2021: Launch of AI technology cluster in Novosibirsk region
In early June 2021, MTS and the government of the Novosibirsk region entered into an agreement on the creation of a cluster of artificial intelligence technologies. The project is launched to combine scientists from Novosibirsk State University and the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, specialists from the MTS Artificial Intelligence Center (MTS AI), manufacturers of IT equipment, inventors and entrepreneurial teams.
The joint activity of the cluster members, according to the MTS press service, involves fundamental research on computer vision, natural language processing and peripheral computing.
The basis of the AI cluster will be a branch of MTS AI in Novosibirsk, which will open before the end of 2021. The office's specialists will also carry out practical development of man-machine interfaces and systems for managing smart cities.
According to the head of the MTS Center for Artificial Intelligence, Alexander Khanin, the Novosibirsk Region is one of their key innovative regions of Russia with great potential for conducting scientific and technological developments of world importance. The creation of an AI cluster working on the principle of openness will allow co-operating the capabilities of leading representatives of business and the academic environment, and at the same time will provide the possibility of specialized training for students of Novosibirsk universities, he said.
