Smart PlateReader is a sensing technology of car numbers for mobile platforms.

Smart PlateReader belongs to the class of the solutions ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) and allows to distinguish in number video flow on the moving and parked cars in real time.

High speed and quality of recognition are provided by the neural networks used in Smart PlateReader. Deep algorithmic optimization under mobile platforms allows to execute all calculations on the smartphone or the tablet in real time.

Recognition

Process of recognition is implemented in a video flow. The minimum supported resolution of the camera is 640*480 pixels. Smart PlateReader processes the sequence of images of a video series and performs interframe integration of results of recognition of the separate personnel. When a system is sure of result, recognition process automatically stops.

Smart PlateReader is able to find and distinguish car numbers in cases when number on video has the uneven background caused by pollution, flares or drawings. It is possible to recognize numbers in twilight, night time and difficult weather conditions (a rain, snow). A system is steady against projective distortions, the slope angle of observed number in relation to the direction of shooting can reach 75 degrees.

Recognition time from the beginning of demonstration of a car number before obtaining result is 1-2 seconds even on budget mobile devices with a low performance.

Security

Smart PlateReader uses only RAM of the device, does not create copies and does not transfer data to processing on the Internet to a cloud or on the selected external server.

Scope

Smart PlateReader is useful to insurance companies, social and state services of fixing of abuses of regulations of the parking and other traffic regulations, to the organizations of car-sharing, etc.

2017: Release

On October 3, 2017 the Russian company Smart Engines provided a sensing technology of car numbers for the mobile platforms Smart PlateReader. With its help in iOS/Android-applications it is possible to recognize "on the fly" numbers, cars which are in a lens of the camera.

To recognize number of the car, the user does not need "to aim", set area for recognition or to show number under a certain corner. Smart PlateReader allows to find and recognize one or several numbers of cars on images on which the sizes of all characters have height at least of 10 pixels, specified in Smart Engines.

We considered the main requirement when developing Smart PlateReader an opportunity to quickly recognize number of the car on video when the person can read it. At the same time possibilities of the solution should be equally available regardless of the capacity of the mobile device of the user and the camera used in it — Vladimir Arlazarov, the CEO of Smart Engines noted.

As of October, 2017 Smart PlateReader supports recognition of the Russian car numbers and is available in the form of SDK with examples of integration to iOS and Android.
