsky. 42% of "Reg.ru" from Alexei Korolyuk and Philip Gross, 16% - from Valery Studennikov.

The goal is to create a large player who will take leading positions in the hosting markets, where the leader is Masterhost, and domain registration, where Reg.ru has a strong position, explains Korolyuk.

This is the second major market transaction in 2011. In March 2011, Hosting Community (part of RBC) announced the purchase of the largest domain registrar Ru-Center. The transaction amount is up to $35 million. Together, Masterhost and Reg.ru will occupy about 30% of the hosting and name registration market and will be able to compete on equal terms with Hosting Community, says the participant in the deal. This is the second largest player, agrees the commercial director of Hosting Community Aleksei Skvortsov: in the hosting market it will take 20%, and in Hosting Community 25%. Ru-Center's share in the domain registration market in the.ru zone at this time is 33%, and in the.rf zone - 43%, says Olga Alexandrova-Myasina, representative of the Coordination Center for the National Domain of the Internet; in "Reg.ru" - 18 and 22%, respectively.

On September 6, 2011, a press conference was held on the unification of companies.
