Prisma is a retail chain in Finland (part of the S-Group holding). Prisma stores are present in all the Baltic countries, and in recent years the chain has gained popularity in the North-West of Russia. 11 supermarkets and 6 hypermarkets have been opened in St. Petersburg. Important elements of positioning and growth are its own-brand products and high European service. Active international cooperation imposes not only high requirements for the competitiveness of production, but also impeccable compliance with all international financial reporting requirements. In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, it is planned to open about 30 customer stores.

History

2022: X5 bought stores of the Finnish chain Prisma, which left Russia

On June 16, 2022, X5 Group announced the acquisition of stores of the Finnish Prisma chain, which left Russia. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has already approved the corresponding petition of the Russian retailer. At the same time, the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

According to the press service of X5, as part of the transaction, the rights and obligations of a legal entity (with the exception of the rights to Prisma trademarks), which previously operated the Prisma trading network in St. Petersburg, consisting of 15 stores, are transferred under the management of the company.

It is noted that the work of supermarkets will resume until mid-July 2022 after the completion of the necessary legal actions, the minimum rebranding, as well as filling stores with X5 inventory. Almost all stores will be integrated into the Perekrestok retail chain.

X5 added that one of the main conditions of the transaction was the preservation of jobs for the operating personnel of the Prisma network and the fulfillment of obligations to its main partners, including landlords.

The planned closure of the Finnish supermarket chain Prisma in the Russian Federation was announced in early March 2022. Prisma has worked in the Russian market since 2008, it had 1,000 employees.

The possible purchase of Prisma stores by X5 Group became known in early May 2022. At the same time, changes were announced in article 14 of the law on trade, which prohibits networks from acquiring shares of other companies in a certain territory if their turnover for the previous year exceeds 25% in monetary terms within the boundaries of the subject (city, municipal district or district). The amendments proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade remove this restriction until January 1, 2023. This made it possible to purchase the assets of the Finnish retailer.[1]
