Amazon buys 1800 electric Mercedes-Benz vans

On August 28, 2020 announced Amazon purchase of 1800 electric Mercedes-Benz vans to use them in the goods delivery. It is about the largest order of electric transport at the German car maker.

On terms of the contract, Mercedes-Benz Amazon delivered about 1200 large-size eSprinter vans and 600 copies of less large eVito model. 800 of the ordered machines will go on roads of Germany. The second largest batch — 500 machines — will be shipped to Great Britain. The financial component of the agreement does not reveal.

According to Amazon, the majority of electric cars will enter service until the end of 2020. At the request of the western media in the company refrained from more informative comments.

The panel Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans are equipped with a folding roof, the complete mass of the vehicle is 3500 kg, and they will be able to transport up to 891 kg. The car received the rechargeable battery on 47 kWh which provides a course stock in 168 km. The accumulator feeds the electric motor installed on front wheels. Its power will be 114 hp.

Cooperation of Amazon and Mercedes-Benz also assumes participation of the last company in an ecological initiative of Climate Pledge  which the American online retailer started in 2019. Participants of an initiative are going to come for zero emissions by 2040, expecting to achieve thus the goals of the Parisian climatic agreement for ten years before term. In the statement  of Mercedes-Benz published in August 28, 2020 it is said that the company estimates so far how to neutralize emissions of carbon at the enterprises.

In the park of the express Amazon cars there are already electric cars. Among them — vans of Rivian company for which Amazon decided to spend hundreds of millions dollars.[1]
