RAIDIX 5.2 with NVMe-over-Fabric and NFS-over-RDMA for high-performance storage

On June 24, 2022, RAIDIX announced that it had released RAIDIX 5.2, an update to domestic PO RAIDIX 5, used to build software DSS in video surveillance systems, video analytics, post-production, HPC and other loaded infrastructures.

PO RAIDIX 5.2: Single Controller Mode of Operation

The main feature of RAIDIX 5.2 is the ability to use the NVMe-oF protocol, which means to extend the capabilities of the productive NVMe protocol throughout the data transfer environment.

PO RAIDIX 5.2: Dual-Controller Mode of Operation

To realize the capabilities of NVMe-oF, RAIDIX 5.2 implements support for the NVMe-over-TCP protocol, which uses a network data transfer model, and the TCP/IP NVMe-over-RDMA protocol, which allows, with minimal resource utilization CPU , to transmit data over RoCE with an increased speed and a delay close to zero. RAIDIX 5.2 also supports NFS-over-RDMA, which reduces data latency, increases bandwidth when working with NFS shared folders and reduces CPU load. Another update aimed at improving the performance of systems based on RAIDIX 5.2 was the transition to the ON kernel. The Linux"RAIDIX" emphasizes that in conditions of limited import of hardware components, the implementation of software DSS is a way to optimize equipment costs and increase the life of the DSS.

In addition, DSS administrators will be able to receive email and SNMP notifications about the status of uninterruptible power supplies and manage UPS configurations on the system. The software also implements a different user interface.

Like the previous version of RAIDIX 5, RAIDIX 5.2 has technologies designed to improve system performance and reliability: proactive and partial reconstruction, proactive reading, 10 available RAID levels, including RAID 7.3 and N + M.

With performance and additional functionality, RAIDIX 5.2 enables DSS to be implemented in busy video surveillance, video analytics, media (including post-production), HPC, and real-time transaction processing (OLTP) organizations working with databases. In addition, the performance of the NFS-over-RDMA protocol allows the implementation of RAIDIX 5.2-based SDS systems in projects related to artificial intelligence training.

Raidix 5.1 with Advanced Hypervisor Integration from VMware

An updated version of RAIDIX 5.X software for building high-performance DSS been released. The development company announced this in June 2021.

The main changes in the RAIDIX 5.1 release affected the architecture for ensuring DSS resiliency, integration with the hypervisor from VMware and All-Flash configurations.

With the added capabilities, users of RAIDIX 5.1-based DSS can achieve even greater system performance and reliability. The implemented functionality transfers the load from hosts to storage and provides additional system configuration options compared to previous versions of RAIDIX 5.X.

The updates included in the product allow you to significantly expand the scenarios for its application in such types of customers as:

Changes to RAIDIX 5.1

  • The architecture of the Active-Active DSS cluster has been improved. Now both controllers are able to receive requests to virtual volumes. This allows you to maintain system health and access to data when one of the I/O ports fails. This functionality is implemented using the ALUA architecture, which allows you to redirect the I/O of the same virtual volume to any DSS controller.
  • Advanced hypervisor integration from VMware through the development of VAAI (vStorage API for Array Integration) support. This set of specialized commands allows you to conduct some of the I/O operations not on, but server virtualizations on the DSS, thereby reducing the load on the components of both the server and the storage network.

Significant improvements have also been made to the software kernel optimized for All-Flash configurations.

  • Support for block 512 bytes makes DSS VMware compatible.
  • The restart feature allows you to add drives to an existing array by increasing its size or changing the RAID level.
  • RAID N + M support allows the user to independently determine the number of disks allocated for checksum storage. RAIDIX technology allows you to recover data on failure of up to 32 disks (depending on the number of disks allocated for checksums).

Raidix DSS of 5.0.1.3 compatibility with AICSB203-UR platform and J4078-01 shelf

The RAIDIX 5.0.1.3 software demonstrated full performance on the AICSB203-UR platform and JBOD J4078-01 shelf. The company RAIDIX (RAIDIX) announced this on May 28, 2021. Joint certification enables company partners to build systems with proven TTC and high quality of service, saving time and resources necessary for testing and integration of solutions on the side of the integrator and the client.

Building high-density DSS requires a high-performance platform. In addition, when working with high loads, it is necessary to strive for the best ratio of performance, storage density and cost.

Prior to testing, RAIDIX engineers performed a standard preparation procedure including installing RAIDIX 5.0.1.3 on the system being tested and switching the system being tested and the DAE over SAS. After that, a direct testing procedure was launched. It included 17 stages - from loading the system with HBA data to checking the operation of S.M.A.R.T.

Compatibility has been successfully validated at 4 key levels:

Also, during testing, two key features of the DSS software solution were confirmed:

Thanks to this, the work of client services can be continued even in case of breakdowns, emergencies, power outages. The demonstrated fault tolerance is a key plus for ensuring the operation of websites, CRM systems, online services, etc.

From the test results, it can be concluded that such a solution based on RAIDIX significantly reduces TCO compared to the cost of using ready-made DSS in the areas of video surveillance (including large-scale projects such as urban systems) and media production. In addition to reducing TCO, the solution improves data copy and recovery rates, which has a beneficial effect on RPO/RTO rates.

Thus, based on the tests, the AICSB203-UR platform and the AICJBODJ4078-01 DAE can be officially certified, added to the RAIDIX compatibility sheet and recommended for use.

Support for NVDIMM-N memory modules

The company "RAIDIX" announced support ON for Raidix 4.6 NVDIMM-N non-volatile memory modules developed by the company. Micron By using NVDIMM Raidix 4.6 technology, you can ensure data integrity in the event of a power outage.

Micron's NVDIMM support enables standard general-purpose hardware to gain functionality previously only available in Class "A "enterprise DSS.

Micron combines DRAM performance with NAND nonvolatile memory to ensure data integrity in a highly loaded enterprise environment, supercomputing, and more.

NVDIMM modules are installed in standard memory slots of compatible motherboards. In the event of a power outage or other failure, the internal NVDIMM controller moves the data stored in DRAM to the non-volatile memory area. After the system is restored, the controller transfers data from NAND memory without loss, allowing applications to continue working. The AgigA Tech PowerGEM ultracapacitor can act as a backup power supply for Micron NVDIMM.

NVDIMM technology in the Micron implementation is a combination of volatile and non-volatile memory (NAND Flash, DRAM and an autonomous power source in the memory subsystem). DDR4 NVDIMM-N from Micron provides fast DRAM read and write speeds and DRAM backup in case of loss of power supply.

As of January 2018, the following Micron NVDIMM-N memory models are available:

  • 8GB DDR4 NVDIMM 2133 MT/s
  • 16GB DDR4 NVDIMM 2666 MT/s
  • 32GB DDR4 NVDIMM 2933 MT/s.

According to RAIDIX, the use of ultracapacitors and NAND Flash allows you to simplify system maintenance and minimize downtime risks without external power. Data is copied to an SLC Flash drive, which has optimal reliability and access performance characteristics.

Using its own RAID algorithms, Raidix software allows you to build high-performance, fault-tolerant, and scalable storage systems based on standard server hardware. Support for NVDIMM-N technology is implemented by Raidix at the RAID driver level, operates in both single-controller and dual-controller mode. In the second case, the cache is mirrored between two nodes with NVDIMM-N.

When developing this functionality, RAIDIX deliberately abandoned the use of proprietary non-volatile memory support modes, which will make it easy to switch to new NVDIMM models in the future. For this reason, Micron was chosen as the technology partner, which produces memory modules that comply with JEDEC standards.

In addition to compatibility with NVDIMM-N, Raidix 4.6 supports 100-bit InfiniBand Mellanox ConnectX-4 interfaces. Software-defined Raidix technology meets the needs of high-performance computing (HPC) by providing uncomplicated computation speeds (up to 25 GB/s per processor core), high fault tolerance (proprietary RAID levels - 6, 7.3, N + M), elastic scalability and compatibility with Intel Lustre.

Version 4.6 was released as part of a strategic partnership between RAIDIX and the Japanese company Core Micro Systems, which intends to actively use Raidix's functionality in the high-performance computing market.

Raidix technology allows you to build storage systems based on servers with Elbrus-4C and Elbrus-8C processors, provides high data availability, supports SAN protocols (Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, iSCSI, 12G SAS) and NAS (NFS, SMB, AFP, FTP). Raidix supports single-controller and dual-controller operating modes of the system. In dual-controller mode of operation, both nodes are active, operate simultaneously and have access to a single set of disks.

RAIDIX provides continuity of access to data and a high degree of fault tolerance due to duplication of nodes (motherboards, cache modules, power supplies, SAS controllers, system disks) and duplication of drive connection channels (both nodes are connected to a single set of disks), explained in "Raydix."

Raidix supports up to 64 drives in a RAID array and up to 600 drives in a single storage system.

Raidix DSS can be key operating systems (Mac OS, Microsoft Windows Server, MicrosoftWindows, Red Hat Linux, SUSE, ALT Linux, CentOS Linux, Ubuntu Linux; Solaris 10) and virtualization platforms (VMware ESX, KVM, RHEV, Microsoft Hyper-V Server, XenServer), Raidix provides the ability to install resource-intensive professional and enterprise applications directly on the storage node.

Data storage systems based on the Elbrus platform are available for order through the ICST, Promobit and RAIDIX.

Version 4.6

The company, "RAIDIX" the vendor, in DSS January 2018 released the next version of the manager ON for - storage systems Raidix 4.6. Raidix software is installed on standard server hardware and allows you to build fault-tolerant high-performance storage systems for resource-intensive industries.

The main emphasis in Raidix 4.5 (released in October 2017) was on hybrid storage performance, efficient caching on solid-state drives and virtualization of disparate SAN systems. Within 4.5, data processing processes in multithreaded mode were optimized and proprietary intelligent algorithms were used to eliminate redundant recording levels. Complementing the functionality of the previous release, Raidix 4.6 allows you to protect the cache for writing, provides support for 100 Gb adapters and includes other useful functions, the company said.

In version 4.6, Raidix developers implemented write cache protection using non-volatile memory (NVDIMM-N). Raidix-based storage systems with NVDIMM support prevent data loss in the event of power outages and other site accidents. Unlike a hardware controller, NVDIMM does not require battery replacement, and a non-volatile memory DSS does not require an additional controller for reliability. Thus, this security mechanism combines high write speed with caching and synchronous write reliability.

Expanding the compatibility matrix, Raidix 4.6 provides an administrator with the ability to connect to Linux client machines via high-performance InfiniBand Mellanox interfaces ConnectX-4 100 Gb. As a result, Raidix provides minimal latency and increased performance in big data, HPC, and enterprise environments. In addition, Raidix 4.6 has made a number of improvements in terms of ease of use and resource management.

In general, RAIDIX consistently develops the product in accordance with industry requirements and key business needs. Among them:

  • High performance - Parallelize RAID to maximize productivity
  • Business continuity - With proprietary RAID levels, the system ensures data availability even if multiple drives fail
  • Optimal price/performance - Utilize standard hardware resources and lower system cost of ownership
  • Flexibility and versatility-Supports SAN and NAS protocols, most operating systems, and demanding professional applications.

2017

Version 4.5

On April 12, 2017, the company "RAIDIX" introduced data caching technology for ON Raidix 4.5.

The research laboratory "RAIDIX" has created a query classifier that separates "random" and "sequential" flows. "Sequential" loads are sent to RAM, where a unique adaptive preemptive read algorithm is applied to them. Depending on the flow rate, the algorithm preloads the following areas into RAM, which helps improve system performance at sequential loads to RAM throughput rates.

To increase the speed of processing random requests, an SSD cache from write and read modules is used. Module sizes vary adaptively depending on load.

Random read requests are cached in RAM. Cache pages with a small number of accesses are released, and regularly "read" pages are copied to the SSD cache for reading. Write requests classified as "random" are sequentially forwarded to the SSD cache for writing. This mechanism allows you to increase the performance when reading and writing in small blocks.

Other RAIDIX 4.5 features include:

Automatic end-to-end recording. The host receives confirmation only when data has been written to disks. In this case, "dirty" cache segments are not sent to the second controller and the synchronization channel is not used.

Scaling volumes. When configured, a single virtual volume can be placed on top of multiple arrays. Volume size can be increased by adding new array space.

Enhanced multithreading. Serial I/O uses a sequence detector that can detect up to 100 parallel threads and adaptively select the cache size for each thread to avoid the problem of excessive caching.

Block DSS virtualization. RAIDIX 4.5 allows you to virtualize the space of third-party block DSS. RAIDIX allows you to access storage directly or use it to create RAID arrays. Thus, the system administrator is able to consolidate enterprise data at a single point, providing flexibility in managing IT infrastructure.

Among the key functional advantages of the new version is a hybrid infrastructure (HDD/SSD) that meets various business objectives, improved support for maximum streaming loads, and pooling the resources of disparate third-party systems. Commercial benefits include the optimal use of hardware resources to achieve high performance, lower system cost of ownership, and cost-effective scaling of existing infrastructure.

Compatible with Broadcom's SAS 9305-16i driver

  • High-performance microassemblies for applications with stringent bandwidth and message speed requirements;
  • Switching for x86, Power, ARM and GPU infrastructures;
  • Elastic scaling to tens of thousands of nodes;
  • High speed in virtualized overlay networks (VXLAN and NVGRE);
  • Efficiently consolidate I/O, reduce costs, and simplify data center architecture.

Using switching technology from, Mellanox RAIDIX continues to expand the capabilities of its system in the field of high-performance computing (HPC). In addition to providing high throughput and low latency, the ConnectX-4 takes into account the features of supercomputer computing, in particular collective operations, thereby contributing to increased scalability and reduced load on. processor

Within a single server infrastructure, RAIDIX technology and Mellanox hardware components address the performance bottlenecks of a standard enterprise infrastructure and provide professional data processing for a range of information-intensive industries.

Samples have been created DSS

On January 10, 2017, MCST JSC and RAIDIX announced the creation of samples of Russian-made data storage systems (DSS) based on the domestic Raidix software included in the register of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications and domestic server equipment on the Elbrus platform.

DSS using the achievements of Russian microelectronics and software-defined storage technology from RAIDIX are focussed on state corporations, power structures, as well as in solving those tasks where it is important to ensure reliable and safe data storage. The reliability and fault tolerance of Russian DSS required to store large amounts of data is ensured by the technical characteristics of the Elbrus platform and the functional features of PO RAIDIX.

Within the storage system, RAIDIX software technology allows you to manage individual RAID arrays and storage clusters, provides high availability of data for serial and random loads, supports SAN protocols (Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, iSCSI, 12G SAS) and NAS (NFS, SMB, AFP, FTP).

RAIDIX 4.4

Random Access Optimization (CSA)

DRS is a feature that enables improved performance and hardware savings through the use of data deduplication. This option can be enabled for any specific volume before it is created. One of the key applications of DSA is support for arbitrary operations with databases and transactional applications.

Optimization of random access helps to quickly solve business problems, speeding up data processing in such types of applications as CRM, ERP, corporate mail, etc.

This functionality is based on:

  • Data deduplication for disk space expansion and flexible virtualization;
  • Thin provisioning technologies to increase logical disk capacity.

Advanced Multi-Path Access

RAIDIX simplifies access over multiple I/O paths by providing support for the Microsoft DSM (device specific module) generic driver instead of the previously used native DSM driver.

RAIDIX provides customers with classic modular (Standalone Storage Appliance) and scale-out DSS (Scale-Out NAS and Shared Storage). NAS solutions scale to meet your growing needs while maintaining a single namespace. The system supports different operating systems over the SAN and provides simultaneous access to the same data over the NAS. RAIDIX provides full compatibility with third-party software and flexibility with respect to possible hardware configurations.

RAIDIX 4.3.2

This version has added intelligent functionality that supports a sufficient level of service (QoS) for dedicated self-learning applications. During the configuration process, the user selects certain business-critical applications and trains the QoS module to recognize the data of such an application. When working on clients of selected applications, the patented QoSmic (Quality of Service) module independently determines that the desired application is running from the DSS and assigns the maximum Real-time priority to this client; after the end of the application, the priority is removed. This functionality enables the consumer to ensure that DSS resources are used primarily for important business applications.

A new one, Cycle, has been added to the existing LRU (line-replaceable unit) cache segment preemption algorithm. This algorithm works more efficiently in random writing than LRU, which is more suitable for sequential loads. Cycle increases DSS performance.

Configuration wizards have appeared in the web interface, with which the user can quickly and correctly create a volume or network resource on the NAS, as well as configure the RAIDIX dual-controller configuration.

The data format used in versions starting with RAIDIX 3.3 is supported: the functionality allows updating such systems to RAIDIX 4.3.2 without data transfer.

Version 4.3.2 adds the ability to clone the RAIDIX configuration to simplify typical installations on similar equipment. It is also possible to transfer disks with data from one system to another (Raids are imported into the new system, and data will be available).

In the updated version of Raidix, you can use SAS as a synchronization channel in a dual-controller configuration, making it easier to create similar configurations. Added support for ESXi 6.0 and Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.

Released DSS Raidix Aero

On March 2, 2015, RAIDIX announced the readiness of its first line of hardware solutions. The portfolio of companies offers is Raidix Aero.

Raidix Aero system logo, 2015

Raidix Aero is presented as an easy to install, reliable and efficient system.

Raidix Aero, 2014

Raidix Aero systems are based on reliability, cost and speed, the developers said. The patented triple checksum RAID calculation technology will preserve data and access speed even if three drives fail.

Raidix Aero belongs to the Unified Storage class, this allows their use in SANs and as NAS. The systems support iSCSI block protocols (1 and 10 Gbs), FC (8 and 16 Gbs), SRP/Infiniband (40 and 56 Gbs). SMB, NFS and AFP can be used as file protocols.

The partial reconstruction mechanism used helps to repair a single corrupted area of the hard drive containing corrupted or modified data. Array recovery time in the event of a single disk failure is significantly reduced.

Hidden errors that cause a huge inconvenience to users by remaining hidden on hard drives and providing users with the correct data. If there are several of them, RAID reconstruction may not be possible. For this case, RAIDIX has Hidden Error Control, a patented metadata analysis algorithm that negates the possibility of damaging important information, which is relevant when working with NL SAS and SATA disks.

"Our
customers value us for the performance and ease of use of our software. But in the current situation in the world, there is another undoubted advantage of Raidix Aero - you will not be left without updates and technical support, regardless of policy, oil prices and whatever it is. And this is especially important in our time, when the cost of data is in the millions, and the fate of the company depends on their availability, "said Sergey Platonov, head of product development at Raidix.

The Raidix Aero comes in two versions:

  • The Raidix Aero 116 is a single-controller DSS with low storage costs and high performance. Such systems are suitable for working with media content, storing backups, and use in video surveillance systems.

  • Raidix Aero 216 is a dual-controller DSS of system with two active nodes (in block mode) with access to a single set of disks. Ensures continuous access to data. Two-way cache synchronization for writing between nodes allows you to take on the entire load when one node fails, the second, giving the administrator the opportunity to fix the problem without stopping the system. Raidix Aero 216 can be used to store important corporate data, in virtualization systems and other critical applications in the company's infrastructure.

Raidix 4.3 DSS Release

On July 1, 2015, Raidix announced the release of Raidix 4.3.

In this release, according to the developer's statement, the factors of influence on performance, fault tolerance, ease of implementation and use have been improved.

  • Performance: An algorithm for caching reads using SSDs has been implemented. SSD caching increases hot data access performance several times. Optimization has been performed to help organize all-flash arrays for data reading tasks, with requirements for the highest storage array performance.

  • Fault Tolerance: This version of the product implements a unique RAID N + M algorithm that allows custom determination of the number of disks assigned to checksums. Data can now be recovered when up to 32 disks in a single group fail.

  • Easy to implement and use: added support for another interface - SAS 12G, the performance of one port reaches 48 GB, the user interface has been updated and software packages can now be updated through it. It became possible to detect all RAIDIX systems connected to the local network and see their status on one screen.

Sergey Platonov, head of product development at Raidix, said: "When creating RAIDIX 4.3, we followed our main approach - development through scientific research. The RAID N + M and two-layer cache modules were originally developed in the company's own research laboratory. From the very first day of the company's existence, we created key product values using a scientific approach and this method fully justifies itself. The release went through several stages of quality testing in various departments of the company and with loyal customers and the results of really great and hard work, finally became available to everyone. "

RAIDIX 4.0

On April 26, 2014, RAIDIX released a new release of RAIDIX 4.0.

RAIDIX 4.0 is an addition to the 3.0 product line. The main innovation in the product is the implementation of the system as a Network Attached Storage (NAS). Along with the ability to work DSS at the block level in SANs, there is support for working with file access using the RAIDIX software. With the advent of file access support, RAIDIX has become one of the few vendors whose solutions can be classified as Unified Storage (SAN + NAS).

Working with shared folders in RAIDIX 4.0 is carried out using NFS, FTP, AFP and FTP protocols, which allows users to simultaneously access large amounts of data at a low cost of operation compared to SAN. When working with shared folders using the SMB protocol, integration with Active Directory is implemented, the parameters of which are configured from the RAIDIX 4.0 web interface.

This release inherits all the key competitive advantages of Raidix, such as high performance, triple-parity raid (7.3), silent data corruption detection, and partial reconstruction.

Fall 2014 Update

RAIDIX released in the fall of 2014 a specialized release software for building high-performance - DSS RAIDIX HPC. This version is an addition to the company's product line and will be distributed through a partner network of more than 30 companies around the world.

The main consumers of RAIDIX HPC will be companies that perform a large amount of calculations and calculations. These are primarily universities, scientific centers, companies engaged in coding and converting video and other large amounts of data. This class of tasks is primarily characterized by the need for high-performance DSS, the performance and capacity of which can be dynamically scaled.

RAIDIX HPC allows you to create a storage system oriented work in HPC infrastructures using Lustre as a file system, using standard hardware components (enclosures, disks, interface controllers, memory, processors, etc.). The built DSS of system will have high reliability, speed and low storage costs.

The distinguishing features of RAIDIX HPC are:

  • Operation in two controller modes only.
  • Active-Active mode.
  • OSS Lustre services are already installed inside the product and do not require additional equipment for their deployment.

The product inherits all the key competitive advantages of RAIDIX, such as high performance, triple-parity raid (7.3), silent data corruption detection, and partial reconstruction.

Raidix and Promobit presented a media storage system

At the end of November 2014, RAIDIX and Promobit at NAT Expo 2014 introduced a media storage system that successfully competes with imported products in performance and reliability, winning in value.

As a result of the reforms, most regional TV channels found themselves in a difficult situation, and hope remains only for the development of dialogue with the state. regulator. At the end of 2014, regional TV channels managed to defend the frequency regulator, which were planned to be given to telecom operators under LTE. The disconnection of analog television has been postponed, which would literally be death for regional channels. In July 2014, the law on advertising was amended, which, in fact, will destroy cable TV - more than 1000 TV channels across the country will close if measures are not promptly taken. As measures taken, Natalia Piskunova, General Director of the forum "National Association of Broadcasters," called the holding of the constituent meeting of the association "Association of Regional Broadcasters." One of its goals, this association recognizes amendments to the law on advertising that would remove regional channels from its operation - otherwise, the channels will have to rebuild their business structures.

In the whole current situation, the main thing remains the fact that TV for Russians remains the main communication channel. This is an incentive for all industry participants to find ways of development, see prospects, use content and technological opportunities. The latest RAIDIX Media Storage System (RAIDIX DSS) has become the embodiment of technological capabilities. The joint development was announced by two Russian companies: the developer of the RAIDIX DSS management software and the Promobit company with the BitBlaze server platform. Russian system platform based on the Elbrus 2C + processor, support for up to 60 hard SATA hot-swap drives in a compact form factor (4U for 60 3.5 'drives). Thus, the total storage capacity of one server is a maximum of 360 TV. With the exception of drives and backend elements, RAIDIX DSS is completely domestic.

Differs from imported systems in two parameters: Higher performance (especially in multiple disk failure mode) and price. Due to the high density of SATA placement (which themselves are 3 times cheaper than SAS) in one case, the use of Russian components and the expanded functionality of the control software, the cost of storing 1 GB of information is 12 kopecks.

For SATA drives, the problems of the so-called Silent Data Corruption are relevant: this technology does not and cannot have a built-in SDC protection mechanism. Also, for SATA, the AFR (Annualized Failure Rate) indicator is calculated, which is 2.92%. This value is a theoretical indicator of the probability of failure of a particular disk within 1 year. The RAIDIX product is designed and specially developed in order to level the technological "imperfections" of the hardware base.

  • The Triple Checksum RAID method ensures high speed and data security while failing up to 3 drives. This technology is protected by a patent. This multithreaded algorithm achieves the maximum performance possible for the disk subsystem.
  • The damage from SDC is reduced to zero thanks to a latent error detection and correction mechanism that works by using parity, but unlike competitors, it does not require complex calculations. It is important to note that these constantly occurring processes do not affect the performance of the system.
  • The ability to monitor disk operations allows RAIDIX to read data in parallel and use only the fastest RAID drives.
  • The partial reconstruction mechanism allows you to restore only a single area of the hard drive containing damaged or changed data. Thus, the recovery time of the array is significantly reduced

According to the tests of the RAIDIX research laboratory, the performance of a solution based on the Elbrus architecture running PO RAIDIX exceeded the performance of most known foreign hardware RAID controllers. This test consisted of monitoring the performance of the RAID array - and precisely the parameters of the write and read speed in maximum failure mode.

In this situation, most television companies do not really understand their fate and therefore are afraid to invest in new equipment and technologies. Today they are more worried about not what equipment to buy, but how to stay on the market so that they are not closed. However, storage systems are operated daily in every television studio and on every TV channel: the transition to domestic storage solutions - to RAIDIX DSS - will help save money without paying for compromises and solve the main, pressing problems.

2012

RAIDIX 3.0

RAIDIX announced in the fall of 2012 the release of a new version of the product for high-performance storage systems. RAIDIX 3.0 has been available for the partner network since the end of November 2012.

Fundamentally new for RAIDIX 3.0 is a convenient modern management interface in Russian, including a single screen with a set of information panels, wizards for creating new objects. The product also adds new caching techniques to optimize random reading and writing, as well as support for the Infiniband 56Gb/s interface.

The new product was introduced at the end of November 2012 to engineers and product managers of partner organizations. RAIDIX representatives demonstrated the capabilities of version 3.0 and announced the development prospects for 2013-2014. In particular, work will soon be carried out to support SAS 3.0 and FC 16Gb interfaces, SAN + NAS solutions and the release of a new unique RAID N + 3 calculation algorithm.

"The launch of the new version of the RAIDIX 3.0 product was preceded by serious research and development, we sought not only to release a new version, we made a solution convenient for DSS users and at the same time leading in the main criteria for storage systems: performance, reliability, cost," commented RAIDIX Executive Director Razumovsky Sergey.

Storage systems delivered on the Raidix platform in 2012 ranged from 12TB to 240TB and were used for various areas of activity, but the Media & Entertainment industry became the most active consumer. "Companies in this industry value the Raidix solution for process quality to deliver up to 6GB/s of performance from a single storage system at an affordable price," the company said. The key consumers of such solutions in 2012 were the TV channels of Russia, Ukraine, India and China.

Updated RAIDIX 3.0

The updated version of the PO RAIDIX release is available from June 10, the company's press service reported on June 14, 2013. The changes affected the functionality of the product - the new version implements advanced system capabilities for users, contributing to multiple improvements in performance and quality of work.

RAID 7.3

Creating RAID 7.3 arrays is a new feature that allows you to recover data when up to 3 array drives fail. This unique feature of RAIDIX significantly improves the reliability of large disk arrays.

The Silent Data Corruption mechanism has been added, which allows you to fix hidden errors on disks in real time. Setting the latent corruption detection mode is possible directly from the user interface. This mechanism is recommended if you have SATA drives in the array that do not have internal data integrity control.

The product adds support for 16 GB of ATTO adapters. Adapter support will be available for external connections, as well as for internal synchronization in two-controller mode. This means increasing the maximum DSS throughput on the RAIDIX platform.

In addition to saturation with functional characteristics, RAIDIX has taken care of simplifying system configuration and management procedures - automatic detection of connected disks (simplifies the system installation procedure, avoids manual disk configuration at the time of installation), an improved multilingual user interface and the option to turn on the LED disk indicator from the user interface.

Description

AvroRAID released RAIDIX, a universal fault-tolerant solution, in July 2011 storage systems. Software RAIDIX allows you to create DSS without a single point of failure by configuring a two-node failover cluster with a common set of disks and duplicating major hardware components such as motherboards, cache modules, power supplies, SAS controllers, FC controllers, and system drives. If one of the nodes fails, it automatically switches to the second node containing the current copy of the configuration and data of the active device, which preserves access to information and guarantees enterprise continuity business processes. Such a solution is quite unique for software implementations, DSS which are usually built on the basis of one controller and have a single point of failure. The data storage system ON with RAIDIX can be implemented in various hardware configurations, since the software allows the use of standard server components.

"The introduction of such a solution on the market will allow you to create productive and inexpensive DSS can lead in its price segment in a number of significant characteristics. PO RAIDIX-based solutions can be successfully applied to tasks that require high availability of data at low storage costs. This applies to virtualization, backup, and electronic document management projects. The new product is ideal for tasks with high requirements for fault tolerance and reliable storage of information, "comments Sergey Razumovsky, CEO, AvroRAID
