2020: Harley-Davidson created Serial 1 Cycle for development of electric bicycles

At the end of October, 2020 Harley-Davidson provided the new company which will be focused only on the market of electric bicycles. The new Serial 1 Cycle brand received the name in honor of a nickname of the first motorcycle released by Harley-Davidson.

According to the director of Serial 1 Aaron Frank, the market of electronic bicycles appeared in the thick of things because of COVID-19 pandemic as people began to look for a safe method to play sports, and in the cities - a method of safe movement without subway or the bus.

According to the NPD Group company researching the market, sales of bicycles in June, 2020 grew by 63% in comparison with the same month 2019. This growth "is generally connected with sales of more expensive bicycles which are usually bought by enthusiasts, including highway, gravel and mountain bicycles, including electric".

Products of Serial 1 represent electric bicycles with a pedal system. At the same time the small electric motor and the battery provide to the equestrian additional effort, by 2-4 times bigger, than normal opportunities of the cyclist. Power of the amplifier is limited on the speed of 20 miles per hour (32 km/h).

The electric bicycle can be loaded from the household power supply network. For a full charge it is required from three to six hours, and the range of operation of the electric motor is from 20 to 70 miles depending on complexity of a route.

New electric bicycles will be available to direct sales on the Internet and some dealers have Harley-Davidson. They will not be on sale in independent cycle shops. Though all Serial 1 bicycles are designed and developed to Milwaukee (USA), production them will occur in Taiwan. The prices by the end of October, 2020 are not disclosed.[1]
