2018: Alibaba was purchased by Data Artisans for $103 million
At the beginning of January, 2019 the Alibaba Group company purchased Data Artisans for $103 million. The Chinese giant of e-commerce cooperates with Data Artisans since 2016: the German startup provided to Alibaba services of support and software development open source, helping software developers.
Alibaba considers that new acquisition of Data Artisans will allow the last to reach "the new horizons". Alibaba is going to invest in further developments of Data Artisans, including Apache Flink and other systems of work with Big Data having an open source code. Alibaba she intends to provide to acquired company own developments of Flink.
This transaction reminds investments of Alibaba in 2017 in MariaDB. This startup is known that it offers a popular alternative to the MySQL database management system. In spite of the fact that this partnership did not turn into full acquisition, two companies actively worked together on new developments.
