Water supply
2021: The city officially launched a water intake on Belbek
In Sevastopol, the official launch of the water intake on the Belbek River took place. The start of the work of the new water supply facility was given during a teleconference with the president. Russia Vladimir Putin
According to Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Ivanov, who was present at the launch of the complex, the first stage of the water supply program in Sevastopol was the construction of a water conduit from the Kadykovsky quarry, the second stage was the construction of a water intake at Belbek.
The construction of the water intake complex on Belbek, one of the most complete rivers of the Crimean peninsula, began in October 2020. The complex of hydrotechnical works included the expansion and strengthening of 400 meters of the Belbek river channel, the construction of the bucket itself, two pumping stations, a water conduit and treatment facilities. The length of the bucket is 160 m, the width is 230 m, the depth is 7.5 m, of which the workers are 5 m.
The maximum design capacity of the complex is up to 50 thousand cubic meters. per day, this is about 40% of the daily water demand of Sevastopol. These volumes will allow during floods to reduce water intake from the Chernorechensky reservoir by a similar amount: at this time, the main source of water for Sevastopol will be able to accumulate water.[1]
2016: Increase in average daily water consumption
The average daily water consumption from the reservoir is 120 thousand cubic meters. Water from the reservoir enters two lines of water pipelines 365 meters long and 1.6 thousand mm in diameter into the natural channel of the Chernaya River, from where it is supplied to the system by gravity intake facilities or pumps.
In 2016, in the summer, water consumption reached 185 thousand cubic meters. per day. Due to the high wear of the networks, losses reached 45%. Other surface sources are: Belbek water intake and Kadykovsky quarry.
2012: The threat of the city's water supply
In November 2012, it became known that the water level in the Chernorechensky reservoir - the main source of water supply to Sevastopol - reached a critical minimum. This was reported by the press service of the Sevastopol administration.
The volume of water in the reservoir at this time is 13.8 million cubic meters. m., despite the fact that at least 30 million cubic meters are needed to stably meet the needs of the city. In this regard, the Sevastopol authorities decided to organize the supply of water from a reserve source - the Mezhgorny reservoir near Simferopol.
On November 23, 2012, Nikolay Pereguda, director of the Sevgorvodokanal communal enterprise, together with city officials, examined the state of the Dnieper water conduit, through which water from the Mezhgorny reservoir will flow to Sevastopol. As the Sevastopol newspaper clarifies, this 72-kilometer-long water conduit has not been operated for about ten years.
{{quote 'Once every 10-11 years there are periods of drought when we need water from the Intermountain reservoir and we have to use a reserve water conduit. During the time it is not used, steel pipes are corrosive. To put the water conduit into operation, it is necessary to carry out repair work, otherwise it will not be possible to avoid leaks, "said Margarita Solodun, head of the department for general issues and public relations of Sevgorvodokanal. }} The mayor of Sevastopol, Vladimir Yatsuba, announced the need to restore the Dnieper water conduit back in March 2012, when the water level in the Chernorechensky reservoir once again decreased. The mayor estimated the washing, testing, hydraulics, chlorination and disinfection of the pipe at 2 million hryvnia (7.6 million rubles). It is not known whether specific instructions were given in this regard, whether the necessary work was carried out.
According to the publication New Region, the shallowing of the Chernorechensky reservoir became known in early November 2012, but then the authorities of Sevastopol asked not to sow panic in the city, calling the current situation alarming, but not critical. The agency also noted that since the beginning of this month, water supply has been regularly turned off for 7-10 hours in different microdistricts of Sevastopol. In Sevgorvodokanal, this measure was explained by the repair work.[2]
