2020: The announcement of sets of eCrate for re-equipment of a car with normal engines in electric vehicles

At the beginning of November, 2020 the Chevrolet company provided sets for re-equipment of DVS-cars to electric vehicles. The project received the name eCrate, from the second half of 2021 everyone will be able to purchase innovation.

As an example of re-equipment of the vehicle using eCrate engineers of division of Chevrolet Performance provided the Chevrolet K5 Blazer SUV of 1977. Within upgrade engineers replaced the 6.5-liter V8 engine with a power of 175 horsepowers with the electric motor with a power of 200 horsepowers and a torsional moment of 360 Nanometers.

The car maker stated that about 90% of the new components installed in the upgraded Blazer are factory components of Bolt EV. The engine, the battery on 60 kW is borrowed from Bolt · h which the command set in a cargo compartment of the car. Thanks to industrial controllers and wire bundles the Chevrolet command implemented such function as recuperative braking in Blazer. According to the company, engineers managed to save the rest of transmission of Blazer, including the driveshaft, the transfer case and axes.

The set of eCrate will offer users electric motors of different power and batteries of different volume. There will be an opportunity to purchase the system of recuperative braking (recharge when braking), protection against a recharge and also a control system of temperature of batteries, etc. In the future the company is going to complement sets with new modular Ultium batteries. Cost meanwhile is not reported by a set for re-equipment of cars.

Chevrolet started certification of the dealer centers and companies of an after-sale service which will be able to render further to owners of cars of service in upgrade of a car using eCrate.[1]
