2023: Market growth in the second quarter by 78% to 374 thousand units

The volume of the Russian market with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in the second quarter of 2023 reached 374 thousand units, an increase of a record 78% compared to the same period in 2022. In monetary terms, equipment sales increased by 45.6% and amounted to $94.1 million. This is evidenced by the data of ITResearch analysts, published in August 2023.

The different dynamics of piece and cash indicators is due to the fact that the recovery of the market first of all took place in the mass segment. The balance of power in the market has also changed: the "grandees" (with their traditionally high prices) were replaced by Russian and Chinese manufacturers, the study notes.

The volume of the Russian market with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) reached 374 thousand.

In general, analysts attribute the sharp growth of the market to the fact that the comparison is with the low indicators of 2022. In addition, deferred demand and improved supply, as well as a more active waste of budget money (state-owned companies did not postpone purchases, as usual, at the end of the year) shifted sales to the first half of 2023.

The market is definitely growing, and this is due not only to the increase in production capacities of manufacturers, but also to changes in consumer habits and preferences towards sufficient functionality of sufficient and appearance, "Vladimir Bondarenko, business development manager at DiSi Engineering LLC, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta. - Most ordinary consumers give, oddly enough, a lot of attention to design. The functionality usually requires: a wider range of input voltages when operating from the network without switching to operation from the UPS, a larger number of output interfaces for connecting consumers, lower overall characteristics while maintaining power and higher efficiency values.[1]

2022:17% market decline, to 1.13 million units

The volume of the Russian uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market in 2022 amounted to 1.13 million units, having decreased by 17% compared to the previous year. Sales of devices in monetary terms decreased by 14%, to $312 million. ITResearch analysts released such data in February 2023.

Integrally, 2022 turned out to be not as bad as previously imagined... Much less than everyone imagined in the spring, when the sanctions processes began, the researchers write.

UPS market volume in Russia in 2022 amounted to 1.13 million units

According to them, in 2022, many large foreign manufacturers left the Russian UPS market, including Schneider Electric, Eaton, ABB, Legrand and Vertiv. Also, a number of serious manufacturers, without formally leaving the market, "went underground." But they were actively replaced by new, primarily Russian manufacturers. According to ITResearch analysts, the share of equipment produced domestically (at least with a certificate) by the end of 2022 has already approached 15% in money.

Ippon became the largest manufacturer of UPS in the Russian market in 2022. It is followed by APC by Schneider Electric thanks to the serious groundwork of the first months of the year, followed by the CyberPower and Powercom brands. According to experts, during the year the competition intensity index (Gerfindal, the sum of squares of market shares of players) decreased from 0.11 to 0.069. This is direct evidence of the collapse of the former monopolist and the transition of the market to a state of super-intense competition, they explained.

Analysts said that by the end of 2022, the Russian UPS market began to recover. According to ITResearch, during the fourth quarter of 2022, UPS sales in Russia amounted to about 400 thousand units worth about $109 million. Compared to the previous quarter, the market grew by 25% in quantitative terms and by 45% in monetary terms. The significant growth of the market is explained by the fact that at the end of 2022 the situation with the replacement of the products of the largest vendors, which mainly worked in the infrastructure segment and left Russia due to sanctions, improved, the study says.

ITResearch also draws attention to the fact that in April-June 2022, 210 thousand were sold on the Russian market. UPS worth $64.5 million Compared to the previous three months, sales were up 5% in pieces and 2.5% in money. The researchers called this result "fantastic," given the departure of many vendors. But, according to analysts, such indicators did not come as a surprise, since the UPS market is largely design, so the devices themselves were produced quite a long time ago, continued to go and drive, and be supplied to customers.

In total, 410 thousand were sold in Russia in the first half of 2022. UPS worth $127 million The dynamics on an annualized basis amounted to minus 19% in units and minus 13% in physical terms. Despite the departure of a number of UPS market leaders, the process of replacing them is easier than in other industries. It is impossible to reliably calculate the share of "purely Russian" UPSs, since even local brands do not have the entire assortment already produced in the Russian Federation.

ITResearch believes that by 2022 only about 7-8% of devices sold are of Russian origin, but this is clearly more than in 2021. But the greatest beneficiaries of what happened were Chinese brands, which turned out to be in demand more than ever, and at the same time for the most part did not have problems with supplies, experts added.[2]

2018

The Russian uninterruptible power supply market showed slight growth: in 2018, 1,235,672 UPSs were sold in Russia, which is 9% more than in 2017. In money, growth was 3.4%, reaching $258.9 million, according to IDC research.

2016

According to the analytical publication IT-Research, a total of 1.08 million uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) were sold on the Russian UPS market for a total of $292.6 million . Which corresponds to an annual increase of 4.5% in physical terms and 9.2% in monetary terms.

According to analysts, among the product segments of UPS, the most noticeable growth in the Russian market is demonstrated by two: linear-interactive and online models. At the same time, sales of linear-interactive devices are growing in pieces, but practically do not change in money, which indicates an increase in the share of deliveries of cheaper models. On the other hand, online UPSs show an increase in both the monetary and the number of delivered units of goods. Despite the fact that the supply of online models in pieces is growing at a faster pace than in money, in dollar terms, the sale of this category of devices on the Russian market has exceeded 50%, making this direction one of the most important for manufacturers and their partners.

A small positive trend in 2015 was noted in the Russian market and in the segment of SMART devices, which include linear-interactive UPS with a pure output voltage sinusoid.

2013

According to ITResearch, in just 2013, 1.95 million UPSs worth $503.6 million were sold on the Russian market. The annual dynamics was -17% in pieces and -9% in money. The discrepancy in the dynamics of natural and monetary indicators is due to the outstripping growth in sales of "heavy" devices. In general, the results of 2013 turned out to be significantly worse than analysts' forecasts.

The top five market leaders in general include companies Delta Electronics Eaton IPPON Powercom Schneider Electric that control almost 80% of the market in money. The company is also noticeable on the mass market. In the CyberPower (Cyber Power Systems) market of infrastructure solutions, it can also be noted. Emerson General Electric

2012

The growth of the UPS market in 2012 was 8%, which is significantly lower than the relative indicator last year - in 2011 the growth was 13%, and in 2010 - 26%. The main reason for the slowdown in the overall growth of the market, experts call a sharp decline in sales in the field of personal UPS (<1 кВА), который вырос за 2012 год всего на 5%. Для сравнения — в 2010–11 гг. рост этого сегмента составил вдвое больше — 10%.

According to the results of the IDC analytical report, Schneider Electric retained its leading position in 2012, taking 53% of the Russian UPS market. This is more than the share of all other producers in total, and 1% higher compared to 2011.

2011

According to IDC, the Russian uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market grew by 19% in 2011. At the same time, experts did not note any fundamental changes in the market structure. Among the powerful three-phase UPSs, according to IDC, the UPS segment with a capacity of more than 100 kV • A increased faster than others. In 2011, it accounted for 13% of the total Russian UPS market.

2010

In the pre-crisis years, the Russian market UPS developed significantly faster than the entire IT market, but in 2009 it was among the most affected by the crisis. Then, according to analysts, ITResearch it rolled back to the level of 2004, falling by more than 40% both in pieces and in money. But last year, the UPS market, like some other markets largely focused on the corporate segment, recovered at a faster pace.

Uninterruptible power supply sales grew steadily throughout 2010, and the recovery rate did not decrease until the end of 2010.

According to ITResearch, 385 thousand were sold in the first quarter of 2010. UPS for $67 million The indicators of the same quarter of 2009 were exceeded by 26% in pieces and by 27% in money. According to analysts, an almost synchronous increase in natural and monetary indicators at the beginning of the year indicated a proportionate growth of the market in both the mass and infrastructure segments.

In the second quarter, 400 thousand were sold. UPS, which is 37% more than in the same quarter of 2009. In monetary terms, the growth was even more significant - 50%. As ITResearch analysts noted, "unlike other markets, in the UPS market, the seasonal factor showed an excess of the levels of the second quarter over the first, which is largely due to the activation of the tender market, traditionally weak at the beginning of the year." Deferred demand for infrastructure solutions began to be realized. In the second quarter, a sharp increase in sales of online solutions was recorded, which was reflected in the weighted average price of devices sold - it increased to $ 204 (in the first quarter - $ 174).

Similar trends were observed in the third quarter, during which 550 thousand were sold. UPS. This is 34% more than in the same quarter of 2009, and in monetary terms the market grew by 50.7%.

According to ITResearch, the IV quarter of last year turned out to be very successful. More than 730 thousand were sold. UPS over $163 million Compared to the same quarter of 2009, the market grew by 27.5% in pieces and 62.4% in money.

In total, according to ITResearch, more than 2.1 million were sold in 2010. UPS worth about $430 million, for the year the market added 33% in pieces and 53% in money.

Analyst firm IDC gives more modest estimates. "The volume of the Russian UPS market in 2010 amounted to about $380 million," said Ismail Belov, a leading analyst at IDC in Russia and the CIS. "This means that sales of'uninterruptible' equaled the level of 2007 and exceeded the level of 2009 by almost a quarter ($305 million), but have not yet reached the level of 2008 (about $395 million)." According to IDC, approximately 1.9 million pieces of equipment were delivered to Russia in 2010.

Differences in IDC and ITResearch estimates appear to be influenced by the specifics of analysis and calculation techniques.
