Zenuity is a joint venture of two Swedish companies - Volvo Cars (VCC) and Veoneer. Software developer for unmanned vehicles and the systems of the help to the driver (ADAS/Advanced Driver Assistance System).

Cooperation with Nvidia
Volvos Cars and Autoliv combine efforts with Nvidia. The purpose of such cooperation is development of systems and the software for the autopiloted cars.
All three companies will work with Zenuity for creation of technologies of autonomous driving of the next generation. As a result of Volvo Cars she intends to start in sale unmanned vehicles of the 4th level by 2021. Auto pilots of similar level are capable to drive independently the car on any roads. Intervention of the person in this case is required only in critical situations or, for example, in difficult weather conditions.
Within the new agreement of Volvo Cars, Autoliv and Zenuity will use the open computing platform with artificial intelligence from NVIDIA as a basis for own software development. The general tasks will integrate two leaders in the field of automobile security of the company with one of the best developers in the field of artificial intelligence in the world.
Transfer of intellectual property
Volvos Cars and Autoliv license and transfer to joint venture intellectual property to the early developments. On the basis of this base the joint venture which creation it was for the first time stated in September, 2016 will project new ADAS and AD technologies. It is expected that Zenuity will put on the market the first results of the work by 2019.
It is the case first in the history when the bonus car maker and the world's leading developer of security systems for the automotive industry combined the efforts for development of the advanced systems of the help to the driver (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, ADAS) and technologies of autonomous driving (Autonomous Driving, AD).
The mission of Zenuity – to use the latest developments in the field of the systems of the help to the driver and technologies of off-line control for creation of the advanced reliable and flexible solutions – both for today, and for the future. It will be reached due to use of the acquired experience and the tools tested in actual practice. Products of the company will be presented to clients in the platform form with building block solutions and a possibility of the choice of the most suitable of them. Zenuity also aims at formation and development of the industry by implementation of solutions which are capable to expand constantly borders of the sphere of technology of off-line control.
Autoliv is an exclusive supplier and the distributor of all products Zenuity for the third parties that does not provide exclusive rights for any clients or owners. Volvo Cars can receive all technologies implemented here directly from new joint venture.
Agreement of Volvo Cars and Autoliv on creation of JV Zenuity
In 2017 the car maker Volvo Cars and developer of security systems for the automotive industry of Autoliv signed at the beginning of 2017 the agreement on creation of Zenuity joint venture which will develop the software for auto pilots and the systems of the help to the driver.
Zenuity will become the participant of emerging market of the software for the systems of off-line control. For the first time the bonus car maker combines efforts with the leading developer of the systems of the help to the driver and technologies of off-line control.
According to the document, at the time of signing Autoliv invests in joint venture in total about 1.1 billion Swedish kronur. A considerable part of investments will be made in the form of monetary investments and also in the form of a number of assets of Autoliv. The deposit Volvo Cars will be provided by intellectual property and human resources without monetary investments. As it was announced earlier, Autoliv and Volvos Cars will own new joint venture on the terms of 50/50.
The head office of the enterprise will be placed in Gothenburg (Sweden). Works will also be carried out in Munich (Germany) and Detroit (USA). The staff of the enterprise will consist of employees of Volvo Cars and Autoliv. Initially the number of employees will be about 200 people, and in the medium term the staff will be increased up to 600 employees and more. The joint venture will get to work in the first half of 2017 after in a number of the countries permissions of antimonopoly services are got and other aspects of creation of joint venture are approved.
Volvos Cars and Autoliv will provide licensing of intellectual property on the own systems of the help to the driver and will transfer them to joint venture. Proceeding from the received base, the company will develop the new systems of the help to the driver and technology of off-line control by cars. It is expected that the new company will be able to put the developed systems of the help to the driver on the market by 2019, and then new technologies in the field of off-line control will follow.
Autoliv will execute a role of the exclusive supplier and distributor of all products developed by the new company which will be on sale in the market. Such scheme does not provide exclusive rights for any clients or owners. Volvo Cars will receive such products directly at new joint venture.
