History

2023: VimpelCom buys stake in Restik

In mid-November 2023, it became known about VimpelCom's investments in Restik in exchange for 10% in a Russian startup offering a set of cloud services for restaurants and cafes.

According to the Rusprofile website, Haiv LLC (part of the VimpelCom-Communications group) has owned 10% of Restik LLC since November 8, 2023. Details of the deal were not disclosed, but in the spring of 2023, Restik announced the attraction of 30 million rubles from "one major telecom market player." In addition, at the end of June 2023, it was reported that the founder of the Russian restaurant festival and the SysoevFM project, Alexander Sysoev, who invested in the project in 2020, came out of the capital of the startup. He had 0.9% of Restik.

Restik is indeed included in our venture portfolio, but at present there is no activity on mergers and acquisitions of these startups and is not planned, "Yevchenko said in mid-November 2023.

According to experts, investing in Restik can be perceived as an attempt by VimpelCom to develop an ecosystem by analogy with MTS, since telecom operators are increasingly difficult to earn on telecommunications services, and they have to diversify their areas of activity.

Infoline CEO Ivan Fedyakov recalled the MTS startup studio, which, according to the analyst, is more advanced. And VimpelCom probably decided to start catching up with a competitor.[1]

It's like from a gas station. In the United States and other countries, they do not earn money on the sale of fuel, in the future you need to have an accompanying business, "Fedyakov explained.
