Without excess noise of Dell purchased RNA Networks company, one of the few innovation startups begun few years ago to bring together several 64-bit servers and to provide thereby an image of the uniform server for specific workloads.

Itself of Dell did not make the official statement about acquisition, but the website RNK Networks published the official statement last Friday: "Considering wishes of customers, RNA Networks Inc is purchased by Dell Inc corporation and now will provide delivery of the innovative technologies and services creating much bigger capacities for customer needs".

Yet did not wish to announce Dell anything this acquisition any more. "RNA Networks have excellent technologies of virtualization of memory which Dell will use in the future offers", said in the statement of Dell to the The Register edition.

The representative of Dell confirmed completion of the transaction and noted that Dell does not open either terms of agreement, or terms of offers of specific products using the intellectual property of RNA Networks. It is clear, however, that there are many places where Dell can use the software of RNA Networks in the systems, storages and network products.

And here it is about the moment when Dell determined by the strategy of the future difficult technology of a clustering of servers. And to provide this basic functionality, it was necessary to reduce dependence on partners.

RNA Networks

Founded RNA Networks in 2006 of Randzhit the Pundit (Ranjit Pandit) who directed the project of a clustering of the database in SilverStorm Technologies (eaten afterwards by QLogic company), working in InfiniBand interconnect and over the Pentium 4 chip worked for Intel so far.

As a part of the company technicians from producer company of the Cray supercomputers, the producer of chips - Intel, the bus adapter – QLogic, technology of web caching - Akamai. All of them are experts in technologies of caching, system connections and direct remote access to memory (RDMA).

In February, 2009 RNA Networks left the invisibilities mode with technology of virtualization of servers which does not divide the physical server into several virtual machines. Instead it integrates several servers and "sticks together" their processors and memory in uniform, for the started applications, a virtual image, just as they are started on big and expensive SMP and NUMA servers. It is quite easy to create a hypervisor of virtualization of the server, but it is difficult to create high-speed network and virtualization.

The technologies implemented by the company are suitable for a number of the finance and scientific applications using messaging protocols.

RNAmessenger is the first product of the company, will unroll on the 32-bit or 64-bit equipment, and works on processors Sparc, Power (including on the nonexistent Cell chip), x86, x64 and Itanium. This software allows to increase coefficient of performance of workloads from 10 to 30 times and scaling of calculations to hundreds of nodes and several RAM terabyte.
