The municipal unitary enterprise of the city of Novosibirsk "Novosibirsk Metro" is engaged in the operation of a high-speed rail transport system, the staff consists of 1,578 people. Passenger traffic in the Novosibirsk metro in 2023 increased by 9.4% and amounted to 84.52 million people. This data became known in October 2024.
At the end of 2022, passenger traffic in the city's metro amounted to 77.3 million people, a year earlier 75.3 million people. During the period of restrictions imposed against the backdrop of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, in 2020 the number of passengers decreased to 58.1 million people. On average, over the past 10 years, 82 million passengers a year were transported by the metro, the city administration reported in January 2024.

2024: Approval of the general development scheme. Construction will take ₽100 billion
On November 7, 2024, it became known that the Novosibirsk administration presented a strategic plan for the modernization of the urban underground transport system until 2030, requiring an investment of ₽100 billion at 2024 prices. The urban planning document covers the comprehensive expansion of the transport infrastructure of the metropolis.
According to RBC, the concept provides for a significant expansion of the Dzerzhinsky direction with the commissioning of the Gusinobrodskaya, Molodezhnaya transport hubs and the Volochaevskaya technical complex. The Leninsky route will be supplemented with the objects "Stanislavsky Square," "Trolleinaya," as well as the terminal "Severnaya" behind the existing station "Zaeltsovskaya."
Investments in the development of technical documentation of the Dzerzhinsky site are estimated at ₽2,3 billion. The budgetary distribution for the project stage of 2024-2025 is ₽600 million, where ₽540 million will come from the regional treasury, and ₽60 million from municipal funds.
Municipal authorities are considering making adjustments to the general scheme of underground transport in 2025. The revision may affect the engineering parameters and the time frame for the implementation of individual project components.
According to the publication, the modernization of the transport system is aimed at optimizing passenger flows between actively developing territories and the business center of the city. The introduction of additional routes will create alternative travel options for citizens.
The strategy implies consistent implementation, taking into account urban development priorities. Particular emphasis is placed on synchronizing new facilities with the existing transport network and ensuring technological compatibility of infrastructure elements.[1]
