2021: Inclusion in the register of Russian design centers of microelectronics

The Center for the Development and Production of Microelectronics GS Nanotech (as part of the innovative cluster Technopolice GS, Gusev Kaliningrad Region) is included in the register of Russian designers and developers of electronic component base products and electronic products. This was announced by Technopolice GS on September 27, 2021.

Entering into the register gives GS Nanotech the opportunity to take advantage of the benefits of the set of measures developed by the Russian Government to support the domestic IT industry, which includes several areas: tax incentives to companies engaged in the design and development of the electronic component base or its components, stimulating demand and innovation through a system of grants, helping startups, developing public-private partnerships, expanding the personnel base.

File:Aquote1.png
The decision to enter the register is due to already completed projects for the development of domestic housed microcircuits for various purposes, solid-state drives and other products produced at their own production facilities, as well as current projects for the development of ECB intelligent electricity metering devices, "said Oleg Kim, General Director of GS Nanotech. - The preferences that the Government provides to us as a domestic design center of microelectronics and radio electronics will increase our competitiveness in the Russian and world markets, will contribute to investments in the development and expansion of the product range. We strive for the maximum possible localization of the electronic component base, because we are convinced: Russia needs independence from imported components. Government support measures will help us continue to develop projects in this area.

Among the priority areas of activity of GS Nanotech are services for the development and contract packaging of microcircuits, mass production of the first domestic solid-state drives (SSD), production of ECBs for electricity metering devices and other electronics. The company is a developer and manufacturer for mass demand of its own SiP microprocessors - SiP Amber S2 and SiP Emerald N2M.

2020

Launch of LED production in Russia

On November 25, 2020, GS Group Holding announced to TAdviser that it was launching on the basis of its own microelectronic enterprise GS Nanotech (as part of the innovative cluster Technopolice GS, Gusev Kaliningrad Region) a direction for building LEDs. This is the maximum possible level of localization of such production in the Russian Federation in November 2020 . The LED prototyping phase has already been completed.

The largest production of LEDs in Russia with the maximum level of localization is launched

In the 1st quarter of 2021, it is planned to supply equipment, commissioning and development of processes related to the launch of large-scale production. In the 2-3 quarters of 2021, the company plans to enter large-scale production with capacities of up to 145 million units per year. By this time, the holding plans to invest more than 300 million rubles in production.

The product range will include LEDs in three main types of cases: LEDs of types 2835, 3030 and 5050, which together account for more than 95 percent of the Russian lighting market as of November 2020.

File:Aquote1.png
The Russian LED lighting market is in dire need of domestic components, as well as the development of competition in terms of localizing the component base. Thanks to the accumulated competencies in large-scale production of microelectronic products for the consumer market, we can quickly and rationally deploy a new direction from the point of view of investment. Our capacity will satisfy more than 50 percent of the public sector in high-quality LEDs. We are open to cooperation with all manufacturers of lamps and are ready to offer transparent partnership conditions,
noted the head of the GS Group strategic projects department, member of the APSS board Andrei Martynov.
File:Aquote2.png

The volume of the Russian LED lighting market as of 2019 is estimated at 58.9 billion rubles, which is a share of slightly more than 1% of the global market (Lighting Business Consulting data). The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation estimates the market for state contracts, within the framework of which traditional light sources should be replaced by LED lighting, at 442 billion rubles. This assessment assumes that government contracts will be implemented gradually over 10 years (from 2017). As of November 2020, about 35-40 percent of lighting systems in the Russian Federation have been replaced by LED, while the state program for the modernization of lighting and the replacement of lighting fixtures with diode has been completed by about 25-30 percent.

In the total cost of lighting equipment, the cost of the LED occupies 7.5%. Thus, the market of LEDs in Russia in value terms can be estimated at 3.3 billion rubles. per year or 0.843 billion units in kind. An analysis of the public procurement market showed that government contracts for the replacement of lighting devices account for one third of the total market volume (in value terms). At the same time, according to APSS estimates, the current capacity of domestic LED manufacturers in total does not exceed 45 million units per year.

Appointment of Oleg Kim as CEO

On August 7, 2020, GS Group Holding announced to TAdviser the appointment of Oleg Kim to the post of General Director of GS Nanotech (JS-Nanotech JSC, a center for the development and production of microelectronics as part of the Technopolice GS innovation cluster). More details here.

Plan to deploy chip manufacturing for metering devices by Q1 2021

On July 22, 2020, GS Group Holding announced plans to produce localized complex solutions (electronic component kits) to create smart individual electricity metering devices. The production of component kits will be deployed by GS Group in 2021 on the basis of its own center for the development and production of microelectronics GS Nanotech (an enterprise as part of the innovative cluster Technopolice GS, Gusev Kaliningrad region).

Chip production plans for metering devices by Q1 2021

The package will include integrated circuits for various purposes: microcontrollers, meters, interface microcircuits of communication protocols, non-volatile memory, which will provide the functionality of metering devices in terms of monitoring electricity consumption, remote transmission of meter data to power engineers, as well as remote monitoring of voltage availability at the consumer.

GS Group has already mastered the competence to produce integrated circuits for metering devices and is ready to establish large-scale production by the 1st quarter of 2021. The annual production of such chips will be about 10 million units.

File:Aquote1.png
Integrated circuits for power meters, which we will launch in the series in early 2021, are an advanced development that allows you to implement all the functionality of the meter in accordance with the requirements of 522 FZ. We have already begun to validate them together with Russian meter manufacturers, "said Andrei Martynov, head of the strategic projects department of GS Group holding.
File:Aquote2.png

The use of electronic components manufactured by GS Group will allow manufacturers of metering devices to implement, as part of existing and promising "smart meters," the functionality necessary to ensure the reliability, reliability and safety of transmitting data on consumed resources, to satisfy existing requirements in terms of localization level.

In accordance with Federal Law No. 522 of 27.12.2018 "On Amending Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation in Connection with the Development of Electric Energy (Power) Accounting Systems in the Russian Federation," in general, up to 80 million smart electric meters are subject to replacement or re-installation in Russia at various facilities. The average cost of a smart electric meter is 4 thousand rubles (with a mass release, cheaper is possible, including due to the growth of the market for domestic components with a guaranteed order). Thus, the entire potential of the market is 320 billion rubles. With a maximum chip cost for a smart electric meter of up to 200 rubles per 1 piece, the maximum market potential of such chips is 16 billion rubles.
