2019: Demonstration of the electrobus

At the beginning of March, 2019 provided Volvo as the company approves, the first-ever full-size pilotless electrobus. The model under the name Volvo 7900 is developed together with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

The new vehicle 12 m long and with a course stock about 25 km is expected transportation up to 80 passengers. Quantity of seats — 36. Accumulator blocks are recharged in 3-6 minutes thanks to the system  of the 300 kW fast charging from ABB company so the bus can be loaded at the end of a route with the minimum downtime. Affirms that Volvo 7900 consumes 80% less energy in comparison with the diesel bus of the same size.

Volvo 7900 is equipped with the GPS receiver and sensors allowing to receive and process information on remote objects by means of optical systems and also special cameras which broadcast the three-dimensional image of neighborhoods.

By the time of demonstration of innovation it passes tests in the presence of the driver and also the operator who is behind his back.  The authorities of Singapore are expected commercial use of this electric bus, since 2022.

The president of NTU Subra Suresh at a press conference reported that he will pass test of the self-driving bus at first in a university campus and in the territory of vehicle fleet of SMRT company (manages public transport in Singapore), and after receiving approval of regulating authorities of testing will be transferred to public roads.
