Investment attraction, estimated at $2.3 billion
In mid-October 2021, Mobile Premier League became the new unicorn (a startup worth more than $1 billion) in the field of mobile eSports, as it held a round of financing with an estimate of $2.3 billion.
The investment round was led by Legatum Capital. It was also attended by Accret Capital, Gaingels and existing investors Moore Strategic Ventures and Leonid Boguslavl's fund RTP Global.
The MPL goal is to reach 300 thousand players and $100 million in gross commodity value by the end of 2021. The company did not say how much money it raised, but a source familiar with the deal said the company raised $150 million.. Cooley advised Mobile Premier League during the deal.
We realized that in a world where everyone is likely to be connected to the network and everyone will have a mobile phone with them, we should focus on a mobile platform. We had a simple value proposition: players install one application and find a whole bunch of games where they can compete with millions of other people in tournaments and win prizes. This has caught many players, "said Sai Srinivas Kiran G, co-founder and CEO. |
MPL with a history of more than three years, managed by Galactus Funware Technology, provides access to free mobile games such as 8-Ball Pool and Fruit Chop. Players can participate in both free competitions, as well as in battles and tournaments with real money. Most players are 20-35 years old.
As of October 13, 2021, MPL has more than 85 million registered users around the world. The startup notes that the audience service is growing rapidly.[1]
Attracting $95 million of investments
In early February 2021, the RTP eSports Fund of Leonid Boguslavsky, together with partners, invested in the Indian Mobile Premier League (MPL) mobile e-sports platform. After collecting $95 million in the series D round, the company's value amounted to $945 million.
The round was led by investors such as Composite Capital and Moore Strategic Ventures with the participation of Base Partners, RTP Global, SIG, Go-Ventures, Telstra Ventures, Founders Circle and Play Ventures. The total capital raised by MPL since its inception in 2018 is $225.5 million.
The coronavirus pandemic prevented most sports competitions in the real world, but only prompted the development of e-sports. MPL says it has quadrupled since March 2020, and more than 2 billion cash transactions have been registered in its applications. At the same time, MPL is actively advocating the democratization of e-sports in India and Indonesia with initiatives such as the Premier College League (CPL), which is the largest mobile e-sports festival in India. In November-December 2020, more than 13,000 gamers and more than 100 colleges in India took part in CPL.
MPL intends to use new funds to expand its portfolio and to organize other e-sports tournaments at the national and international level. The funds received will also be used to accelerate the international expansion of MPL in 2021.[2]
