2020: Announcement
On March 4, 2020 provided to General Motors new accumulators which, according to the producer, are capable to make electric vehicles mass.
Batteries under the name Ultium will provide to electric cars a course stock to 650 km and will allow them to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 3 seconds. In addition, GM expects that thanks to Ultium the cost of accumulators will fall lower than $¬éÔ. þ 100.
Construction of batteries allows to provide capacity from 50 to 200 kWh, and charging is possible at a power up to 200 Watts. The platform for trucks and commercial cars supports charging at 800 V and at a power up to 350 Watts.
Cobalt amount in accumulators is reduced approximately by 70% in comparison with the competing solutions — instead of this metal cheaper aluminum is applied. Experts believe that it will allow to reduce the cost of rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles approximately by 45%.
New development already found application in the pilotless electric vehicle Cruise Origin which was provided in January, 2020. During the 2020th Hummer Cadillac Lyriq and GMC electrical machines which will work for Ultium intend to release the American producer.
The basis of all future vehicles of GM will be formed by new modular architecture. The platform for electric vehicles of third generation of GM is held for use in the big range of models - from available cars to pickups, from premium class models to sports electric cars. Rechargeable batteries in this platform are installed under passenger salon for providing lower center of gravity that improves general management and allows to add more space in salon.
After the announcement of Ultium and publication of plans for release of 20 models of electric vehicles by 2023 stocks of GM grew in price for 2.2%.[1]
