2020: Official announcement

In the middle of July, 2020 provided to BMW the first in the model range electrocrossover. The presentation of BMW iX3 took place within the Beijing motor show. It is noted that innovation is developed on the same architecture, as the production X3 crossover, i.e. on the CLAR platform.

As the producer claims, the power of an electric motor is 272 horsepowers, and the capacity of battery pack 70 kvtch. Without recharge the electrocrossover will be able to pass up to 400 km. Maximum speed of the machine is not specified.

Under a cowl of BMW iX3 the eDrive BMW technology of fifth generation disappears. It includes the newest technologies of the engine, accumulator and electronics what the company can only offer, declared in BMW. The producer noted that the electric motor, transmission, electronic components and accumulators are located in one separate body, and the engine does without use of magnets, i.e. by its production rare-earth materials are not required. While these components work at technologies of the BMW i family, however by the time of a release of the serial version the company promises to transfer the platform of the crossover to the updated BMW iNext transmission which should provide by 2021.

Provided to BMW the first electrocrossover

Power of this engine is 30% higher, than at any of earlier existing BMW Group engines, at the same time its efficiency is 93% higher. The battery from 188 prismatic elements is attached to it. The battery supports charging on the 150 kW high-speed charging complexes, and it will be possible to load the car from 0 to 80% at such station in only 30 minutes.

The electric vehicle BMW iX3 also received the updated radiator grille with a blue fringing of BMW i, characteristic of models of the BMW i family. According to developers, the closed construction of a radiator improves aerodynamic characteristics of the crossover.[1]

2018: Beginning of acceptance of preorders

At the beginning of September, 2018 the German company BMW began to take preorders on purchase of the electric iX3 crossover which serial production starts only in a couple of years.

Residents of Norway can make for 15 thousand kroner (about $1800) a reservation in queue on acquisition of BMW iX3. And this electric car at the time of a design of a reserve is only at a stage of a pre-series concept.

The car maker is going to equip the 272 horsepowers machine with the electrical power unit and the block of rechargeable batteries on 70 kilowatt-hours. The stock of the course of the electrocrossover will make 400 km (on the world riding cycle WLTP), and thanks to connection to powerful 150-kilowatt charging stations it will be possible to fill batteries with energy from 0% to 100% all for half an hour.

The BMW iX3 crossover is delivered on "cart" from BMW X3

The platform for iX3 is taken from standard "SUV" BMW X3, but for the electric vehicle created the special back stretcher and finished construction of the chassis. The exterior of BMW iX3 differs from modification with the internal combustion engine in the changed radiator grid and the improved rims.

BMW began to take orders for the electric iX3 crossover

The power unit received the eDrive block integrating an electric motor in the compact body (which contains no rare-earth elements), the transmission and electronic components and also accumulators with more high density of storage of a charge.

Norwegians can get in line for BMW iX3, having paid about $1800

Mass production of BMW iX3 will be organized in 2020 in China from where the machine will be supplied to other markets. It is supposed that the crossover will compete with Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi e-tron. The last began to be produced in lots in September, 2018. The price of BMW iX3 is not set.

BMW iX3 will be able to be loaded in only 30 minutes

According to "road map" of BMW by 2025 25 new hybrid and completely electric cars will be released. iX3 is included into number 12 of "net" electric cars from the Bavarian concern.[2]
