Vertex.AI — the startup founded in 2015 offering tools by means of which developers can add algorithms of deep learning to the software. The company develops open the PlaidML engine by means of which programmers can unroll models AI on devices with operating systems Linux, macOS and Windows with support of the compiler for systems machine learning nGraph. By August, 2018 in Vertex.AI only seven people worked.

2018: Intel purchased Vertex.AI
In August, 2018 the Intel corporation announced acquisition of Vertex.AI. The cost and other terms of agreement of the company did not open. After accomplishment of all formalities concerning sale of Vertex.AI, the startup will join the Movidius project within division of Intel Artificial Intelligence Products Group.
Thanks to this purchase Intel received a pilot command and intellectual property which will allow to increase flexibility of deep learning — said in Intel. |
The processor giant intends will continue development of PlaidML and to translate it under the license Apache 2.0.
Merger of Vertex.AI the Intel corporation took the next step on the way of strengthening of positions in the world market of artificial intelligence technologies which volume is estimated at $200 billion. For building of a share here and development of new products of Intel actively buys up developer AI. So, such companies as eASIC were purchased earlier, Mobileye, Movidius and Nervana Systems, whose technologies are based AI tools.
Speaking at the Intel Data Centric Innovation Summit 2018 conference in August the executive vice president of the company Navin Shena (Navin Shenoy) said that the company controls 20% of global market of AI. He also noted that the strategy of the chipmaker is in that "bring closer a new era of technologies of data centers", using artificial intelligence.[1]
