Pixeom is the American company specializing in development of the software-defined platform for peripheral calculations. Initially the solution was based on technology open source of OpenStack which helps the companies to manage the data centers. Afterwards Pixeom switched to containers which deliver and manage software on network edges.
History
2019: Siemens purchased from Pixeom business on development of peripheral calculations
At the end of October, 2019 Siemens announced acquisition at Pixeom of business on development of the platform of peripheral calculations. The assets and personnel connected with this solution entered perimeter of the transaction, but the company Pixeom remained independent. Financial terms of agreement do not reveal.
On the basis of Pixeom technologies the German industrial giant will start an open ecosystem of Siemens Industrial Edge which will allow the companies to create and operate quickly applications in the field of peripheral calculations for data analysis in a manufacturing sector.
The developments purchased from a startup will be a part of business of Siemens Factory Automation which is a part of division of Siemens Digital Industries and which specializes on the project of Internet of Things.
According to the edition, one of key features of Pixeom is a possibility of configuration, deployment and management of cloud applicaions on the normal equipment by means of containerization that allows the companies to start these types of applications on boundary and local servers without the need for any special setup of the equipment. Such solution facilitates deployment of large-scale geographically distributed infrastructure.
To Pixeom developers helps to transfer quickly the applications created for cloud infrastructure to local or boundary servers.[1]
