Arrays on a flash memory have the high performance necessary in the analysis of large volumes of data, support of infrastructure of virtual desktops and other tasks, but their cost so far is high too, and in the nearest future they will not be able to force out traditional disk arrays, analysts believe.
EMC is engaged several years in release of arrays with solid state drives (the versions of arrays of VMAX and VNX which are completely based on a flash memory are offered), and recently began sale a flash cards with the PCIe interface and prepared for release Project Thunder array about a flash memory on the PCIe cards.
The startup of XtremIO was founded in 2009. The main feature of arrays of XtremIO — a scalable cluster architecture thanks to which the volume of an array can be increased as required. EMC highly appreciate perspectives of XtremIO technologies, though do not report, how exactly they will be used in products of the company.
