Performance indicators
2023: The turnover of the UserGate group of companies more than doubled and reached 7.9 billion rubles
The UserGate group of companies in early April 2024 reported on the financial results of its activities in 2023. The UserGate group includes two companies: LLC "Usergate," which is engaged in software development, and LLC "Katun Electronics," specializing in the field of microelectronics.
The software brought the company "Usergate"[1] last year 6.2 billion rubles, which is 120.2% more than a year earlier. At the same time, the cost amounted to only 451.3 million rubles. According to this indicator, the company showed an increase of 389.1%, however, compared to the turnover, this figure is still quite low, which is typical for software manufacturers. As a result, the company's net profit amounted to almost 2.7 billion rubles, which is 2164.1% higher than a year earlier.
At the same time, the turnover of Katun Electronics[2] are more modest: 1.7 billion rubles at a cost of 923.5 million rubles. The growth of both indicators is 94% and 204.2%, respectively. This alignment is typical for manufacturers of hardware products, where the cost of production is quite high and is growing at a faster pace. As a result, net profit was at the level of 652.5 million rubles and with an increase of 34.2% compared to last year.
Thus, the total turnover of the two companies amounted to 7.9 billion rubles against 3.7 billion rubles a year earlier, i.e. increased by 113.5% - a little more than twice.
At the same time, the cost of research and development results at Usergate more than doubled (more precisely by 130.3%) to 392.3 million rubles, while at Katun Electronics it decreased by 80% to 30 thousand rubles. At the same time, Yuzergate slightly reduced its payables to 829.4 million rubles (a decrease of 4.7%), but Katun Electronics also reduced its debts: it fully returned the loan of 40 thousand rubles, which was listed on the balance sheet, and reduced payables to 56.7 million rubles - a reduction of 78.9%.

TAdviser interview with Development Manager Ivan Chernov
Now NGFW has become one of the most promising areas for Russian developers of protective equipment, but this has not always been the case. From the very beginning, UserGate started developing NGFW, and for a long time it had to compete only with foreign manufacturers. Nevertheless, the company has worked out its product and is now actually the leader of this segment in Russia. Its understanding is as close as possible to the Gartner concept, so it is most valuable to find out the opinion of its specialists. Ivan Chernov, UserGate Development Manager, agreed to answer TAdviser's questions. Read more here.
UserGate announced the entry into the information security services market
On April 25, 2024, as part of the annual conference, UserGate announced that it was diversifying its business and launching the direction of information security services. The company sees itself as a security and protection provider, and not just a vendor of information security products.
First of all, we are talking about the provision of SOC (Security Operations Center, literally - security operations center) services. They should become available to customers in May, said Dmitry Kuzevanov, head of the UserGate monitoring and response center, answering questions from TAdviser, CISO. And during the year, security audit services will also be launched - we are talking about finding flaws, finding vulnerabilities or intruders in the customer's infrastructure. In addition, cyber crime services will appear - investigation of incidents and identification of their causes, consulting services, etc.
DuringThe company expects that in the future three years services will occupy about 20% of the total structure of its revenue, said TAdviser Mikhail Penkovsky, vice president of sales and marketing at UserGate. In 2023, according to the Federal Tax Service, UserGate's total revenue amounted to about 6.2 billion rubles, an increase of 120% and, according to Mikhail Penkovsky, the company has rather aggressive growth plans for the next three years.
Among the prerequisites for the launch of security services is the shortage of IB-personnel on the market. In these conditions, for many customers, buying services from a provider can be an outlet. In UserGate itself, information security specialists are in sufficient numbers and with extensive experience, the company says. In addition, it is important for some customers to minimize the list of suppliers, it is more convenient for them. And if there is a request for this, then UserGate is ready to satisfy it.
For several years now, information security service providers, including SOC, have been on the market. Among the key commercial SOC centers are Solar JSOC, BI.Zone SOC, IZ: SOC, Angara SOC, JET CSIRT, CyberART, MTS SOC, Infosecurity ISOC, SOC "Perspective Monitoring." A year ago, an Information Informzaschita study of the Russian SOC market recorded a 25% increase in demand for SOC services in the first quarter. And according to the results of all 2023, experts predicted a possible growth of this segment to 70%.
UserGate has so far avoided forecasts of what share of the total "pie" they expect to bite in the future of the next few years, but note that "the market is large, it will be enough for everyone."
One of the competitive differences between his SOC services, in particular, Dmitry Kuzevanov, in a conversation with TAdviser, called the presence of a team in UserGate that has experience in building a very large SOC - 600 nodes per 2 or 3 data centers with a total amount of information of 8 PB. Not every competitor has such experience, he noted. This team moved to UserGate from another company.
The team also has specialists who have been developing their own UserGate products and have been training the immunity of these products for a long time. They help SOC specialists detect attacks and find out vulnerabilities. The synergy of these two types of experts in UserGate is also considered one of their competitive differences.
The company expects that the main consumers of its information security services will be SMB companies and medium-sized businesses close to large ones. And the largest of the largest companies most often build their own data centers and SOCs.
The technological basis for the provision of SOC services is both third-party, mainly open source solutions and its own developments - approximately 50/50, Dmitry Kuzevanov said, answering TAdviser questions. This includes the UserGate SIEM Light product. From the point of view of technology strategy, there is a priority here: as soon as it is possible to use only its products for SOC, the company will do it. SOC services will be provided from UserGate's own infrastructure sites located in Novosibirsk and Moscow.
Along with the new business, UserGate continues to develop its main direction - software and hardware information protection tools. UserGate co-founder Alexander Levchenko noted at the conference that the company is creating an ecosystem of products, and in its current form, according to him, the line covers all customer segments - both SMB and large business. At the same time, UserGate is gradually abandoning third-party hardware platforms in its solutions, transferring them to devices of its own design.
As part of the development of the product ecosystem, UserGate on April 25 presented not only an update to the main line, but also showed a prototype of a new product in its portfolio - a security switch of its own design: "We began to create our own switches," said Alexander Levchenko.
2023
License for technical protection of confidential information
At the end of 2023, UserGate received a license for the technical protection of confidential information for the following types of work and services:

- information security monitoring services for informatization tools and systems.
Key Announcements at the Annual UserGate Conference
For 20 years, UserGate has gone from a small company with one product to creating a technology ecosystem centered on its own next-generation UserGate NGFW (Next Generation Firewall) firewall. In 2022, UserGate, like other players in the Russian IT market, faced new challenges. Against this background, the company intensified efforts to localize its products, including the development of its own hardware platforms, and also aimed at abandoning proprietary processor architectures in them. How these processes are progressing and the main innovations of the product line were discussed at the IV annual UserGate conference. Read more here.
Obtaining the certificate of FSTEC of Russia of type "D" of the fourth protection class
On January 13, 2023, UserGate announced that it had passed the procedure for confirming compliance with the protection profile of type "D" firewalls of the fourth class of protection of the FSTEC of Russia (IT.ME.G4.PZ). The WAF module as part of the next generation firewall (UserGate NGFW) will be available to customers in subsequent releases.
UserGate continues to refine and improve products included in the unified UserGate SUMMA ecosystem, regularly conducting inspection procedures and expanding the functionality of its components to meet global information security standards . Certification of the UserGate line of solutions parallels the development of the ecosystem, which covers not only standard corporate networks, for example, APCS, for which we have already received a "D" security profile, but also a large number of end devices. We protect networks with tens of thousands of computers and devices designed for remote work, so obtaining a G profile was a logical continuation of our efforts, "said Dmitry Kurashev, director and co-founder of UserGate . |
Firewalls of type "D" are used on servers serving sites and web applications, including at the physical border of server segments. UserGate is in the process of obtaining the fifth, last security profile of the Russian FSTEC certificate - type "B."
2022
Revenue increased 3 times and reached 2.8 billion rubles
The Russian manufacturer of software and hardware systems for ensuring information security UserGate almost tripled its revenue in 2022, bringing it to 2.823 billion rubles. A year earlier, this figure was 982 million rubles. Such figures are disclosed in the company's reports published in the KonturFokus service.
At the same time, expenses on ordinary activities (related to the manufacture and sale of products, the purchase and sale of goods) also increased - from 841 million to 2.73 billion rubles. As a result, the company's net profit decreased from 166 to 119 million rubles.
The total revenue of Yuzergate LLC and Katun Electronics LLC at the end of 2022 increased by 261.9% - to 3.723 billion rubles. The indicator includes revenue from the financial statements for 2021-2022. Excluding VAT. In the ranking "TAdviser100: The largest IT companies in Russia 2023," such an indicator allowed the company to take 119 lines (19th line of the list of applicants for inclusion in the number of the largest IT companies in Russia).
UserGate produces systems to protect computer networks, data centers and other infrastructure from all kinds of Internet threats, illegal entry, targeted attacks, violations of corporate policies.
The company's development center is located in the Technopark of Akademgorodok Novosibirsk, the front office is located in Moscow. UserGate also has representative offices in St. Petersburg and Khabarovsk.
In November 2022 , in an interview with TAdviser , UserGate Development Manager Ivan Chernov talked about a noticeable increase in demand for older models from the equipment line, namely, high-performance PACS for large-scale and geographically distributed networks and complex tasks - for example, UserGate NGFW F8000. This happened, according to Chernov, because the issue of migration from import solutions to domestic ones, first of all, concerned large businesses, which were most affected by the departure of Western manufacturers.
Potential clients from the mid-sized business segment, who took a wait-and-see attitude a few months ago, realized its futility and switched to action, Chernov also noted. This was noticeable in the growth in demand for hardware and software complexes of lower performance - for example, the UserGate NGFW D200, D500 models.
In 2022, according to Chernov, UserGate implemented more than 2.5 thousand projects in the NGFW segment. "Their unit cost is also growing greatly - customers who are convinced of our effectiveness are adding more and more new tasks," he added. "The number of workstations protected by UserGate today is already in the millions, which is a very significant part of the entire fleet of corporate PCs in Russia."

Opening a sales and development office in St. Petersburg
On September 7, 2022, UserGate announced the opening of a sales and development office in St. Petersburg. This is the fourth UserGate point on the country map, along with the development center in Novosibirsk, the front office in Moscow and the representative office in Khabarovsk.
The expansion of geography primarily suggests that UserGate continues to actively master the Russian information security market and seeks to strengthen its position in the northern capital.
"We have long seen the need to have a permanent office in the north-west region. St. Petersburg is a major economic and scientific and technical center. Many talented developers work here, there are well-known universities that train specialists for the industry, many of our partners, integrators and large customers of our solutions are located. We are territorially becoming closer to them and are ready to provide support and deep expertise in the field of information security at all levels, "Dmitry Kurashev, co-founder and director of UserGate, commented on the event. - In addition, St. Petersburg is one of the leading personnel centers. As TAdviser explained in UserGate, the rapid growth of the business began in 2017, when a flagship product was launched on the market - a system for protecting corporate networks of large and medium-sized businesses UserGate UTM. Partnership agreements were signed with the system integrator "SysSoft," service IT distributor Axoft, UserGate solutions began to use in projects a large domestic integrator "I-Teco." In 2021, the company announced the UserGate SUMMA information security ecosystem.
Over the years, we have implemented thousands of projects, gained invaluable experience, faced with a huge number of non-standard situations in customer networks. This, apparently, led to an increase in confidence in us, the arrival of new users and the expansion of the scope of our development among existing customers. We work through a network of integrators who provide interaction with customers. Over the years, there have been many large information security projects with up to 25 thousand users. There were projects covering a wide branch structure with up to 1000 units, - told TAdviser in the press service of UserGate. |

The company's products are delivered to customers from the UK, Germany, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America.
In January 2021, UserGate registered Katun Electronics, which specializes in equipment development. As noted in the press service of the company, the production of UserGate works according to the fabless model. The Novosibirsk team "Katun Electronics" develops "iron," and then places orders for manufacture at existing production facilities. For example, new UserGate hardware platforms are S150 available in contract production in St. Petersburg.
According to UserGate, due to the sanctions of many Russian IT consumers, a difficult restructuring of the entire infrastructure awaits in 2022-2023, this in turn will stimulate the development of the domestic development market.

According to information for April 2019, in addition to the UserGate development office (formerly Entensys) in the Science Center Novosibirsk - Akademgorodok, the company's offices were also located To Moscow Leipzig in and (). Germany
2018: Move to a single UserGate brand
On September 28, 2018, Entensys announced the transition to the use of a single UserGate brand (LLC "Usergate").
For a long time, the company operated under the Entensys brand. Since 2011, he has been developing the UserGate platform, which is based on the supported UG OS operating system. The company also developed and adapted a whole line of hardware solutions for this platform. As of September 2018, the functionality and demand of the platform began to significantly exceed what we had with the old product line. As a result, Entensys decided to fully concentrate on the next generation of solutions and not engage in further development of the old ones.
With a single UserGate platform at the heart of all the solutions we offered, we decided that it would be right and logical to use the UserGate trademark and as a company name. We consider the UserGate brand to be sonorous, organically related to the information security theme. In this regard, we, UserGate, will continue to use this brand as the only main one. For our Internet resources, usergate.com domains, usergate.ru and other national domains will be used. The legal name of the company is LLC "Usergate" or UserGate Ltd. |
The company also drew attention to the fact that the platform is now called UserGate, and not UserGate UTM or UserGate Web Filter, as before. The functionality of the UTM and/or Web Filter class is now only an integral part of it, specified in Usergate.
2017: Partnership with Axoft
Axoft, a service IT distributor in Russia and the CIS, and Entensys, a Russian developer of information protection tools, have agreed on a long-term partnership, under which they will jointly promote the new UserGate UTM solution, a system for protecting corporate networks of large and medium-sized businesses. In addition to UserGate UTM, Axoft partners will be able to sell other products in Russia and the CIS: UserGate Web Filter, UserGate Proxy & Firewall, as well as UserGate Mail Server and UserGate Mail Security.
2014: Bringing products in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Education
The functionality of the products UserGate Web Filter and KinderGate Parental Control is brought in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Education.
"Methodological recommendations on restricting in educational organizations the access of students to types of information disseminated through the Internet, harmful to the health and (or) development of children, as well as not corresponding to the tasks of education" were also agreed by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation and the Provisional Commission of the Federation Council for the Development of the Information Society.
The main objective of this document is to develop general requirements and standards for content filtering systems used in educational institutions and bring these requirements in line with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
Entensys solutions are already used in more than 12 thousand schools and other educational institutions of the Russian Federation. Therefore, support for the new recommendations of the Ministry of Education is needed both for existing users and for new ones switching from other products to using Entensys solutions. After the approval of these recommendations, the company carried out some work to ensure compliance with these requirements, while the following improvements were implemented:
- Bringing the standard filtering settings in line with the "List of types of information disseminated through the Internet, causing harm to the health and (or) development of children, as well as not corresponding to the tasks of education."
- Ensuring the possibility of working with the planned Register of Non-Educational Resources (NSAR), which is planned to appear soon.
- Implementation of all possible connection methods of the Content Filtering System described in the Recommendations.
- Implementation of the "Technical Requirements for GFR" (Appendix No. 3), including regarding the supported speed, architecture, statistics, etc.
As a result of this work, on the eve of the beginning of the new school year, the UserGate Web Filter and KinderGate Parental Control solutions meet the requirements for content filtering systems.
2011: First quarter sales growth of 152%
Sales of the company in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same period last year increased by 152%, that is, more than two and a half times. The flagship product UserGate Proxy & Firewall is used by 25,000 companies, occupying one of the leading positions in the category of means for ensuring control and security of Internet access.
The expansion of the Entensys product line led to a significant increase in the average size of the transaction. The contribution from sales of updated modules and licenses increased from 10 to 32%. The segment of home users, which the company entered only in the summer of 2010 with the KinderGate Parental Control product, brought Entensys one tenth of total revenue in this reporting period. A significant share of sales began to be certified by FSTEC versions.
It is worth noting the confident steps of Entensys in the direction of the foreign market. Foreign sales increased 5.77 times compared to Q1 2010. This is largely due to the opening of the company's German office.
The main achievements and prospects of Entensys:
- Partners. The Entensys partner network has more than 4,000 companies located in more than 70 countries of the world and continues to develop actively. Currently, the company enters the market of Poland and other countries of Eastern Europe. The company plans to continue the active development of sales in Germany and other representatives of the European Union, as well as in Japan.
- Products. The Entensys product line currently includes 5 software solutions: UserGate Proxy & Firewall, UserGate Mail Server, Gatewall DNS Filter, Gatewall Antispam, KinderGate Parental Controls and the AquaUserGate software and hardware complex. During the year, active work was carried out to improve each of the products, as evidenced by the periodic releases of new versions. Recent releases of UserGate Mail Server 2.0 and Gatewall Antispam 2.0 should be noted. Entensys continues to develop its technologies and plans to further develop current software products and release new solutions.
- Protection in the "clouds." Entensys plans to launch its cloud-based Internet access control and email filtering solutions. When working in this direction, support for Amazon and Parallels packaging standards will be implemented.
