2024

Production of the first Russian color MFP launched

In mid-June 2024, it became known that the Fplus holding organized the production of the first Russian color MFPs. The production of devices that combine the functionality of a printer, scanner and copying machine has been established at the company's own plant in Valishchevo near Moscow. Read more here.

The production of the first MFPs on domestic motherboards has been launched in Russia

In mid-April 2024, Katyusha announced the start of mass production of printers and MFPs built on proprietary system printed circuit boards. Read more here.

2022

Sales of printers and MFPs rolled back to the level of the early 2000s

The volume of the Russian printing equipment market in 2022 amounted to 1.34 million units, having decreased by 38% compared to 2021. This is evidenced by the data that ITResearch analysts released on March 6, 2023.

For the printer and desktop MFP market, the past [2022] year turned out to be the most disastrous in terms of the number of devices sold... it can only be compared with the indicators of the early 2000s, when this market was in the process of formation, the researchers note.

Printing Technology Market Size Down 38%

According to them, 2022 in a sense can be called the period of reorganization of the printing device market, which is caused (as in many other segments of the Russian IT market) not by internal, but by external reasons. And the main one was a significant reduction in product supply, not demand, as is usually the case with a decline in sales. The range has decreased due to the departure of large foreign manufacturers from the Russian market.

As stated in the study, printing devices, like products in some other segments of the IT market, were almost completely imported in 2022, so supply shortages began to accumulate quite quickly. In these conditions, domestic companies, primarily the distribution team, had to urgently look for new suppliers, resort to parallel imports and establish logistics. At the same time, the prospects of Russian manufacturers of printing devices became more favorable (primarily in terms of demand).

Previously, printing devices were almost completely supplied by import

In identified three main changes in the Russian market of printing devices in 2022:

  • increased dominance of laser devices;
  • a marked shift in the sales structure of laser devices in favor of less productive models;
  • radical redistribution of market positions of "old" vendors and the emergence of new brands. The latter determined changes in the market structure.

Throughout 2022, the Chinese manufacturer of laser printers and MFP Pantum increased sales on the Russian market of printing devices, whose market share in the last quarter exceeded 60% in both categories, and according to the results of the whole 2022, the products of this vendor occupied about half of all devices sold. At the same time, the Pantum line contains models of the lower and middle performance levels (up to 40 pages/min). The laser segment also includes products of a number of new brands that appeared on the market in 2022: Avision, Deli, Huawei and Sindoh, as well as Russian manufacturers F + Imaging and Katyusha.

As a result of the sale of laser devices, after reaching a low in the second quarter, began to grow noticeably and by the end of the year the share of the laser segment increased to 90% from 75% at the end of 2021. In total, 1.13 million laser printers and desktop MFPs were sold in 2022, and in their structure, the share of devices with a capacity of up to 30 pp/min increased to 70% (from 55% at the end of 2021).

The second and third places among vendors in the laser segment were taken by HP and Kyocera products. In the segment of inkjet printing equipment, at the end of 2022, about 207 thousand printers and MFPs were sold, which is almost 65% less than a year ago. The product proposal that was reduced after the vendors left has not yet been able to replenish with new brands, and in the face of an increase in the deficit, prices for inkjets increased even more than for laser models, experts note ITResearch.[1]

Chinese company leads Russian printer market for the first time

According to the results of the third quarter of 2022, the volume of the Russian market for printing devices amounted to almost 300 thousand units, which corresponds to a "double-digit" drop relative to the same period in 2021. The Chinese company first took the lead, according to data from ITResearch analysts, which were released in mid-November 2022.

According to experts' calculations, by the end of the third quarter of 2022 the Chinese Pantum , 53% of the supply of printing devices accounted for against 21% of the nearest pursuer - the AmericanHP Inc. They are next located, and with Epson Canon Brother shares of about 4-5%. At the same time, at the end of 2021, she was the HP market leader with a share of 36%, Pantum had 16%, Canon and another Japanese vendor - Kyocera 10% each, Brother - 9%, notes. RBC

Many Western brands left Russia, for example, HP suspended the supply of products to Russia. ITResearch notes Taiwan's Avision among new suppliers to the country. Experts also call the Chinese Deli Group. Sources of the publication say that printers of the South Korean brand Sindoh began to be supplied to Russia. In addition, deliveries are increased by Russian manufacturers F + imaging and Katyusha, which are going to replace HP and Canon with Russians.

According to ITResearch estimates, in the first three months of 2022, the Russian printing equipment market sank by almost a quarter in terms of the number of devices sold, but its volume in money increased slightly due to rising prices. In the second quarter, the decline was 45% due to the growing food deficit, problems with logistics and currency volatility. In total, in the first half of 2022, 613 thousand printers and desktop multifunctional devices (MFPs) were sold in Russia, which is 36% less than a year earlier.[2]

2021: The Russian market for printing devices sank by 14.4%

In 2021, 2.3 million printing devices entered the Russian market, which is 14.4% less than a year earlier. In money, equipment sales decreased by 8.1%, to $610 million. Such data analysts IDC released on March 2, 2022.

At the end of 2021, manufacturers shipped about 1.64 million laser printing equipment to the Russian Federation, including 1 million multifunctional devices (MFPs). In the jet equipment segment, annual sales exceeded 662 thousand units, including 560 thousand units of MFPs.

In 2021, 2.3 million printing devices entered the Russian market, which is 14.4% less than a year earlier

According to IDC, the fourth-quarter supply decline was shown by inkjet devices in all speed categories except for the 21-30 ppm category, which showed double-digit growth. The average cost of printers, copiers and MFPs on the Russian market increased by 13.6%.

File:Aquote1.png
Throughout 2021, problems with the availability of products continued to be key for almost all manufacturers of printing equipment. The ongoing pandemic and, as a result, interruptions in work and restrictions on the production capacity of assembly factories and factories producing components for the production of printing devices, located mainly in Southeast Asia, caused a significant shortage of products, especially in the second half of 2021, - said IDC Russia & CISC Research Manager Konstantin Makarenkov.
File:Aquote2.png

According to him, a significant lag in production and logistics from demand does not make it possible to analyze in detail the structure and dynamics of consumer demand for printing devices in 2021. A significant improvement in this situation is not possible at least the next two calendar quarters, said Makarenkov, whose words are quoted by the IDC press service in early March 2022.

2020

Sales of printers and MFPs increased by 7.5%, to 2.5 million units - ITResearch

2020 was the most successful year for the Russian printing equipment market in recent years. Sales of printers and MFPs in physical terms increased by 7.5% (to 2.5 million units), and in money the growth was 4.7% (to $566 million). This is evidenced by the data of the analytical company ITResearch, which were released in July 2021.

Researchers noted a high demand for laser printing equipment - its implementation in Russia at the end of 2020 increased by 11.1%, and the segment of inkjet products sank by 1% compared to 2019.

Printers became one of the key sales drivers in the laser segment, while printers showed negative dynamics in the inkjet category, and a relatively small increase in multifunctional devices (about 1.5%) could not compensate for the losses of the former. In addition to shifting demand in favor of laser devices, the market structure changed markedly in its individual categories.

Sales of printers and MFPs by the end of 2020 increased by 7.5%, to 2.5 million units

In the laser segment, which amounted to 1.82 million units, along with an increase in sales of entry-level models, the growth of monochrome models with a performance of 31-40 ppm also accelerated, especially noticeable in the category of printers. Despite the higher price (an average of about $100, although for the most popular models it was less), devices in this high-speed category are more economical in terms of printing costs and quite compact, without taking up much space on the desktop. In the total volume of the laser segment, they occupied about a third.

At the same time, in 2020, sales of high-performance office models almost stopped (over 40 pp/min), and in the category of color devices, multifunctional devices as a whole identified positive dynamics, compensating for the drop in demand for color printers.

In the jet segment, the shift in demand in favor of lower-price models was more noticeable, especially in the MFP category, where the share of devices worth less than $100 came close to 50%. And the general decline in sales of "jet" was due to a decline in senior price categories, primarily printers. As in the previous year, the most popular category among users was cartridge-free inkjet models, which accounted for over half of all devices sold. Different from previous years, the demand driver manifested itself in a change in the structure of sales by technology segments. So, instead of the usual growth in demand for jet devices at the end of the year, the results of the fourth quarter showed a significant drop in it. In total, inkjet printers and MFPs were sold during this period a little more than 198 thousand units, which is 21% less than at the end of 2019.

In 2020, sales growth of high-performance office models almost stopped

In general, in the printer and desktop MFP market, the most sold products of the companies, and Canon. HP Pantum The shares of these producers are not indicated.

As in some other segments of the IT market, the main factor in growth this year was a change in the nature of users' work in a pandemic. As noted in the ITResearch study, many analysts noted a decrease in the global volume of office printing, which was not compensated by the growth of printing by remote users working at home. However, the emerging need for printing in home offices was enough to stimulate sales of printers and desktop MFPs. Since spring, marked by the first wave of the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, the market has grown almost continuously, smoothing out even the seasonal decline in demand in the summer. If at the end of 2019 it was difficult to say with confidence whether the market stagnated or there were signs of its decline, then in 2020 sales increased significantly, analysts say. "[3]

Supply decline of 5.3% in pieces and 4.1% in money

The volume of Russian printing devices in 2020 amounted to 2.69 million units, having decreased by 5.3% compared to 2019. In the money, sales of printers and MFPs decreased by 4.1% and amounted to $664 million. This is evidenced by the data of the analytical company IDC.

In the segment of laser printing equipment, deliveries in 2020 reached 1.9 million units, including 1.25 million MFPs. The sale of jet products amounted to slightly less than 780 thousand units, of which more than 657 thousand devices accounted for MFPs.

The volume of Russian printing devices in 2020 amounted to 2.69 million units, down 5.3% compared to 2019

The worst of all was in the inkjet market, where sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 fell by 15.5% in pieces and 25.1% in money. The reduction in deliveries was shown by inkjet devices in all high-speed categories, with the exception of devices with a capacity of 11-20 ppm.

File:Aquote1.png
In the second half of 2020, the availability of products by vendors continued to be affected by the insufficient availability of factory production capacity and/or the reduction of workers in factories in Asia due to the COVID-19 epidemic, additional problems with product availability were caused by a global shortage of shipping containers for transportation. which was the reason for a significant excess of demand over supply, and a drop in supply indicators, - said the leading analyst of IDC Russia & CIS Konstantin Makarenkov, whose words are quoted by the press service of the research company.
File:Aquote2.png

He noted that Russia experienced the peak of the pandemic in 2020 without significant long periods of lockdown and closure of production and service sectors, as happened in Europe and other regions. The IDC believes that the return of workers to offices will continue in 2021, and it will be even more significant in 2022. This will certainly have a positive effect on the volume of printing in the office and the purchase of printing devices and consumables, Makarenkov added.

2019:1% drop in deliveries to 2.56 million units, 7.7% increase in revenue to $696 million - IDC

In 2019, 2.56 million printers, copiers and MFPs were sold in Russia in the amount of $696 million. In pieces, the market volume decreased by 1%, and in money it added 7.7% due to an increase in the supply of more expensive equipment. This is evidenced by data from IDC analysts.

According to their estimates, the supply of laser printing equipment in 2019 reached 1.75 million units, including almost 1.15 million MFPs. 805 thousand products were shipped in the jet segment, of which 668 thousand units were multifunctional devices. The average cost of a printing device in the Russian Federation increased by 12% compared to year by year.

The Russian market for printing devices grew by 7.7% due to expensive equipment

"The past 2019, despite the frankly weak delivery indicators in the first half of the year, nevertheless, in the end showed a confident positive dynamics of deliveries, catching up in the second half of the year and especially in the fourth quarter," says IDC Russia & CISC leading analyst Konstantin Makarenkov. - Some instability in supply dynamics can be explained by uncertainty of market players in economic situation and exchange rates. The supply structure continues to change: the relative share of more expensive devices in both the laser and jet segments is increasing. "

The IDC study says that in the segment of monochrome devices, deliveries in units of the high-speed category to 20 ppm decreased by 14.4%, 21-30 ppm - increased by 30.3%, all other categories showed an increase.

In the segment of color technology, deliveries of high-speed categories 1-10 ppm decreased by 7.6%, 11-20 ppm - by 0.2%, the senior categories showed double-digit growth.

As for the largest manufacturers of printers and MFPs on the Russian market, IDC does not name them. HP and Kyocera remained the leaders in 2019, according to analysts.[4]

2018: Up 6.5% to $630 million - IDC

According to IDC, the volume of the Russian printing device market in 2018 reached $630 million, an increase of 6.5% compared to 2017. Quantitative supplies of equipment during this time rose by 9%, to 2.6 million units.

2017

18.5% revenue growth - IDC data

According to the results of the IDC report, in 2017, compared to 2016, the market for printing devices in Russia in dollar terms increased by 18.5% to $592.65 million, and in pieces by 5.7% to 2.4 million. The strongest growth was recorded in the segment of laser MFPs - 24.7%, and in unit - 12%.

In annual sales of printing equipment, laser equipment accounted for about 1.64 million devices, including almost 1.1 million multifunctional (MFP). The number of sold inkjet devices on the Russian market amounted to just over 754 thousand units, most of which are also MFPs - their deliveries turned out to be a little more than 610 thousand units.

The study says that in 2017, manufacturers and channel partners finally adapted to the changed economic situation. Vendors have developed tools for promotion and sales in new conditions, competition between them has increased significantly.

The key factor in the choice of equipment by consumers has finally become TCO (full cost of ownership). Also, users in all market segments show interest in non-original consumables, despite the fact that the results of the use of such products may be ambiguous, analysts warn.

In the commercial sector, the direction of outsourcing of printing services is slowly but consistently developing.

File:Aquote1.png
Users are rethinking the very concept of print services. Our outlook here is positive, as an increasing number of companies, turning to outsourcing proposals, are learning to count the real costs of printing and document management. Gradually, government organizations are also coming to outsourcing, - said the leading analyst. IDC Russia & CIS Konstantin Makarenkov
File:Aquote2.png

According to him, IDC predicts the consistent and stable development of the Russian market for printing devices in 2018, provided that there are no serious economic shocks. In addition, the systematic work of manufacturers and representatives of sales channels will remain, Makarenkov said.

IDC: Q2: 16.2% market growth in cash terms

According to IDC research, in the second quarter of 2017, the volume of the Russian printing device market decreased by 0.9% in unit terms, while increasing by 16.2% in monetary terms compared to the same period last year. During this period, 499,877 pieces of MFPs, printers and copiers were delivered to Russia, the total cost of which amounted to $120.27 million, while the average price of the device increased by 17.2% compared to the second quarter of 2016.

Laser Devices Market

In the laser devices market, the following trends were observed in the second quarter:

  • The supply of monochrome laser printers decreased compared to the second quarter of 2016 in the younger (from 1 to 20 ppm) and older (from 91 to 150 ppm) segments by 65.9% and 83.3%, respectively. The remaining segments showed double-digit growth.
  • In the category of monochrome laser MFPs, negative dynamics was also noted in the younger (from 1 to 20 ppm) segment, where the drop was 60.1%. Deliveries in the segment from 45 to 69 ppm remained almost unchanged, an increase of 0.6%. The remaining high-speed categories recorded double-digit and triple-digit growth.
  • Deliveries of color laser printers decreased in the 11-20 ppm and 31-44 ppm segments by 17.8% and 22.8%, respectively.
  • In the category of colored laser MFPs, deliveries in the 1-10 ppm segment decreased by 70.5%. In other categories, double-digit and three-digit growth was recorded.

In general, the laser technology market in the second quarter of 2017 decreased by 4.6% in unit terms and increased by 13.7% in monetary terms compared to the same period last year.

Inkjet Technology Market

The volume of the jet technology market increased in the second quarter of 2017 by 11.5% in unit terms and 35.8% in monetary terms compared to the second quarter of last year.

Deliveries of inkjet printers increased by 55.8%, while deliveries of inkjet MFPs increased by only 0.4% compared to the second quarter of 2016. As for the dynamics of price segments, unit deliveries of devices at a price of up to $100 and over $400 decreased by 21.3% and 39.4%, respectively. The remaining segments saw double-digit growth.

File:Aquote1.png
For the second calendar quarter of 2017, the Russian computer peripherals market showed approximately the same dynamics as in the previous quarter: without much change in unit deliveries and double-digit growth in monetary terms. The factors that play a key role in the dynamics of the market remained unchanged from the previous period: the national currency is more or less stable, the same applies to oil prices, the economy continues to integrate into the regime of functioning in the context of economic sanctions, which, judging by the development of events, have finally adopted a long-term character. The trend of the decline in unit deliveries to the market of input-level devices continues, which is due to the reduced purchasing power of retail consumers. Medium and large businesses are noticeably ahead of other consumer segments in their financial capabilities, which is noticeable in the model structure of equipment supplies. The development of the market in 2017 and further will depend on the development of the economy, foreign policy factors will certainly continue to play a key role, - Konstantin Makarenkov, leading analyst at IDC Russia & CIS, commented on the situation on the market for printing devices in Russia.
File:Aquote2.png

Price is a key factor in choosing printing devices in Russia

In March 2017, IDC analysts published a study stating that the price and print speed became the most important parameters for Russian companies when choosing printing equipment.

During the survey, which was attended by representatives of 166 companies from Russia, 65% of respondents said that the issue of prices when buying printers and MFPs is most important for them. In second place in importance was the speed of printing. This characteristic was named a priority by 63% of respondents. Also, 52% of the study participants mentioned the low cost of printing, and 51% of respondents considered the scanning function important. Another 38% and 35% indicated the possibility of color printing and compatibility with third-party consumables.

The least significant parameters were the fax function (8%), the ability to print from a mobile device and the built-in information security functions (9%).

2016

Market growth of 11% to $489 million

On February 14, 2017, the analytical company IDC presented a report on the Russian market for printing devices in 2016. Sales of this equipment returned to growth after the failure of 2015.

According to researchers, in 2016, manufacturers supplied about 2.28 million printers, MFPs and copiers to Russia in the amount of $489.78 million. If in physical terms the growth turned out to be minimal (by 0.4%), then in money the rise was measured by 11%. By comparison, in 2015, the printing technology market fell 36.4% in pieces and 46.5% in dollars.

In 2016, 1.56 million laser printing devices were sold in the Russian Federation, including 949 thousand. MFP. The number of jet devices sold slightly exceeded 703 thousand pieces, most of which are also MFPs - about 570 thousand of them were delivered.

According to the leading analyst of IDC Russia & CISKonstantin Makarenkov, 2016 can be considered the year of recovery of the Russian press market: the drop in supplies in units stopped and there was a very tangible increase in revenue.

File:Aquote1.png
If you take a closer look at the numbers - the "sagging" of supplies in devices of the input level and younger segments is clearly noticeable, and vice versa - the growth of supplies in segments of the middle and older levels, both monochrome and color. From my point of view, all this confirms that the market for buyers of retail printing products now has significantly less financial capabilities than the corporate market, - said Makarenkov.
File:Aquote2.png

It also follows from the IDC report that in the fourth quarter of 2016 the volume of the Russian market for printers, MFPs and copiers decreased by 0.6% in units (to 752,498), but in money it grew by 15.6% (to $170.2 million) compared to the last three months of 2015. The average cost of a printing device rose by 16.4%.

The segment of laser technology fell by 5.9% in unit terms and increased by 14.9% in monetary terms. Deliveries of jet equipment increased by 9.5% and 19.6%, respectively.

Later, in March 2017, the company announced data on sales of printing equipment in Russia and the CIS countries in 2016 and a forecast for the near future.

According to the graph given by analysts, in 2016 2.79 million printers and MFPs were sold in the Russian Federation and the CIS against 2.72 million a year earlier.

Experts note that after a sharp collapse in 2015, when sales collapsed more than one and a half times, the market stabilized, and in the next two years it is expected to grow slightly.

Forecast of changes in print device sales in Russia and the CIS, as well as in Central and Eastern Europe, IDC data

According to IDC estimates, in 2017, sales of printing devices in the Russian Federation and the CIS will rise to 2.87 million units, and in 2018 they will reach 2.89 million units. Among the factors contributing to the rise, analysts cited a slow economic recovery and the continued need to replace obsolete equipment. In addition, import substitution, the stabilization of the ruble and the expansion of business contacts with partners from Asia and Latin America should have an additional positive impact.[5]

Q2: Sales growth by a third

On September 1, 2016, IDC analysts released some results of a study of the Russian print device market. Quarterly sales of this equipment jumped by a third.

According to IDC results, in April-June 2016, 503,855 printers and MFPs were sold in Russia in the amount of $103.3 million, which is 37.3% and 32% more than a year ago. The average cost of the device during this time decreased by 3.9%.

The volume of the inkjet equipment segment increased by 31.4% in units (up to 117 thousand) and by 33% in money. Deliveries increased in all price categories of this equipment, except for devices more expensive than $400.

The Russian market for printing devices has grown by a third

In the second quarter of 2016, Russian sales of laser printing equipment reached 385,258 (MFP accounted for 245,162 devices), which is 39.4% more than a year earlier. Revenue from the sale of these products increased by 32.1%.

Deliveries of laser monochrome printers showed two- and even three-digit growth in almost all segments, with the exception of products of average performance (45-69 ppm).

Shipments of monochrome laser MFPs with a capacity of 1-20, 31-44 and 45-69 ppm increased by 94.6%, 21.7% and 105.8%, respectively. Segments 21 to 30 ppm and 70 to 90 ppm remained at Q2 2015. The senior segment (from 91 to 150 ppm) decreased by 61.1% in physical terms.

Leading analyst at IDC Russia & CISKonstantin Makarenkov says that the performance of the Russian printing device market has improved markedly not only in relation to the second quarter of 2015, which was a failure, but also regarding the first months of 2016, which gives some hope for optimism.

File:Aquote1.png
What is happening on the market today, I would characterize as an adaptation to new economic realities (the fall in the ruble exchange rate, the subsequent drop in demand in all market segments). Now all participants in the "sales chain": both vendors, and the sales channel, and end users - are gradually adapting to modern economic conditions of reduced demand and heightened competition. The greatest success is now achieved by manufacturers capable of providing sufficient price flexibility and offering the market the most profitable products and solutions in terms of TSO (total cost of ownership), - said Makarenkov.
File:Aquote2.png

2015

Sales almost halved to $441 million

On February 10, 2016, IDC analysts published the results of a study of the Russian printing equipment market. Revenue on it was almost halved.

According to experts, in 2015, 2.27 million printers and MFPs were sold in Russia in the amount of $441.42 million, which is 36.4% and 46.5% less, respectively, than a year earlier. Laser technology accounted for 1.62 million devices (among them - 956 thousand. MFP), per jet - 638 thousand units (517 thousand MFP).

In 2015, the Russian market for printing devices fell by 36% in pieces and by 47% in money

Leading analyst at IDC Russia & CISKonstantin Makarenkov notes that in 2014 and 2015, the Russian computer peripherals market fell by half in pieces and money due to the devaluation of the ruble, the sanctions policy of Western countries, a decrease in the purchasing power of the population and the transition of the business sector to resource saving mode.

File:Aquote1.png
Nevertheless, the vast majority of manufacturers did not leave the office printing market in Russia: they, like users, strive to adapt to new economic conditions and keep buyers and their market share, primarily due to a well-thought-out and consistent pricing policy. The beginning of 2016 does not promise to be easy, nevertheless, the market as a whole retains a certain share of optimism, those of its players who will show great flexibility in the changed economic conditions will benefit, - said Makarenkov.
File:Aquote2.png

In October-December 2015, the Russian market for printing devices in physical terms decreased by 32.1% compared to the same period of the previous year to 757.2 thousand units, in money - by 38.2% to $147.2 million. The average cost of the device decreased by 9.1%.

According to the results of the last three months of 2015, the volume of the laser equipment segment in the Russian Federation fell by 36.9% and 32.1% in pieces and dollars, respectively. Unit sales of inkjet equipment decreased by 27.3%. Only in the price category of $200-300, deliveries of inkjet products increased, which was facilitated by the Epson L-series models, the IDC notes.

Q3: 50% market drop in currency

In general, the Russian market for printing devices in the first 3 quarters of 2015 decreased by 49.9% over the year to $294.25 million. In unit terms, the market contracted by 38.4% to 1,510,875 devices.

According to IDC, in the 3rd quarter of 2015, the volume of the Russian market for printing devices in monetary terms reached $126.61 million. The growth compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015 was 61.7%. In unit terms, the market volume was 731,542 devices (+ 99.4% compared to Q2 2015).

During the reporting period, 524,511 laser printing devices were sold in the amount of $105.51 million. Of these, MFPs accounted for 292,289 devices for $72 million.

During the same period, 204,621 inkjet printing devices were sold in the amount of $20.14 million. Of these, 171,023 are MFPs with a total value of $14.85 million.

First half of the year: a drop of 50%

On September 22, 2015, IDC analysts reported the collapse of the Russian printing equipment market. This decline is associated with difficult economic conditions in the country.

As stated in the IDC EMEA Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker study, in the first half of 2015, the supply of printers and MFPs to Russia decreased by almost half compared to a year ago, and the total revenue of vendors decreased by 60%. Experts did not give absolute values.

In Russia, sales of printers and MFPs collapsed due to the difficult economic situation

IDC employees list the following as reasons for the fall in sales of printing devices in the Russian Federation: a slowdown in GDP growth, a budget deficit, strong ruble volatility, general uncertainty in the channel and difficult economic conditions.

Despite all the problems, Kyocera was able to increase the sale of printers and MFPs in our country in January-June 2015 on an annualized basis. This was facilitated by an aggressive pricing policy, in which the vendor fixed prices in rubles and thereby ensured the stability and predictability necessary for customers and partners. Kyocera turned out to be the only growing manufacturer of printing equipment on the Russian market in the first six months of 2015, experts say.

According to IDC forecasts, the demand for printers and MFPs in Russia will continue to fall in the second half of 2015. In connection with the reduction of IT budgets and the course of import substitution chosen by the Russian government, IDC analysts recommend that foreign manufacturers closely monitor the actions of the authorities and the work of local competitors.[6]

2014

According to the results of 2014, the Russian market of printing devices decreased by 10.3% - to 3.57 million units, in monetary terms by 15.4% - to $828.35 million. In total sales, laser equipment accounted for about 2.47 million devices, including 1.52 million MFPs, of which 1.08 million are represented by inkjet printers, the research company IDC said.

Q4

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the market for printing devices of the Russian Federation decreased by 9.0% in unit terms and by 19.7% in monetary terms, compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, IDC reported. During the reporting period, about 1,114 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs were delivered to Russia, with a total cost of $240.02 million.

Analysts attribute the continued reduction in market volumes to the difficult economic situation, sanctions, and the depreciation of the ruble. According to Konstantin Makarenkov, a leading analyst at IDC, priority demand in all market segments remains for color and multifunctional devices of various price levels.

Q3

The decline in the Russian printing devices market in the third quarter of 2014 continued - by 5% in unit and by 14% in monetary terms, compared to the third quarter of 2013. In literal numbers, more than 940 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs were shipped during the specified period, with a total value of about $208 million.

The volume of supplies of monochrome laser printers in unit terms decreased by 9% compared to the third quarter of 2013. The volume of supplies of monochrome laser MFPs decreased - about 6%. IDC analysts noted positive dynamics in the middle and high-performance market segments. Deliveries of colored laser MFPs grew by almost 30%.

The fall in the laser technology market in the third quarter of 2014 of the Russian Federation was noted at the level of 6% in unit, and by 16% in monetary terms, compared to the third quarter of last year. Such market dynamics, according to experts, show: the purchasing power of home users and small businesses has decreased significantly due to economic problems, but medium and large businesses continue to modernize the fleet of printing equipment, with special attention to the efficiency and performance of new equipment. That is why sales of multifunctional devices with improved total cost of ownership continue to prevail over printer sales in both black and white and color segments.

The negative dynamics for sales of inkjet devices in the second quarter of 2014 continued in the third, but the decrease was about 1% in unit terms compared to the same period in 2013. Deliveries of inkjet printers of the initial (up to $100) and average ($200-300) price segments decreased, while expensive equipment (from $400) showed growth compared to the third quarter of 2013.

The inkjet equipment market in the Russian Federation notes a drop in interest from suppliers and consumers in devices of the initial price segment with a double-digit increase in the supply of devices with high speed and improved printing quality in the highest price segment, inexpensive devices with a continuous ink supply system manufactured by both vendors ("Printing Factory Epson ") and third-party manufacturers (Chernil.net, Inksystem.biz).

The main reason for the market contraction is the continued decline in economic growth in the country.

2013

According to the results of 2013, the Russian market for printing devices decreased by 4.8% compared to 2012 and reached 3.99 million units. In monetary terms, the market decreased by 3.2% - $987.7 million in literal numbers, IDC informed in a periodic study.

Q4: Volumes continue to decline

In the fourth quarter of 2013, 1.225 million printers, copiers and MFPs were delivered to Russia with a total value of $302.9 million.

Analysts noted an increase in interest in color laser devices amid a general decline in demand. This segment of the market is the only one where, according to the results of 2013, there is an increase in both quantitative (16.5%) and monetary terms - 8.2%, compared to 2012. The volume of supplies is 182 thousand units with a total value of $180 million.

The number of laser devices amounted to 2.78 million, including MFP - 1.59 million.

Konstantin Makarenkov, a leading analyst at IDC, noted: "In 2013, color laser printers and especially MFPs showed the maximum sales growth - the growth of these devices in percentage terms was double-digit compared to 2012. Supplies of monochrome laser printers, on the contrary, have decreased, and in MFP sales there is a transition to inexpensive devices. According to inkjet technology, in general, deliveries in pieces are reduced with an increase in cash revenue - this indicates a gradual shift in manufacturers' preferences to promote more expensive devices and go to niche segments, where the high quality of color printing is at the forefront, which laser printers and MFPs cannot always provide. "

Q3: Market stagnates

The printing devices market Russia grew by 1% in unit terms, and fell by 1.1% in monetary terms, compared to the 3rd quarter of 2012. According to a periodic study, in the IDC third quarter of 2013 Russia , more than 987 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs were delivered with a total value of $243.4 million.

There was a decrease in the supply of laser monochrome printers compared to the third quarter of last year in all segments, excluding the 45-69 pp/min segment. - there is growth here, analysts are talking about continued activity in the corporate sector. Negative dynamics is observed in the initial segment of laser monochrome MFP of the initial segment (from 21 to 30 pages/min.) and in the senior segments (70-90 pages/min. and 91-150 ppm), the rest showing growth.

Growth in sales of color laser printers in the segments 1-10 pp/min. and 11-20 pp/min, 31-44 pp/min. and 70-90 pp./min., in other segments negative dynamics. Colored laser MFPs increased significantly in the initial segments (11-20 pp/min. and 21-30 pp/min) and in the senior segment (70-90 pp/min), the middle segment is negative dynamics. The total volume of the laser technology market in the third quarter of 2013 decreased by 2% in unit terms and by 4.1% in monetary terms, compared to the same period in 2012.

Konstantin Makarenkov, a leading analyst at IDC, determines how stagnation is determined by what is happening on the market in the third quarter - the market demonstrates results close to 2012. The further development of the color device market unexpectedly announced itself with a jump in the inkjet segment, and, according to the analyst, this is evidence that the market is still very far from final formation, and technology manufacturers are still able to take non-trivial steps, this makes the market interesting.

Q2: Corporate segment holds

IDC in its quarterly study noted that the average price of a device delivered to Russia in this period increased by 9.3% compared to the second quarter of 2012.

The laser device segment demonstrates trends:

  • lower supply of laser monochrome printers in deliveries compared to the second quarter of last year, in all segments, excluding the senior segment (performance from 49 to 150 ppm), which showed growth, which indicates continued activity in the corporate sector.

  • the volume of supplied monochrome laser MFPs also indicates negative dynamics, the exception was the segment of 31-44 pages/min.

  • sales growth in the sub-segment of color laser printers, in the younger segments (1-20 ppm)

  • the remaining segments yielded negative growth.

Color laser MFPs:

  • solid growth in the junior and middle segments (1-44 ppm),
  • in the senior segments - negative dynamics.

In general, the laser technology market in the second quarter decreased by 12% in unit terms and by 5.8% in monetary terms, compared to the second quarter of 2012.

Deliveries of inkjet equipment decreased by 18.8% in units, compared to the second quarter of 2012. A decrease in supplies is observed in all segments: printers and multifunctional devices, with the exception of price segments $200-$ 299 and more than $400 for printers and $300-$ 399 for MFPs.

According to IDC leading analyst Konstantin Makarenkov, market dynamics in the second quarter - a smooth decline in indicators - may signal an approaching recession. However, positive indicators are noticeable - in the products of corporate segments, medium and large businesses still feel quite confident.

Q1: No growth to expect

2013, according to analysts, will not affect the pronounced dynamics in the print device market. Russia The reason for this is the slowdown in the country's economic development in 2012 and restrained forecasts of indicators in the economy. The development of the market based on optimistic forecasts may respond to an increase of 1.8% in unit terms and a decrease of 1.6% in monetary terms, the supply of inkjet printing media will be significantly reduced.

Konstantin Makarenkov, a leading analyst at IDC, assumes the most characteristic market trend in 2013, the further migration of users from devices with one function to MFPs, in all price segments. In the enterprise segment, you should expect a shift in preferences to more powerful shared devices, but with a lower total cost of ownership.

Home users ensured an increase in deliveries of entry-level laser devices in the first quarter of 2013 by 7.4% compared to the beginning of 2012, but the volume of deliveries of inkjet equipment continues to decline. Exception: inkjet printers in the price segment from $200 to $299 and inkjet MFPs worth less than $200.

The corporate segment maintains positive consumption dynamics compared to the same period in 2012: colored laser MFPs with a printing speed of 21-30 pp./min. and monochrome laser MFPs at 31-44 pp/min. showed the largest increase in supplies. In the category of monochrome laser printers, the largest growth in supplies was provided by devices with speeds from 45 to 90 pp/min.

Deliveries of full-color laser devices are growing in all segments except the initial (up to 10 pages/min.), IDC explains this by the rapidly growing affordability of color printing devices of the middle and older technological groups.

A gradual decrease in the volume of printing in the corporate sector should be expected in the medium term, since regulatory changes in the exchange of electronic invoices between counterparties, which entered into force in 2012, will affect the volume of printed documents.

2012

The realities of the end of 2012 are in line with the June forecast of IDC: the growth of the printing device market in Russia, compared to 2011, is small and has become a clear reduction in the share in the supply of inkjet devices.

"In 2013, we do not expect significant growth of the market in unit terms," said Konstantin Makarenkov, a leading analyst at IDC. "Rather, we can expect further redistribution of profit shares between technologies: the supply of laser devices will grow due to color and monochrome MFPs of all price segments, while the jet segment will change rather qualitatively, through price diversification and redistribution of priorities of key manufacturers towards specific market segments."

Q4: Lower quantity, flat dynamics

In 2012, 4 million 189 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs were imported into Russia, according to an IDC study, the market volume was approximately $1 billion. Compared to 2012, the print device market grew by 0.1%, and growth in financial terms was 9.2%.

The main reason for the flat growth dynamics of the market in units of devices is a decrease in the relative share of shipment of inkjet equipment and monochrome laser printers in the total volume over the past year: a decrease in the supply of inkjet devices - by 14.7%. The volume of shipment of inkjet printers, as well as inkjet MFPs, decreased: 15.1% and 13.3%, respectively. This decline was also observed in Q4 2012, when inkjet shipments fell 16.4% compared to Q4 2011.

In the future, for inkjet technology, we can expect deepening price diversification of supply and an increase in the average price of devices, according to IDC.

There is a decrease in the supply of laser printers against the background of an increase in the total number of laser devices: total growth in 2012 by 1.5%, due to an increase in MFPs - 15.1% and a decrease in laser printers in 2012 by 4%, and in the 4th quarter of 2012 by almost 14%.

Q3 - Market grows, supplies decline

During the third quarter of 2012, more than 976 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs were delivered to Russia, with a total value of more than $245 million. The figures reflected a decline in the volume of supplies to the Russian market of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2011 (more than 1 million units and $276 million in absolute values), IDC said in a periodic market study published on November 21, 2012.

One of the main reasons for the reduction is a decrease in the supply of laser printers and devices based on inkjet printing technology. Deliveries of inkjet equipment decreased by almost 25%. The seasonal increase in buying activity did not change the situation in the market. At the same time, analysts note, the most significant decline - by more than a third compared to the third quarter of 2011 - in the segment of ordinary inkjet printing devices of A4 size.

The inkjet printing devices market segment has almost exhausted the growth potential under the "device price reduction - market volume increase" scheme. It is likely that the strategies of the leading players will be revised. The study states, in particular: "IDC captures a number of changes in the structure of the jet segment: deepening price diversification of supply and increasing the average price of the device."

The growth in the supply of laser multifunctional devices (MFPs) continued in the third quarter. The most dynamic indicators are demonstrated by full-color laser MFPs, the volume growth of which over 12 months exceeded 71%. Following them, with positive dynamics of 5.4%, the third quarter of 2012 completed the segment of monochrome MFPs.

In all segments in the third quarter of 2012, there was a decrease in the average price of the device. A significant market share at the same time, more than 68% - devices in the range up to $200.

"Despite the decrease in the volume of supplies in the third quarter of 2012, according to the aggregate results of the first three quarters, the printing equipment market has grown compared to the same period last year," said Nadezhda Babushkina, an analyst at IDC. "In 2013, IDC expects new interesting offers in the inkjet segment, as well as continued growth in the supply of full-color and high-performance laser equipment, caused, in particular, by a decrease in the average price of devices and, as a result, their greater availability to a wide range of business users
."

Q2 - Demand for home printing devices falls

The Russian market for stable printing devices in the 2nd quarter of 2012 grew by 26% to more than 1 million units delivered to the country compared to the same period in 2011, according to an IDC report published on September 3, 2012.

In monetary terms, the Russian market for sustainable printing in the 2 quarter of 2012 amounted to 235 million. dollars

Despite the growth of the market in both quantitative and monetary terms, IDC is recording signs of a decrease in demand for printing devices in the segment of home users. This decrease, also noted by key market players, reflects the decrease in consumer activity of home users typical for the 2nd quarter of the year.

Analysts note seasonal decline in consumer activity among home users

Considering commercial sales, the largest increase in supplies - 45% - was recorded in the segment of monochrome laser devices. These indicators are associated with an increase in the supply of printers and entry-level MFPs (performance from 1 to 20 pages per minute). Deliveries of devices of this type increased by more than 60%. And their share in the gross supply of monochrome laser devices exceeded 66%. "It should be noted that the share of entry-level devices is almost directly dependent on standard seasonal fluctuations. Deliveries of the third and fourth quarters of the calendar year, reflecting an increase in demand from home users and tender activity, are characterized by an increase in the share in the supply of entry-level devices. This year, this increase occurred a quarter earlier and was the main reason for the growth of the monochrome segment, "the analytical report says.

The volume of deliveries of full-color inkjet devices in the 2nd quarter of 2012 shows that this segment retained the indicators of the previous year; IDC records only a slight decrease in supply in quantitative terms, taking into account the volume of the segment. "It should be noted that the segment of full-color inkjet devices for the second quarter in a row demonstrates positive sustainable development," analysts said.

"Earlier we noted that the possibilities of simple extensive market growth have been practically exhausted," says IDC analyst Nadezhda Babushkina. - It is possible that the explosive growth of deliveries, demonstrated in the second quarter of 2012, was the first sign of the game of ahead in the sales channel. In any case, along with the changing characteristics of the channel and the increasing proliferation of both diversified trading companies and wide-profile players in the distribution channel, such a game ahead of the curve poses a new challenge to all market players. "

2011

Q4: Year Totals

According to IDC, 4.18 million printers, copiers and MFPs were delivered to Russia in 2011, which is 0.8% more than in the previous year. In monetary terms, the market increased by 1.4% to $940.9 million.

Market growth delivered strong sales in the first and third quarters, while the second and fourth quarters delivered more modest results than a year earlier. However, the fourth quarter was once again the largest of the year in terms of supply, thanks to a seasonal increase in demand - mainly from the corporate and public sectors.

The share of multifunctional devices in the total volume of supplies continues to grow, increasing to 57.3% of the total volume of supplies in unit terms. In addition, it is worth noting the positive dynamics in the subsegment of full-color laser devices, the share of which was 5.3% in unit and 14.3% in monetary terms of the total supply of laser equipment. Sales of A3 format equipment increased by about 40% in both piece and monetary terms.

Both sub-segments also show outstripping growth of MFPs. Monochrome laser devices, whose deliveries increased by 7.3% to 170.8 thousand units, still dominate the total volume, while the supply of inkjet equipment for the year decreased by more than 8.7% to 141.5 thousand units.

As for the positions of vendors, the Top 5 in the laser technology market, according to IDC, looked like this: HP, Samsung, Canon (Canon Ru), Xerox, Brother (Brother).

Q3

According to IDC, in the third quarter of 2011, over a million printers, copiers and MFPs (A4-A2 formats) were delivered to Russia with a total cost of $271.5 million. At the end of the quarter, the printing devices market increased by 1% in unit terms compared to the same period in 2010. In general, the results of the third quarter fit into the framework of expectations with the necessary correction for the current political and economic situation in the country and the world.

This slight increase can be attributed in part to the end of the low base effect and pent-up demand, which led to rapid growth in supply and consumption in the third quarter of 2010. In addition, market growth was restrained by short-supply of devices from some leading vendors, including due to natural disasters in Japan.

The leading supplier at the end of the quarter is still NR, whose market share was 50%. The second and third places went to Canon (Canon Ru) and Samsung, respectively.

Laser technology still dominates the Russian market of printing devices: the share of products of this technology in the total volume of supplies increased compared to the same period in 2010 and amounted to 67%.

The proportion of inkjet devices continues to decline. During the reporting period, 349.5 thousand units of products were imported into the country, which is 15.5% lower than in the same period in 2010. In monetary terms, the volume of this segment amounted to $33.3 million. Deliveries of multifunctional devices in the 3rd quarter decreased more significantly compared to printers. However, the lion's share of the inkjet segment is still held by MFPs (72%).

In contrast to inkjet printers and MFPs, supplies of monochrome laser devices show steady growth (18.8% in unit terms). In monetary terms, the segment increased by 10.9%, which is explained by a decrease in prices for MFPs and printers, as well as the predominance in the number of deliveries of cheap devices (up to $399).

The number of color laser devices imported into the country decreased by 5.2% to 35.7 thousand, while the volume in monetary terms increased by 36.2% to 38.3 million dollars. As in the second quarter, the negative dynamics of the segment in piece terms is dictated by a decrease in the supply of color laser printers. The growth of the segment in monetary terms is due to an increase in the supply of higher-performance and expensive colored equipment.

"The third quarter of 2010 in the market of printing devices was notable for the fact that it was the delivery of contracts frozen during the crisis," says Ismail Belov, leading analyst at IDC. - Home users, feeling an improvement in the general economic situation, also willingly purchased goods. This year, a similar development in the corporate segment should be expected in the fourth quarter, as the main projects will close by December. But retail consumers - due to the feeling of restraining income growth and the expectation of the notorious second wave of the crisis - are likely to be more stingy. "

Q2

According to IDC, in the second quarter of 2011, over 797.7 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs (A4-A2 formats) were delivered to the country with a total value of $179.47 million. At the end of the quarter, the printing device market decreased by 5.4% in unit terms compared to the same period in 2010.

Some of the market contraction can be attributed to good performance in the second quarter of 2010. Traditionally, the second quarter is characterized by a smaller number of deliveries caused by a seasonal factor, and the total number of imported printing equipment decreases within 15-30% compared to the first quarter. In 2010, the second quarter was extremely strong in terms of supplies and decreased by only 4% compared to the first. This was mainly due to the renewed demand from users and the desire of vendors to saturate their warehouses. Pent-up demand was largely met during 2010, and we can now expect a slowdown in the market.

Laser technology still dominates the Russian market of printing devices: the share of devices of this technology in the total volume of supplies increased compared to the same period in 2010 and amounted to 62.6%.

The negative dynamics of the market in the second quarter of 2011 was largely due to the reduction in supplies of inkjet devices to the Russian market. During the reporting period, 284.9 thousand units of this type of equipment were delivered, which is 11.3% less than in the second quarter of 2010. Printer deliveries have decreased significantly compared to multifunctional devices (MFPs). The share of the latter has undergone a significant change compared to 2010, an increase of 3.7% and accounting for 79.3% of all inkjet devices.

Shipments of laser devices also declined in the second quarter. Monochrome printing devices account for 95% of all deliveries in the laser segment. At the end of the quarter, the number of monochrome printers, copiers and MFPs decreased by 2.2% to 474 thousand units. Printers still account for more than half of the supply of all monochrome devices, but multifunctional devices continue to increase their presence in the segment, increasing their share compared to 2010.

The number of color laser devices imported into the country decreased by 5.2%. At the same time, the negative dynamics of the segment was dictated by a decrease in the supply of color laser printers. The number of multifunctional devices imported into the country increased by 25.6%.

The leading supplier for the quarter remains:

Leading IDC analyst Ismail Belov is inclined to consider the results of the second quarter as a technical correction.

"The market failed to fully consume Q1 inventory; the main types of equipment have always been available. In addition, the second quarter of any year has always been a "failure" due to the natural seasonality of the market, says Belov, "so I do not think that there are reasons for conclusions about the negative dynamics in the market as a whole."

Q1

According to IDC, in the first quarter of 2011, over 991.6 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs (A4-A2 formats) were delivered to the country with a total value of $207.5 million, which exceeded the indicators of the same period in 2010 by 11.7%.

The leading supplier at the end of the quarter is still NR, whose market share is 40%. The second and third places went to Samsung (20.6%) and Canon (Canon Ru) (17.3%), respectively.

In the total mass of printing equipment supplied to the Russian market, laser devices are still the leading position. The annual growth rate of supply of these devices (+ 14.6% compared to the first quarter of 2010) also exceeds the same indicators of inkjet printing devices (+ 8.3%). This suggests that it is the sales of laser equipment that are the main factor in the growth of the copying and multiplying equipment market in Russia.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2011, the volume of deliveries in the inkjet equipment segment amounted to 352.2 thousand units, and the total cost of deliveries - 30.5 million dollars. At the same time, against the background of an increase in the volume of supplies by 8.3%, their volume in monetary terms decreased by 8.8%.

"The rate of printer penetration in Russia is still lower than in the West," says Ismail Belov, senior analyst at IDC. - The segment of home users carries great potential and with the growth of the economy, well-being and quality of life of the population is able to significantly affect the growth of the market. The activation of this segment led to the purchase of more cheap models, which led to market growth in quantitative terms and a reduction in monetary terms. "

The supply of laser equipment is still dominated by monochrome printing devices - 595 thousand against 36.7 thousand color printing devices. At the same time, compared to the first quarter of last year, "color" increased by 45.2%, while monochrome devices - only by 13.1%. The total cost of supplying laser monochrome printers ($145.5 thousand) is also increasing at a slower pace compared to the supply of color laser printers ($27.8 thousand): 4.6% and 24.3%, respectively.

IDC attributes the larger growth in supply of color laser devices in quantitative and monetary terms to increased consumer activity of home users, SOHO and small businesses, as well as a variety of attractive offers from suppliers.

"Home users are striving to purchase a universal device for printing everything in a row, copying, scanning, printing photos," notes Ismail Belov. - Such consumers prefer multifunctional devices with an optimal combination of price and quality. Representatives of small businesses and SOHO, many of whom were forced to purchase cheaper jet equipment during the crisis period, are trying to purchase full-color rather than monochrome office equipment after defrosting budgets. "

2010

In the forecast dated December 1, 2010, IDC believed that in the whole market by the end of 2010, supplies will increase by 33.4%, and in monetary terms the market will grow slightly more - by 48%. The main factors driving market growth will be pent-up demand from previous periods and the need for equipment upgrades.

Q3

In the third quarter of 2010, more than 1 million 62 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs (A4-A2 formats) were delivered on the Russian market of printing devices with a total value of $246.7 million, which corresponds to a quarterly growth of 42.2%.

In the inkjet segment, deliveries increased by 20.2% compared to the same period in 2009 and amounted to 440 thousand units with a total value of $39.4 million. The share of the cheapest devices (average retail price up to $100) increased compared to the previous quarter and amounted to 73.4%. Price competition in this segment is the most severe, therefore, the largest drop in prices in the third quarter compared to 2009 was observed in the lower price segment.

The supply of monochrome laser printers, copiers and MFPs increased by 30.9% compared to the third quarter of 2009 and amounted to 572.256 units, while their total cost increased by 53.2% to $171.5 million. The share of MFPs in this segment has been growing slowly but surely since the end of 2009. Still, most of the supply of these devices falls on the least high-speed segment (1-20ppm), whose share is 69.3%, although in monetary terms it occupies only 42.3% of the market.

Deliveries of color laser devices in the third quarter of 2010 amounted to 37.689 units, which corresponds to an annual increase of 59.8%. In monetary terms, deliveries increased by 39%, and the total value of this segment amounted to 27.8 million dollars. The share of MFPs decreased compared to the previous period and amounted to 22.3%, although in monetary terms such devices occupy more than half of the market (52.7%).

The leading supplier in the quarter was NR, which increased its share in all technology segments and strengthened its presence in the market as a whole. The share of this supplier in the Russian market of printing devices amounted to 44.4%. The second and third places went to Canon (16.7%) and Samsung (13.6%), respectively. The quarter's results generally coincided with the expectations of IDC analysts.

Q1

In the first quarter of 2010, 885 thousand printers, copiers and MFPs were delivered to the Russian market of printing devices with a total value of $202 million. Positive supply dynamics, which were observed at the end of 2009, continued in the first quarter of 2010 - in unit terms, the market grew by 42.3% over 12 months, increasing even more in monetary terms due to annual price increases and a slight shift in supplies towards more productive and expensive devices.

In the first quarter, the largest increase in deliveries was observed in the black and white laser device segment (+ 60% compared to the first quarter of 2009), mainly due to MFPs, the share of which increased relative to printers. Deliveries of black and white digital copiers are currently showing negative dynamics due to a partial shift in demand towards MFPs.

IDC notes an increase in corporate customer activity in the first quarter - many "closed" fiscal year 2009, adopted budgets for 2010 or its first quarter, and quite actively purchased printing devices. It cannot but rejoice that in the segment of color laser printers and black-and-white laser MFPs, the share of the cheapest and least productive and high-speed devices has decreased, which suggests that consumers are moving away from the policy of total savings.

The five leading suppliers on the Russian printing device market are traditionally stable: HP, Samsung, Epson, Canon (Canon Ru) and Xerox. Despite some redistribution of market shares between them, the listed companies still control 94% of the market in piece and 85% in monetary terms.
