2024: Gogym bought Gymmy

On March 11, 2024, it became known that the Gogym fitness project controlled by MTS entered into an agreement on the purchase of a competing service Gymmy. There is no information on the terms and amount of the transaction as of the specified date.

The Gogym platform, launched in 2021, operates on a fitness sharing model. Users through the application can choose from more than 1,000 fitness clubs and sports studios without buying a subscription. To start and finish the workout, it is enough to scan the QR code, and the cost of classes starts at 2 rubles per minute. About 250 thousand people were registered at the Gogym site as of the beginning of March 2024. In turn, the Gymmy service, which has existed since 2019, operates according to a similar scheme. More than 160 thousand users are registered in it.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, after the completion of the deal, the Gymmy brand will leave the market, and the Gogym customer base will grow by more than 40%. This will allow the service to occupy over half of the Russian fitness sharing market.

Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov believes that the cost of Gymmy's business "could theoretically be several tens of millions of rubles." At the same time, Maxim Borovikov, Managing Partner of FitnessData, emphasizes that such projects have a difficult business model: profit is provided if the service cooperates with several hundred gyms and tens of thousands of customers use it per month. Elena Silina, President of the National Fitness Community, notes that fitness clubs, under an agreement with the service, can determine the access time of customers, so popular sites offer the least convenient time to visit. Silina adds that by the beginning of 2024, fitness sharing services in the Russian Federation are popular in large megacities, but in the future they may appear in cities with a population of 500 thousand people.^[1]
