IBM transfers 350 thousand employees to the Slack messenger, having become the biggest customer

In the middle of February, 2020 IBM made Slack the main messenger for more than 350,000 employees, having become the biggest customer of the company. For Slack it is large victories, first of all over the main competitor - Microsoft Teams.
In the press release it is noted that both companies diligently worked on the project several years. Internal commands of IBM began to use Slack chat-application in 2014, and over time the number of users only grew.

Thanks to the project IBM became the biggest customer of Slack, but the close relations of the company were maintained by many years in a row. Batterfield also explained that close cooperation allowed to create the functionality of a chat, most convenient for the company.

Slack claims that by the beginning of February, 2020 of IBM it transferred to the messenger 300 thousand employees against 165 thousand the previous year. At the same time it is not specified whether IBM uses the paid version of Slack for all the employees or a combination of free and paid options.
IBM made the decision in several weeks after Microsoft began promotion of TV advertizing in the Teams messenger. In 2019 Microsoft overtook Slack by the number of users, however after cooperation with IBM the situation can change.
The manager of IBM who is responsible for transition Konrad Lagarde noted that the choice of IBM is based on quite simple reason - employees liked to use Slack, and they used it at own will still before IT department interfered.[1]
