Kryptonit NPK will lead the development of post-quantum cryptography standards in Russia

The heads of the cryptography laboratory of the Kryptonit NPK will develop draft national standards of the Russian Federation that define post-quantum mechanisms for cryptographic information protection. The decision was made at a meeting of the technical committee for standardization "Cryptographic Information Protection" (TK 26), the Kryptonit NPK reported on November 19, 2019.

File:Aquote1.png
The creation of the working group will allow us to lead the process of developing and standardizing new cryptographic primitives and protocols that are resistant to attacks using a quantum computer. NPK Kryptonit takes on the role of a leader in the development of this promising direction on a national scale, - said Vasily Shishkin, head of the cryptography laboratory at NPK Kryptonit.
File:Aquote2.png

As noted in the Kryptonite NPK, the relevance of post-quantum cryptography is greater than ever. The last decade has been marked by a lot of research in the field of building quantum computers - special computers that use quantum mechanical phenomena to solve mathematical problems that are complex or insoluble for ordinary computers. So, in 2018, Google announced the creation of a quantum computer consisting of 72 qubits. [Intel] has completed the development of a quantum computer containing 49 superconducting quantum qubits, which increase the reliability of storing and processing quantum information. A number of experts talk about the appearance in the next decade of a quantum computer capable of solving real computing, including cryptographic problems. Under these conditions, the importance of cryptographic data protection becomes decisive on a state scale, according to the Kryptonit NPK.

Creating any modern cryptographic infrastructure takes a considerable amount of time. Therefore, regardless of the exact time of the onset of the era of quantum computers, it is already necessary to start preparing all Russian information security systems for it, "says Vasily Shishkin, head of the cryptography laboratory at Kryptonit NPK.

Also, at a meeting of TK 26, work was launched on the development of national standards in the field of requirements and methods for testing security services for radio communication interfaces and cryptographic sets in automatic identification and data collection (RFID) technologies. Work in this area will be coordinated by employees of the Kryptonit NPK. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) describes methods for contactless automatic identification and authentication of objects in which data can be exchanged, including in secure mode.

Among the key areas of activity of the Kryptonit NPK are cryptography and quantum computing, machine learning and neural networks, network information security, and the development of new standards for the telecommunications industry. In turn, the Avtomatika concern has research competencies in the field of communications and information security. Combining efforts, confident in companies, will make it possible to produce new demanded products. The directions of development will be jointly determined by the parties.

General Director of NPK Kryptonit Vartan Khachaturov noted that the NPK faces ambitious tasks that are already being solved by the efforts of talented young scientists and developers.

File:Aquote1.png
In fact, this is a project unique to our market, in which four laboratories in key areas have been formed since launch, and in the near future we will launch two more. Partnership with Rostec, which has a powerful technological base, will allow us to become the main research center not only in Russia, but also in demand in the international market of information and communication technologies, he said.

NPK Kryptonit will be located on the territory of the Avtomatika concern. As part of the project, the first Russian Museum of Cryptography and Computer Engineering will also be created on the site. It will open doors to visitors in May 2021.

2018

Creation of JV

Concern "Automatics" of the state corporation "Rostec" and the company "Citadel" announced in July 2018 the creation of a joint venture, which will promote military developments in the field of information technology to the commercial market.

Rostec and Citadel create a joint venture to commercialize military developments in IT

Joint investments in the research and production company Kryptonit will amount to more than 4 billion rubles. The main areas of the company's activity will be cryptography, quantum computing, machine learning, big data storage, security of solutions based on blockchain technologies, telecommunications standards and their security.

The main task of the new enterprise will be to attract investments to commercialize innovative solutions and technologies, created enterprises and research institutes, defense industries. In addition, NPK will deal with its own developments in the field of information security.

As noted by Kommersant[2]the partners do not disclose the distribution of their shares[3] joint venture, since all the procedures for its creation have not been completed. Kryptonit LLC was registered in March, 100% of this company belongs to the founder of the Citadel Anton Cherepennikov. In turn, the Citadel, according to Kommersant's information, is considered the largest manufacturer of equipment for providing operational-search measures (SORM) and IT solutions for information security.

The new company will be based on the territory of the Avtomatika concern. An agreement has already been reached on the complete reconstruction of part of the concern's premises in Moscow to create a modern working space on their basis, which includes a constantly operating exposition of domestic products and technologies, Rostec reported. At the same time, the reconstruction may last a year and a half.

File:Aquote1.png
Obviously, Russian military developments in the field of information security have great potential for use in the field of education. The creation of a joint venture is an excellent example of public-private partnership, consolidation of efforts to increase synergy both by entering new areas of activity and developing market competencies, and by introducing the accumulated defense industry of Russia scientific and technical potential in the IT industry, "said Sergey Sakhnenko, director of the Rostec radio electronic cluster.
File:Aquote2.png

The director of the IT outsourcing ALP Group Dmitry Bessoltsev department told Kommersant that the deal is beneficial to both parties: Rostec acquires the competence of the manufacturer of SORM equipment and information security solutions, which it does not have, and Citadel acquires the lobbying and financial resources of the state corporation. Some developments for the defense sector may be stripped of secrecy today; they will enter the open market and will be used in civil sectors of the economy, the CEO believes. IVC Grigory Sizonenko

The products of the joint venture are likely to be in demand in connection with the implementation of the requirements of the "Spring Law," with the digitalization of the economy, import substitution and with the country's course to control and protect information, Dmitry Bessoltsev said.

In July 2018, it was also announced the creation of the Kryptonit investment company of the same name, which is engaged in the search and investment in new promising IT projects in Russia.

The requirements for the protection of critical information infrastructures that have appeared this year create a new segment of the market, where the path is ordered to Western vendors and where Rostec products can have very good prospects, agrees Andrey Yankin, deputy director of the Jet Infosystems information security center. According to him, Kryptonite's export offer is unlikely to be oriented towards the West, but there are a number of countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, where stories about "Russian hackers" are not horror stories, but rather excellent advertising for Russian military technologies in the field of information security, at least for representatives of the public sector.
