Major BI Solution Providers (Vendors and Integrators)

GlowByte became the leader in the rating of BI system suppliers prepared by TAdviser at the end of 2023 based on the results of the corresponding revenue for 2022. Its revenues from the implementation of BI projects increased by 17.6% and reached 9.2 billion rubles. The second line of the rating of the Digital Economy League, it managed to increase revenue in the BI direction by 9.5% to 8.9 billion rubles. Both companies are ahead of all other players in the market by a notable margin.

In total, 40 companies took part in the new ranking - vendors and integrators of BI-systems. Their total revenue exceeded 37 billion rubles.

In the ranking prepared in 2023 by revenue for 2022, among the leaders of the BI market on the part of system integrators, the same players were most of them, and leading companies are characterized by a large share of additional services in the revenue structure. This is often due to the fact that the implementation of BI practices also requires the creation of an ecosystem for working with data and building corporate data warehouses, which is a very costly article. The first place in terms of profit earned is still occupied by the company, Glowbyte which is distinguished by one of the widest portfolios of BI platforms being implemented.

Customer requirements for BI are very different. Someone focuses more on self-service, someone on the beauty of dashboards, someone cares about flexibility in the implementation of users' wants, for someone it is critical to include a technological solution in the register of Russian software, and for someone a Chinese product or open-source is quite an acceptable option. Therefore, large BI integrators have to have a number of different products in their portfolio in terms of functionality and focus. For example, we work with BI solutions such as FineBI, Visiology, PIX BI, Alpha BI, Forsyth, Apache Superset and several others. If you look at the direct sale of licenses of BI-systems, without taking into account the accompanying work, the creation of QCD and improvements to the IT infrastructure, the leader is Navicon, which is implementing the Visiology platform developed in Russia and the OEM-licensed Delta BI. The second place in terms of license sales is occupied by the BI Consult system integrator, which demonstrates perhaps the widest set of software being implemented, including products from both Russian developers and open source solutions.

Also, according to data provided by TAdviser market participants, leading system integrators still consider Western vendor software to be part of their product portfolio. On the one hand, this is because by 2022 some of the projects implemented on foreign software still belong, and on the other hand, according to experts, for several more years the support of BI systems operating in closed circuits of companies without vendor support will have significant weight in the Russian market: in the absence of vendor service, the budgets allocated earlier for the renewal of licenses are transferred to the article of extended support by the remaining teams of specialists in Russia for Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, Oracle, SAP and some other systems.

Meanwhile, at the end of 2022, we are observing a change in the leader among vendors of Russian BI platforms in terms of license sales. If in 2021 the leading position was taken by Forsyth, whose products are widely used as part of large corporate implementations of the Gazprom ecosystem, as well as a number of other companies, then in 2022 Visiology came first. This is a platform that in past years has found extensive use in the public sector, as well as in enterprises of critical infrastructure and production companies with state participation. It is also interesting that only the market leaders in terms of license sales - Forsythe and Visiology companies - have FSTEC-certified versions of software products that can be used by KII enterprises.

One of the secrets of the success of Visiology is that we have started to create a new generation BI platform before others. The development of Visiology 3 was driven by the objective needs of the market, our existing and potential customers, and began long before the events of 2022. Even then, it was obvious that large Russian companies needed a low entry threshold solution that could handle billions of records at high speed, scale easily, and provide Self-Service tools with clear control of user access rights. Pre-launched development processes allow us today to offer the market a fairly mature product that makes it possible not only to solve migration problems from Western platforms with minimal costs, and not only with Power BI, but also Qlik, Tableau, Oracle BI, as well as develop modern management methods and build a single BI circuit within the company, - notes Alexey Nikitin, General Director of Visiology.

Visiology is among the leaders in the number of partners (system integrators) who added its BI platform to their portfolio in 2023. Despite the fact that the most progressive version of Visiology 3 with support for DAX syntax became available only in 2023, back in 2022 the number of Visiology partners exceeded 150 companies, and in 2023 there were more than 230, since the platform was already considered as a direct replacement for the most common Microsoft Power BI. The second place in terms of the number of partners is occupied by BARS Group with the Alpha BI platform, and the third place is taken by SL Soft developer Polymatica.

The first implements both its own BI solutions and the products of other developers. The second focuses on the execution of projects exclusively using third-party BI systems.

The BI platform itself is of no value to business unless it is integrated into an existing infrastructure, data sources are configured, the Data Warehouse is created, and visual visualizations are prepared to help you make decisions. Therefore, when preparing the rating this year, we asked the participants to share the income received from the sale of licenses and from the support provided, customization services, implementation and maintenance of products.

If we take into account the total amount of income associated with the implementation of projects based on our own BI developments, then the top three are the companies "Digital Economy League," SPC "Businessavtomatika" and "Forsyth."

At the same time, the data provided by the study participants showed that the ratio of income received directly from the sale of licenses with income from implementation services, support support can be very different. The minimum percentage in 2021 was shown by Visiology, for which the share of services amounted to only 3.4% of license sales, and the maximum - "Digital Economy League," in which services brought 27 times more than licenses.

Such differences are explained by the specifics of various BI tools and the scope of their application. Thus, more specialized solutions, as well as projects with a high level of customization require high costs for implementation and maintenance, which once again emphasizes the importance of allocating the cost of BI licenses from the general structure of developers' income during market analysis.

Another thing is the integration companies that use ready-made developments to implement their own projects in the BI sphere. As the results of the survey showed, many system integrators do not sell licenses at all, but are only engaged in the implementation of already purchased software products.
