The most part of means the European investors offered, in particular, Finnish Industry Investment Limited and Open Ocean Capital located in Finland and also Spintop Ventures. As one more key donor of means OnCorps performed with the headquarters in Massachusetts, the USA which in every possible way supported SkySQL from the moment of the beginning of activity in October, 2010. The company integrates the investors and consultants pursuing the purpose promoting of big-budget technologies and solutions. According to Bob Sukh (Bob Suh), one of participants of community OnCorps, taking into account growth of the market of DBMS and cloud services, the made investments of capital will bring return soon.

SkySQL founded by the MySQL developers who left Oracle is traditionally focused on solutions DBMS open source of MySQL and MariaDB for large enterprises and consumers of cloud services. The company is going to spend the received funds for development of new industrial assemblies of DBMS and introduction to an organization structure of a number of additional key positions (what it is not reported). Ulf Sandberg, in the past the vice president for providing global services MySQL, and now the permanent head of SkySQL reported about it.

Along with building of a solution portfolio in the field of DBMS and the accompanying cloud services of SkySQL will continue to render a full range of technical support services. Their number includes the help in problem solving, consultation on setup, elimination of effects of failures. Consulting services besides assume planning of implementations of projects and carrying out optimization of the existing systems.

2015: Runa Capital invested 3 million euros in the developer of cult DBMS

The Runa Capital fund of Sergey Belousov announced in February, 2015 the investment into the Finnish company MariaDB made by it. Investment volume was 3 million euros[1].

Investment of Runa Capital it was announced at the end of February, 2015, however, representatives of the company in a conversation with CNews ranked it as an investment round B MariaDB companies, to a past in October, 2013. According to representatives of fund, the management of MariaDB in 2013 reserved for Runa the place in a bullet of investors waiting when the Runa Capital II fund which began to be filled in the summer of 2014 is created.

Explaining it, the fund referred to old personal acquaintances of heads of Runa Capital of Dmitry Chikhachev, Sergey Belousov, etc. with the founder of MariaDB Michael Videnius (Michael "Monty" Widenius). Videnius works as the adviser in Jelastic, one of Runa Capital portfolio companies.

If to refer the current investment of Runa Capital to October 2013 to a round of financing of MariaDB, then the consortium as a part of Intel Capital, Spintop Ventures, Open Ocean, Finnish Industry Investment and California Technology Ventures became her co-investors. Their cumulative contribution to MariaDB then made $20 million. To this MariaDB received $6.5 million from Open Ocean, Finnish Industry Investment and California Technology Ventures in the spring of 2012 and $2 million sowing campaigns in 2010.

It agrees[2] conducted in January, 2014[3] among users of Jelastic cloud, MariaDB uses 18% of developers. On the first place there is MySQL with result of 58%. Recently conducted survey among users of the forum LinuxQuestions showed[4]that MariaDB is the most popular DBMS in the environment of Open Source.
