2022: Acquisition by Proofpoint

On January 10, 2022, it became known that Proofpoint, a developer of cybersecurity solutions, announced the purchase of the Singaporean company Dathena Science, the creator of data protection based on artificial intelligence technologies. The amount for which Proofpoint buys the company was not disclosed.

Founded in 2016, Dathena develops a platform that allows you to assess the significance of data, ensures transparency and security of information in enterprise environments, and at the same time helps client companies bring data protection into line with legal requirements.

The platform developers also claim that it allows customers to control risks and reduce the risk of data leakage. The platform is based on artificial intelligence technologies, which are used to determine and classify the most significant data in the protected infrastructure.

Proofpoint indicated that integrating Dathena's AI-based development into its own data loss prevention solutions will provide customers with an "unprecedented" level of information protection and help them bring their digital infrastructure in line with current regulations.

Information protection requires increasingly complex and advanced solutions that cover the maximum number of different factors and features, especially when it comes to large-scale infrastructures; ultimately, AI technologies here are not just a great help, but a prerequisite for efficiency, "said Mikhail Zaytsev, an information security expert at SEQ.

For Proofpoint, this acquisition also ensures an increased presence in Asian markets.

Shortly before the takeover, Dathena raised $12 million in venture capital investments from entities such as Seeds Capital, CerraCap ventures, CapHormn Invest, MS&AD Ventures and Jungle Ventures.

For Proofpoint, this is the first acquisition after the company itself was purchased by the investment company Thoma Bravo in April 2021. The deal amounted to $12.3 billion.^[1]
