2023: X5 bought the Amba chain
On November 2, 2023, X5 Group announced the purchase of the Khabarovsk chain of stores "Amba." The company did not disclose the financial and other terms of the transaction.
It is only known that within the framework of the concluded agreement, 71 objects of the Amba network will open Pyaterochka stores on the spot. The total retail area is 49.1 thousand square meters. m. 43 Pyaterochka stores will open in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, 14 - in Khabarovsk, 14 - in large regional centers. All points will be reconstructed and "will work in the modern concept of the Pyaterochka trading network" until the end of the first quarter of 2024.
The first Pyaterochka stores in the Khabarovsk Territory opened in March 2023. In total, by the end of the year, 100 chain stores will operate in the region. As noted in the press service of X5, the modern format of stores near the Pyaterochka house provides for more ergonomic planning solutions in the trading floor, understandable navigation and dedicated racks with promotional goods that are easy to find. In addition, stores have a large selection of fresh products and ready-made food. In the trading room there are coffee-corners with a coffee machine and their own bakery, which presents a diverse range of fresh bakery products.
By October 2023, X5 Group is the largest Russian retailer in terms of revenue. As of September 30, 2023, the company managed 23,466 stores, including 20,761 Pyaterochka stores, 955 Perekrestok supermarkets and 1,071 Chizhik discounters. Earlier, X5 management emphasized that the company plans to change its M&A strategy against the backdrop of increased competitors. X5 will continue to study the market and acquire local players in the event of offers, the retailer said.[1]
