Lomonosov Moscow State University - Faculty of foreign languages and regional studies

The faculty of foreign languages is founded in 1988. The first set of students was performed in 1992. In 2005 the faculty was it is renamed into faculty of foreign languages and regional studies (FIYAIR).

Programs of preparation of all directions provide obligatory studying of two foreign languages (the English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Czech, Serbian, Polish and Bulgarian languages), and the number of hours and quality of teaching are identical on all departments of faculty. Form of education on all directions — internal, day.

Training term for a bachelor degree — 4 years, a specialist programme — 6 years.

At faculty the following problems are solved:

• scientific justification and development of training methods to language as the means of communication between specialists in different fields of knowledge and professional activity;
• functional studying of languages and their use in the different social directions: to science, economy, social and political activity, culture, etc.;
• studying of languages on a wide background of social, cultural, political life of the people speaking these languages, i.e. in close connection with the world of the learned languages;
• development of the model of training of teachers of foreign languages, translators, culturologists, the international and cross-cultural communication specialists, experts in those regions conforming to modern requirements in which the learned languages are used as the means of communication;
• complex studying of regions of the world, groups of the countries and certain states: their population, stories and ethnographies, economies and politicians, sciences and cultures, religion, language and literature, tradition and values;
• studying of problems of mutual perception of culture, interaction and interference of Russia and the world, national characters and mentalities, the Russian world in the context of world civilizations, traditions of everyday life of the different countries and regions (stories and the present).

Directions

For 2020 the faculty conducts set on four directions of a bachelor degree and one direction of a specialist programme.

Foreign Regional Studies direction (bachelor degree). Training in the direction is conducted within two profiles: "American researches" and "European researches". Entrance tests: The USE — a foreign language, history, Russian; additional entrance test — a foreign language.

Linguistics direction (bachelor degree). Training in the direction is conducted within two profiles: "Theory and technique teaching foreign languages" and "Cross-cultural communication". Entrance tests: The USE — a foreign language, history, Russian; additional entrance test — a foreign language.

Regional Studies of Russia direction (bachelor degree). Entrance tests: The USE — a foreign language, history, Russian language; additional entrance test — a foreign language.

Cultural science direction (bachelor degree). Entrance tests: The USE — a foreign language, social science, Russian; additional entrance test — a foreign language.

Specialty "Transfer and Theory of Translation" (specialist programme). Entrance tests: The USE — a foreign language, history, Russian; additional entrance test — a foreign language.

Magistracy

Occupations in a magistracy are based on individual approach to needs of pupils. Training term — 2 years. Form of education is internal, day. For 2020 preparation is conducted in several directions.

"Linguistics". Within the direction the master programs focused on entrants as with profile are open and non-core education. Entrance tests are carried out in the form of written examination in linguistics in a foreign language.

Master programs for entrants with profile education:

• "Linguo-didactic bases of teaching foreign languages and cultures";
• "Foreign language and cross-cultural communication in policy and diplomacy";
• "Management in the field of language education";
• "Language of professional communication in the field of management";
• "Transfer in the international organizations";
• "The Russian and French languages and cultures" (for foreign citizens).

Master programs for entrants with non-core education:

• "Theory of training in foreign languages and cross-cultural communication";
• "Translation theory and cross-cultural communication";
• "Theory of communication and international relations with the public (PR)";
• "Comparative studying of cultures and cross-cultural communication";
• "Russian" (for foreign citizens).

"Regional studies of Russia".

Within the direction the master programs "Russia in Modern World Space" for entrants with profile education and the master program "Russian History and Culture" for foreign entrants are open. Entrance tests are carried out in the form of written examination in regional studies of Russia in Russian. "Cultural science". Within the direction the master program "Komparativny researches of cultural heritage is open (Comparative Heritage Studies)". Entrance tests are carried out in the form of written examination in cultural science in the Russian and English languages.

"Foreign regional studies".

Within the direction the master programs "Sociocultural Regional Studies of the Countries and Regions of the World" and "Technologies of Creation of Positive Image of Regions" are open. Entrance tests are carried out in the form of written examination in foreign regional studies in Russian.

Also set in an intramural and extramural (evening) magistracy in the Linguistics direction is conducted. The following master programs are offered:

• "Theory of communication and international relations with the public (PR)",
• "Theory of training and cross-cultural communication",
• "Translation theory and cross-cultural communication".

Postgraduate study

The postgraduate study at faculty of foreign languages and regional studies was open in 1990. In 2020 acceptance is conducted on to the following specialties:

• German languages,
• Romance languages,
• comparative-historical, typological and comparative linguistics,
• theory and technique of training and education (foreign languages),
• theory and cultural history.

Training in a postgraduate study is made both on budget, and on a contractual basis. Forms and terms of training: internal — 3 years; correspondence — 4 years.

Additional education

The faculty gives ample opportunities of additional education. In 2020 at faculty programs of occupational retraining successfully work with assignment of new qualification Translator and Teacher:

• "The translator in the field of professional communication" (2 years, form of education — evening),
• "Teacher: modern approaches to training in foreign languages" (2 years, form of education — remote);

the programs of occupational retraining granting the right of conducting activity in the new sphere:

• "Applied regional studies. History and traditions of gastronomic culture of regions of the world" (1 year, form of education — intramural and extramural),
• "Teaching Russian in foreign audience" (1.5 years, form of education — internal),
• "Teaching foreign languages and the latest technologies" (1 year, form of education — remote),
• "Teoretiko-pragmatichesky bases of teaching foreign (English) language: modern approaches" (1 year, form of education — remote).

Short-term remote professional development course are also organized:

• "Information and communication technologies in a lingvodidaktika: theory and practice",
• "Integration of mobile technologies into teaching foreign languages",
• "Interactive technologies in training in foreign languages",
• "Design of web programs for training in foreign languages",
• "Teaching Russian as foreign",
• "Design of the electronic training resources on foreign languages",
• "Digital technologies for preparation for the USE for English",
• "Technique of training in foreign languages: communicative approach".

Programs for foreign citizens

The faculty offers various programs for foreign citizens: programs of receiving higher education, training, Russian rates as foreign.

Training courses for arriving

For entrants training internal (evening) and remote courses of different duration work at faculty. Occupations on rates allow entrants to be prepared successfully for the Unified state examination, for the Olympic Games and entrance tests on such all-humanitarian disciplines as a foreign language (English, French, German, Spanish), Russian, literature, social science and the history of Russia. At the choice of the listener preparation on one, two, three or four disciplines is possible.

To give the chance to school students to get acquainted with faculty closer, to learn more about the offered professions, on faculty Schools of young specialists work:

• MKK school,
• School of the young area studies specialist,
• Schools of the young italyanist, ispanist, anglist, germanist, Slavist,
• School of the young culturologist.

Classes at schools are 1–2 times a month (depending on the selected direction). Occupations are free, are held in the evening.
