Summing up the results of work in 2021

Rostelecom and the Pension Fund of Russia (PFR) summed up the work of the ABC Internet project in 2021. The project aimed at teaching pensioners to work on the computer and on the Internet showed quite good results, despite the restrictions continuing due to the pandemic and the inability to conduct face-to-face classes in a significant part of the country. This was announced on February 8, 2022 by Rostelecom.

In 2021, 43,106 pensioners and disabled people took a computer literacy course on the "Alphabet of the Internet," including:

  • 28,100 people - at 630 sites in the PFR branches. In total, in 2021, the FIU organized 43,200 lessons in various formats;
  • 4,689  people - in regional branches of Rostelecom in offline and online formats;
  • 10,317 people - in social security bodies, branches of the Union of Pensioners, the Union of Veterans, employment services, NGOs and libraries from 22 regions.

In total, since the beginning of the program in 2014, about 400,000 citizens of retirement age have taken courses under the "ABC of the Internet" program. Starting from 2020, training is conducted not only offline, but also online, teachers come up with interesting and effective ways to transfer knowledge to their students.

So, in Novosibirsk in 2021, Rostelecom organized 12 webinars in which participants were told in detail about how to safely make purchases on the Internet, use the public services portal and other services. Project volunteers also helped master the basic functions of video editors and taught participants to create videos in free computer programs. According to the results of the last online lesson, the public organization "Pensioners-Online" with the support of Rostelecom launched the contest "Rostelecom Video." Representatives of the older generation filmed and edited videos, showing the skills gained during the training. Information about the events was posted on the website, so listeners from any region of the Russian Federation could take part in the webinars.

In the Amur Region, within the framework of the ABC Internet project, a meeting was organized between the course students and employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Russian MIA Administration for the Amur Region. The event was held in support of the training module on safe behavior on the network. At the meeting, police officers talked about the types of fraud on the network and offline, the forms of its manifestation, real cases in the Amur Region against pensioners and how to resist them, what to do so as not to fall for the bait of criminals. At the end of the meeting, the participants received specially prepared memos and a textbook "The ABC of the Internet."

In the regional divisions of Rostelecom, work is underway to provide libraries with textbooks. This will allow significantly more pensioners to master basic computer knowledge, both independently and with the help of relatives or library employees - the older generation is still more convenient to learn from books. Thus, the circulations of the "Alphabet of the Internet" were transferred to the Gvardeysk library in the Kaliningrad region and to the National Library of the Komi Republic.

The textbook "The ABC of the Internet" also often becomes a gift for participants in various educational events: in the Perm Territory, Rostelecom transferred more than 700 textbooks to the branches of the Pension Fund; in the Rostov region, 450 textbooks were transferred to boarding schools for the elderly and municipal social service centers; in the Primorsky Territory, textbooks are regularly donated to participants in regional and federal competitions for pensioners in the region. In Novosibirsk, Pensioners-Online, in collaboration with the Novosibirsk branch of the Red Cross in Russia, held more than ten field events in the region, where they also presented pensioners with the ABC tutorials.

In addition, in all regions of the Central Federal District, the first IT-family competition was held, the participants of which could be family teams consisting of representatives of the older generation and their grandchildren. They studied Internet literacy together, performed tasks together and received prizes.

This variety of training formats makes it possible for many people to join the program, with different levels of computer ownership, different interests, opportunities, incomes, and family composition. All this allows you to expand the audience, involve more and more people in the learning process who need it and are interested.
