History
2018: Online cinema frozen
Gazprom Media did not develop the remaining online cinema Zoomby, in which 26.25% belongs to the structures of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. It went to the holding under its former head Mikhail Lesin and was frozen for February 2018. Gazprom Media stopped supporting the resource, focusing on the development of Ruform video services. Since June, a monitoring procedure has been introduced in the WebTV JSC, which managed Zoomby. VGTRK demands 53 million rubles from it, and Gazprom-Media - 209.7 million rubles, follows from the materials of the court.
2017: Court orders Zoomby to reimburse VGTRK 46 million rubles
The Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal of Moscow confirmed in February the decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court on the need to compensate for the debt of the online cinema Zoomby (WebTV LLC) to the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.
According to Vedomosti, we are talking about an amount of 46 million rubles and 7 million rubles in penalties for advertising on the Internet portal of a video service controlled by Gazprom Media. The contract between the companies was concluded in 2010.
2016: Zoomby audience drops nine-fold
2014-2016 Zoomby's audience dropped almost nine times. According to the data, TNS Russia back in June 2014, the monthly audience of the video service was 9.46 million visitors, and in 2016 - only 1.01 million. The situation is worsened by the dissatisfaction of the minority co-owner of the video service (VGTRK the structures of the television and radio company own 26.25% of the shares of the service, while HPMC 73.75%), who filed a lawsuit against the structure of WebTV LLC (managed by Zoomby) demanding to recover 53 million rubles debt from the defendant for its content (46 million rubles of debt, plus 7 million penalties). According to SPARK-Interfax, the service is unprofitable: WebTV's revenue in 2015 amounted to 50.68 million rubles, net loss - 30.5 million rubles.
The largest online asset of Gazprom-Media is Rutube, the main bet is made on it, and the situation with the rest of the video services leaves much to be desired, a Kommersant source in one of the holding's partners states. At the same time, Rutube's audience also dropped sharply - from 6.19 million in June 2014 to 3.85 million last June. In 2015, Gazprom-Media's share in the market of Russian online cinemas was 10% (Zoomby, Now.ru and RuTube revenue from professional video were taken into account), iKS-Consulting estimated. The entire market was estimated at 3.4 billion rubles.
Kommersant's interlocutor at Gazprom Media confirms that the bet is on the "organically popular Rutube." He associates the growth of Zoomby's audience in previous years with the purchase of traffic, now, according to him, the holding has reduced Zoomby's operating costs, and its loss has also decreased significantly (in 2014 it amounted to 102 million rubles). As for the claim of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company against Zoomby, the interlocutor of Kommersant continues, this debt "has been accumulating since 2012."
2015: Leader-Innovation Foundation pulled out of Zoomby with significant returns
Konstantin Nadenenko, director of venture investments at Leader Management Company, said that in 2015 the Leader-Innovation Fund left Zoomby, "the most significant of the WebMediaGroup projects we have invested," "a significant return on investment was obtained."
2014
Unsuccessful attempt by Rostelecom and Gazprom-Media to create a joint venture in the field of online video
Gazprom Media has already tried to reorganize this line of business. So, in 2014, Rostelecom"" and Gazprom-Media wanted to create a joint company, which would include Zoomby, Now.ru and Rutube. In preparation for the deal, Rutube switched to an exclusive online screening of popular TNT content, including Comedy Club releases, sitcoms and TV shows, for several years, sources told Kommersant. But at the end of 2014, Gazprom Media changed its leadership: instead of Mikhail Lesin, the holding was headed by Dmitry Chernyshenko, and the deal fell through at the finish stage. Gazprom-Media continued to look for development opportunities on the Internet and eventually merged Rutube with the largest distribution network for legal content in the Pladform runet, through which video is posted on various sites, including the social network Vkontakte"." Gazprom-Media has 33.3% in the total Ruform company, the rest is with Pladform shareholders Armen Gulinyan, Ivan Tavrin and Innova.
Gazprom Media buys service
In 2014, Sergey Kalugin sold his stake in WebMediaGroup to Gazprombank, after which Gazprom-Media bought control in Zoomby from the bank.
2013
Investments of $10 million from Gazprombank, the Leader-Innovation Fund and shareholders
In 2013, the company raised another $10 million from Gazprombank, the Leader-Innovation Fund and shareholders for the purchase of content and development.
At this time, Zoomby is a Russian online aggregator of television content. The portal combines the content of leading federal channels - Russia 1, NTV, First, STS, TVC, Domashny, and others. The Zoomby catalog includes more than 16 thousand hours of popular video, including TV shows, shows, feature films and documentaries, news, sports programs. Current television content is presented in the format "after the broadcast," that is, it appears on Zoomby immediately after being shown on the channel. The entire Zoomby portal library is available for free by users. In addition to the online version of Zoomby, users can watch video content using mobile apps and SMART TVs.
1 million video screenings per day
Revenue from advertising sales from Zoomby.ru tripled
The audience of the site Zoomby.ru in December 2013 has 9.8 million people, the audience of the Ivi.ru is 8.5 million people, the Tvigle.ru is 4.2 million people.
Zoomby, one of the leading Russian online aggregators of television content, crossed the 1 million video screenings per day mark in March 2013. A significant increase in the number of video screenings is associated with an increase in the audience of the portal, the development of mobile applications, the addition of new content, which is presented in the format "after the air." So, in March, six prime-time series are available on the Zoomby.ru, including "Veronica. Runaway "and" Queen of Bandits "of Russia 1," Toptuny "and" Teacher in Law "NTV, as well as the series of Channel One" Equation of Love "and" Zhurov, "in which Andrei Panin played the main role.
Series on Zoomby.ru, as well as in Zoomby applications for Smart TV and mobile devices, are available for viewing a few hours after being shown on TV. Over the year, the number of views of content in the "following the air" format only on the site has grown 10 times, and in the last month alone it has increased by more than 39%. This growth in the company is associated with the fact that manufacturers began to produce a better product, began to pay more attention to promotional campaigns, and viewers "tried" the ability to watch videos online at a time convenient for them.
Internet holding WebMediaGroup announced in May 2013 the closure of the deal to attract a new round of investments for the development of media projects. The round was attended by shareholders: the venture capital fund "Leader-Innovation," "Gazprombank" and the founders of the company. The attracted investments will be aimed at developing, first of all, the video portal of the Zoomby.ru, as well as other media assets of the holding.
2012
In 2012, the portal increased its audience core by 43%, and user loyalty increased by 17%. The portal contains more than 48 thousand units of content. In 2013, Zoomby.ru plans to develop applications for different platforms - mobile devices and Smart TV.
In 2012, Zoomby.ru worked on an advertising model, earning income through the placement of advertising materials. "The most sought-after advertising inventory was Preroll - a commercial before the film or program began. However, the portal notes a smooth increase in advertisers' interest in middle- advertising in the middle of the content being viewed.
