2024
Russian court recovered ₽292 million from Siemens for refusing to supply electronics for trains
The Arbitration Court of the Sverdlovsk Region in December 2024 decided to recover ₽292 million from Siemens Mobility LLC in favor of Ural Locomotives LLC for unilateral refusal to supply and guarantee maintenance of equipment for freight electric locomotives 2ES10 Granit.
According to Interfax, the court also ordered the company to continue supplying sets of equipment for electric locomotives and fulfill all obligations stipulated by the agreement of June 17, 2010. The penalty will be charged from March 19, 2024 in the amount of 0.02% per day until the actual fulfillment of obligations, but not more than 15% of the set price and 20% of the contract price in the aggregate.
The trial began at the end of 2023 after Siemens Mobility's lawsuit against Ural Locomotives to recover ₽105,34 million for late payment. In March 2024, the Ural enterprise filed a counterclaim for ₽312,22 million. By a court decision of December 16, 2024, the initial claims in the amount of ₽20,261 million and counterclaims in the amount of ₽312 million were satisfied, followed by a procedural set-off.

Account blocking in Russia
The Federal Tax Service (FTS) of Russia blocked operations on the accounts of Siemens Mobility LLC, a subsidiary of the German conglomerate Siemens. The blocking of accounts took place on October 10, 2024.

The Arbitration Court of the Central District overturned the decision of the lower instances in one of the claims in the amount of ₽122,9 million and sent the case for a new trial.
The RIF Corporation argued its position with force majeure circumstances associated with the impossibility of supplying components from Germany due to sanctions. The general director of the corporation, Alexander Ivanov, appealed to the chairman of the 20th Arbitration Court of Appeal with a request to take these circumstances into account, pointing out the possible risks to the fulfillment of the state defense order.
The situation is complicated by the fact that Siemens ceased its activities in Russia in 2022. Until that moment, the German concern actively collaborated with Russian Railways, supplying, in particular, the Sapsan and Lastochka trains. [2]
