2021: Establishment of a telecom equipment company for import substitution

In mid-April 2021, it became known about the creation of MTS a subsidiary that will produce telecommunications equipment for import substitution. We are talking about MTS Electronics LLC, which, judging by the data of the SPARK-Interfax system, was registered in March.

The authorized capital of the company is 500 million rubles. As its main activity, software development is indicated. The general director of the company is a certain Lev Buchheim.

We within ourselves decided that the word "import substitution," which most businesses perceive as a threat to themselves, should be perceived as an opportunity. The main work of MTS Electronics will be in the field of import substitution. We need a lot of equipment, and we have absolutely clear requirements, for a number of equipment - so that it is localized. The idea is localization, "MTS President Vyacheslav Nikolaev explained to Interfax.

MTS formed a telecom equipment manufacturer for import substitution

The company will develop and manufacture the equipment it needs, including in the radio part, when building fixed communication networks and data storage systems, Nikolaev added.

According to him, in the future, the equipment that MTS Electronics will produce can be supplied to other companies. It is assumed that MTS Electronics will produce equipment not only independently, but also as part of partner projects.

In this segment, everything changes very quickly - and there are different partners and opportunities. Therefore, this is always a combined story, "said Nikolaev.

This is not the first project of import substitution of equipment for MTS. Earlier, the NVision Group system integrator, when it was still controlled by the telecom operator, became a partner of the American Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Chinese Inspur to localize the production of servers and storage systems in Russia.[1]
