TAdviser interview with chief executive Hiyas Aidemirov

About how Spacebit is becoming, and what niches in the information security market it seeks to occupy, in October 2021, TAdviser was told by Hiyas Aidemirov, Executive Director of Spacebit. Read more here.

Creating a Company

As TAdviser found out, in January 2021, Informzaschita Group of Companies established a new company - Spacebit[1]. According to the database of legal entities Kontur.Fokus, "the general director of the new, 100 percent" daughter, "was appointed one of the founders, the president of" Informzaschita "Pyotr Efimov.

Informzaschita told TAdviser that Spacebit will focus on developing its own software products in the field of information security (IS). The company's task is to become a "full-fledged vendor" and occupy its niche in the software market, creating progressive competitive software products.

Petr Efimov, in a conversation with TAdviser, noted that "Informzaschita" has been present on the information security market for 25 years, and during this time it has accumulated a deep understanding of this market and changes in it. He recalled that "Informzaschita" already has experience in bringing the development division into a separate vendor structure: we are talking about the company "Security Code." In the past, this was done so that the vendor was not limited to interaction with only one integrator - Informzaschita, since in the case when the developer is internal, there is distrust of him from other partners, Pyotr Efimov explained.

Another argument in favor of the development department in the case of the "Security Code" is to focus as much as possible on product promotion, since the "Informzaschita" itself has more than 100 vendor partners.

According to Pyotr Efimov, Informzaschita has invested about 250-300 million rubles annually in the development of its own products over the past few years "(photo - BIS Journal)"

The creation of Spacebit can be called a repetition of the path along which the "Security Code" followed, and the allocation of development in Spacebit is due to the same reasons, follows from the words of the president "Informzaschita." Pyotr Efimov explained the prerequisites for creating a new company as follows:

The information security market is much wider than the needs that cover the products of the "Security Code." Moreover, new directions and tasks appear. Spacebit will aim to find underdeveloped niches in the information security field and enrich them with new products. The company will not compete with the Security Code, as it will target niches where the Security Code is not active.

"Informzaschita" is interested in close cooperation with Spacebit, added Peter Efimov.

According to the president of Informzaschita, Spacebit, like the Security Code, did not appear from scratch: it already has its own software development that has been created over the past few years. Petr Efimov told TAdviser that at the beginning of 2021, 3 of the company's own products are in a high stage of readiness, and 2 products are in a "good degree of elaboration."

First of all, Spacebit products will be of interest to the corporate sector and the public sector, and in the future, as Peter Efimov expects, medium-sized businesses will also pull up.

During the year, it is planned to bring four products to the market, says the president of Informzaschita. The first, until the end of February 2021, will be the AOKZ information web system (automation of the cryptographic protection body). It allows you to automate the life cycle management of cryptographic information protection tools (CIPF), work with key documents and media, centrally control the organizational structure of the cryptographic information protection body.

Many companies have the need to "put things in order" in crypto protection tools, and for licensees, the FSB is a mandatory requirement, they say in Informzaschita.

By the way, "Informzaschita" cooperates closely with the FSB. For example, in 2019, the FSB and Informzaschita signed an agreement on interaction in the field of detection, prevention and elimination of computer attacks within the framework of State system of detection, prevention and elimination of consequences of computer attacks.

According to Pyotr Efimov, by the time AOKZ entered the market, it was "tested" on potential customers, and one contract had already been signed for its supply.

We want to fully work out the launch of the first product to the market, analyze some possible errors, and then, as we are ready to release the rest of the solutions, - said the president of Informzaschita.

The Spacebit website mentions another product in the pending release status - X.Role. This is a system for auditing and monitoring access rights to corporate resources of the organization.

Petr Efimov told TAdviser that all Spacebit products will be submitted for inclusion in the register of domestic software and will undergo the necessary certification. AOKZ is already present in the register.

According to Efimov, Informzaschita has invested about 250-300 million rubles annually in the development of its own products over the past few years, and expects that investments will remain at approximately this level in the near future.

We plan to continue investing, we are likely to have new products as new opportunities arise. But the amounts, of course, will depend on how the company works, - said the president of Informzaschita.

The Spacebit staff at the time of creation of the company is already staffed and has about 100 people, the company told TAdviser.

In 2019, CNews cited data that the Security Code in the Informzaschita Group accounted for about 30% of all revenue[2]Pyotr Efimov says that this figure should not be guided, since you can count a share of the turnover in different ways. What share of the turnover of the Informzaschita Group of Companies may fall on Spacebit in the future, he preferred not to predict yet, but expects it to be significant.

The main owner of the "Security Code" in 2019 was the head of "Lanita" Philip Gens - he now owns 85% of the company. As for the possible sale of Spacebit in the future, as happened with "Security Code," Pyotr Efimov, in a conversation with TAdviser, mentioned the common phrase "never say never." He also cited the words of one of the American billionaires, who said that any company is created in order to be sold.

File:Aquote1.png
This scenario is not excluded, although I can absolutely say that now we are not creating a company in order to sell it later. So far, it is premature to talk about it. But if the prospect of a profitable deal appears, then I do not exclude its discussion, - says the president of Informzaschita.

Security consultant Alexei Lukatsky says that in the public sector and large companies there is a large number of niches in the field of information security, which are not closed today, especially not closed with Russian products. If you focus on the products that are mentioned in the regulatory framework developed, for example, by the FSTEC of Russia, there are a considerable number of requirements that cannot yet be closed by Russian products, he said in a conversation with TAdviser.

File:Aquote1.png
The niche here is quite large, especially considering that the security market in Russia consists of more than 50% of state customers, "says Alexey Lukatsky.

In addition, recently the FSB has been quite strongly increasing regulatory requirements in the field of security, the expert added. At the end of 2020, they issued a draft order approving requirements for the protection of information contained in state information systems using cryptographic information protection tools. Alexey Lukatsky suggested that, perhaps, it was under this initiative that Informzaschita can create the AOKZ product, which it plans to bring to the market first.
