Closing of most hotels in Europe
The Azimut Hotels chain stops participating in the business of all European hotels. This was announced in March 2023 by a representative of Gleden Invest, which manages the assets of entrepreneur Alexander Klyachin.
According to RBC, by March 2023, hotels in Dresden, Erding and Nuremberg continue to operate under the Azimut brand, while back in 2022 the company managed eight facilities in Europe. At the same time, the hotel booking service Booking.com hotels in Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Vienna changed their names from Azimut to acom-Hotel, the newspaper notes. A representative of Glenden Invest told RBC that the company has nothing to do with this brand, and the press service of Azimut Hotels confirmed the termination of management agreements with part of European hotels that operated under the Azimut brand.
Azimut Hotels has existed since 2006; by March 2023, it operates almost 70 hotels and sanatoriums with a total fund of about 12 thousand rooms.
Gleden Invest did not give a reason for leaving the European market, saying that the termination or conclusion of management agreements is a constant practice of any management company. The company representative added that in 2023 Azimut opened two new hotels - in Yasnaya Polyana and Moscow. In addition, in 2023 and 2024, it is planned to open two new hotels managed by Gleden Invest in Israel, as well as in the CIS countries.
The general director of Ivashkevich Hospitality Stanislav Ivashkevich suggests that the termination of management contracts with foreign owners was the result of international sanctions imposed against Russia after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. In addition, the impossibility of making cross-border payments could affect, he adds.[1]
