Refusal to print paper checks in Moscow and St. Petersburg

On September 9, 2022, X5 Group announced that the online hypermarket Vprok.ru began to abandon printing paper checks in favor of a complete transition to electronic ones. While the transfer of buyers of Moscow and St. Petersburg has begun, and by the end of 2022 it is planned to abandon paper checks in all regions of the service's presence.

After making a purchase, the electronic check is automatically sent through the OFD (Fiscal Data Operator) to the client's mail or phone number, which he indicated when registering in the application. Contacts can always be updated in your personal account.

On average, the Vprok.ru delivers about 14 thousand orders daily, which will potentially significantly reduce the amount of difficult to recycle waste, which, due to its chemical composition, includes check tape.

An electronic check is a convenient solution: it is not lost, you can always remember your purchases, assess spending, but also such a check is more environmentally friendly than a paper one, so we decided to completely switch to an electronic analogue. In the second quarter of 2022 alone, our service delivered more than 1.2 million orders, so even such a small step will be able to reduce environmental damage. At the "pilot" stage, we have already received positive responses from our customers and hope that everyone will support our choice, - commented Igor Zatonsky, Director of Business Development and Operations of the Vprok.ru.

Reduce order delivery time to 2-4 hours in Moscow and St. Petersburg

Online hypermarket Vprok.ru Perekrestok has reduced the delivery time of orders to 2-4 hours in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as a number of cities in the Moscow and Leningrad regions. In order to receive an order in a shorter time, the buyer must place an order before 20 pm. This was reported by the Press Service of X5 Group on April 07, 2022.

Expediting delivery was allowed by the revision of the "last mile" processes: now forwarding drivers serve fewer orders in one flight, return to the darkstore faster for new batches during the day, and do not leave in shifts.

You can arrange delivery both on the website and in the Perekrestok Vrok mobile application, despite the decrease in the waiting period, the client will be offered a full range of online hypermarket, which at the beginning of April 2022 exceeds 72 thousand items: everything from fresh assortment to household and garden goods. In addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg, this service is also available in the region. In the Moscow region, delivery works in Krasnogorsk, Mytishchi, Khimki, Dolgoprudny, Lyuberets, Reutov, Troitsk and Odintsovo, in the Leningrad region - in Pargolovo, Murino, Kudrovo, Pushkin and Pavlovsk. The cost of delivery in 2-4 hours is 99 rubles, and when ordering from 3 thousand rubles, it can be issued for free. There are also no restrictions on the weight of the order: users, as before, can place an order weighing up to 500 kg. Both individuals and legal entities that are customers of the service can receive an order in 2-4 hours: charitable organizations, restaurants and cafes, offices, as well as representatives of large businesses.

Having revised and rebuilt the processes of the "last mile," we, first of all, listened to the wishes of our customers who face various consumer tasks every day: from purchasing for future use to re-purchasing the necessary goods. Reducing the delivery time while maintaining one of our main advantages - an assortment exceeding 72 thousand product names, brings the purchase for future use to a new level. At the same time, the quality of service and the fulfillment of orders remain the main priorities for us,
said Leonid Dovladbegyan, managing director of the online hypermarket Vprok.ru Perekrestok.

2020: Delivery of more than 3,618 thousand orders with a total weight of over 105 thousand tons

February 10, 2021 X5 Group announced the results of the work of the online hypermarket "Intersection Vprok" for 2020. In 2020, service forwarding drivers delivered more than 3,618 thousand orders with a total weight of over 105 thousand tons. Employees of the online hypermarket covered about 18,150 thousand km on the way to and from customers. This distance corresponds approximately to 47 flights to Moon or 490 round the world.

The most popular product among customers of the online hypermarket was ultra-pasteurized milk with a long shelf life - buyers purchased almost 1,200 thousand packages per year. The top 5 best-selling foods also included bananas (1,100 tonnes), potatoes (nearly 900 tonnes), sugar (roughly 880 tonnes) and onions (nearly 750 tonnes).

Among the most popular non-food products were pet toilet fillers - they are usually sold in large packages and weigh from 3 to 20 kg, so they are convenient to order online.

In general, in 2020, customers of the online hypermarket stocked up on bulky and heavy products with long shelf life, which are inconvenient to carry home on their own. However, the "frash" and "ultra-frash" categories (products with short shelf life) were also in demand. The online hypermarket adheres to strict rules for storing goods in darksters, where zones with the necessary temperature regime are provided for different categories of products - this allows you to ensure maximum freshness of products.

In 2020, Perekrestok Vrok organized a customer relations hotline, reduced the minimum order amount and provided free delivery for pensioners and people with disabilities. This option of ordering products at home was used by 44 thousand customers of the online hypermarket.

Perekrestok Vrok also continued to collect plastic bags from customers of the service. So, despite the temporary suspension of the action in the spring, employees of the online hypermarket collected 2 tons of plastic bags in 2020. During this time, almost 28 thousand buyers returned about 248 thousand packages, which were transferred for recycling.

The consumer loyalty index (Net Promoter Score) in Perekrestestka Vprok, despite the sharply increased demand for grocery delivery, is at 80%. St. Petersburg For Leningrad Moscow region 2020, the regions of presence also included: Nizhny Novgorod,,,,,,,, and Tula. Ryazan Veliky Novgorod Vladimir Tver Kazan Cheboksary Rostov-on-Don

Launch of a new, largest distribution center

In September 2019, the Perekrestok retail chain presented its new dark store ("dark store"), a distribution center that supplies products for online purchases. It is located on the 2nd kilometer of the Lipkinsky highway in Moscow. The TAdviser correspondent visited the new site and found out how it works and how the Perekrestok online supermarket works and plans to develop.

Distribution center on Lipkinsky highway was launched in mid-August

The dark store format differs from the warehouse in that the storage of goods in it is organized as in a supermarket - on the shelves from which the order is collected, as well as the availability of premises for other purposes. For example, bakeries, shops for cooking fish and meat for sale, etc. In the future, it is planned to expand the functionality of the dark store to collect orders of ready-made food, according to Perekrestok.

The new dark store was opened in the wake of the dynamic growth of online supermarket turnover Perekrestok.ru. Located on the territory of 18 thousand square meters. meters, this distribution center has become the largest platform of this format at Perekrestok.

About 70-80 cars were used to deliver orders from the new dark store as of early September

Investments in the new dark store amounted to about 600 million rubles, Leonid Dovladbegyan, director of strategy and e-commerce at the retail chain, told TAdviser. According to him, the need for a new distribution center arose against the backdrop of an increase in the volume of online trading of Perekrestok. In 2018, the turnover of the online supermarket amounted to about 1.3 billion rubles, and in the 1 quarter of 2019, revenue increased 4.5 times compared to the same period in 2018, Dovladbegyan cited.

The company has not yet estimated the market share of its online supermarket in the food delivery market, but plans to do so in 2020 with the involvement of experts.

"Heart" of the new dark store - operational management headquarters

The online food ordering market is one of the fastest growing areas of e-commerce, and it is growing faster than physical retail, notes Leonid Dovladbegyan. At the same time, the overwhelming majority of the food delivery business falls on the purchase of food for future use, he added. Other segments are the re-purchase of products, which involves express delivery, and the purchase of ready-made food, for example, from restaurants.

In addition to the distribution center on Lipkinsky highway, the company has two more in Moscow significantly less in area - 4 thousand square meters. meters and 800 meters, as well as one center in an area of St. Petersburg 7 thousand square meters. One of the differences between the new dark store and the rest is the presence of a mezzanine zone in it, where low-turnover goods are separately stored. Also in the new center, the range of goods was expanded, the layout was improved, the company explains.

Main, "dry" room of the distribution center

As of the beginning of September 2019, about 300 people work in the new dark store, about 70-80 cars are involved in the delivery of orders. But the scale will grow. By the high season, up to 500 people and 100 cars will work in the warehouse, according to the data in Perekrestok. On average, the number of orders of an online supermarket is 3.2 thousand orders per day, on peak days - about 4 thousand. By the end of the year, Perekrestok expects to reach an indicator of up to 7 thousand orders per day.

The main areas of the distribution center include a "dry" room - there are goods that do not require special storage conditions, a cooled room with a temperature of + 5C, a freezing room and a mezzanine area, where goods are stored that customers most rarely order.

Rows of fridges like a regular supermarket
The temperature in the refrigeration room is + 5C

Leonid Dovladbegyan told TAdviser that the kernel of application software for working in the dark store, including WMS, CMS and ERP, the company uses self-written: "we have not found suitable ready-made solutions," he explained. When creating application software, the developments already existing in X5 Retail Group were involved, Dovladbegyan added. All systems are powered by the X5 Retail Group IT infrastructure.

The mezzanine area for storing low-turnover goods is located at the upper level of the center
Examples of items rarely ordered from an online supermarket
Moving tape is installed to run the collected orders down from the mezzanine zone

Goods, shelves and boxes with goods, boxes in which orders are collected, are marked with bar codes with unique numbers, which are entered into the warehouse management system database. By scanning the barcode by the data collection radio terminal, inventory is recorded and the movement of goods is monitored: the system always knows how many goods are left on the shelf, which goods were packed in the order.

From the system, order collectors receive tasks for wearable terminals. The system also draws up routes for drivers, who then need to separate the collected orders.

Order Collector Wearable Terminal and Barcode Reader

Theoretically, it would be possible to keep records using RFID tags instead of barcodes, but the question arises who will glue the tags on all goods, say Crossroads.

One of the packing points of the order

Leonid Dovladbegyan notes that there are prospects for automation of the dark store "Crossroads," but it is unlikely to reach the use of robots in warehouses for collecting and packing orders, as in some foreign companies, in the near future, since it is not yet economically feasible.

File:Aquote1.png
I saw pipelines of fully automatic order assembly. Until it became cost-effective even abroad. And in Russia, the economic reality is that we have a different cost of employee labor - it is cheaper than in the West, and equipment, on the contrary, is more expensive. Therefore, this will not be effective in the near future. We studied the issue of deep automation, and so far we do not see any prospects in this, - explained the director of strategy and e-commerce at Perekrestok in a conversation with TAdviser. - But at the same time we have a dream to create a completely robotic object, we are interested in it.

About 2 thousand people are employed in the online business of Perekrestok

As of mid-2019, a total "Intersection" of about 2 thousand people are employed in online business, and by 2020 it is planned to expand the staff to about 2.8 thousand people.

2017: Online supermarket launch

Perekrestok launched online trading in 2017. In the same year, the first dark store was opened. Initially, the collection of orders was carried out both on the basis of the store and on the basis of the dark store, but, having gained the first experience, the company came to the decision to develop online sales only on the basis of the dark store.

Collecting orders on the basis of a physical store, firstly, does not guarantee the availability of goods at the necessary moment, since it is bought by customers who come to the store, and it is inconvenient to store the goods separately for online orders there, explained Leonid Dovladbegyan, director of strategy and e-commerce at Perekrestok. And secondly, the collection of orders interferes with customers in the store. In addition, in a regular store it is more difficult to organize accounting for goods intended specifically for online sales.

According to Leonid Dovladbegyan, the dark store model was borrowed from British retailers such as Tesco, for example, and finalized for Russian realities.
