2024: Revenue growth by 16% to RUB 128.5 billion
At the end of 2024, the revenue of the Spar supermarket chain in Russia (Spar Middle Volga LLC) reached 128.5 billion rubles. This is about 16% more than the previous year, when the company received 110.9 billion rubles. Such data are reflected in the financial statements released at the end of March 2025.
Spar's gross profit rose on an annualized basis by 27.8% to 36.8 billion rubles. Profit from sales increased by 18.2%, reaching 5.4 billion rubles. At the same time, net profit decreased by 18.4%, amounting to 219.3 million rubles.
According to the information and consulting agency INFOLine, in 2023 Spar became one of the ten largest chains in Russia specializing in consumer goods (FMCG). Russian Spar and discounter Smart are part of the Sweet Life group of companies, which at the end of 2023 showed revenue growth of 37.6%.
The first Spar store in Russia opened in 2001 in Nizhny Novgorod. As of March 2025, the chain has 200 supermarkets in 12 regions in the Russian Federation. Four formats are developing stores - Spar, EuroSpar, Spar Express and EuroSpar Express. Spar's fresh staple supermarkets have an area of up to 800 square metres. In turn, EuroSpar are large supermarkets for family shopping, covering from 800 to 3000 square meters. Spar Express and EuroSpar Express are laconic assortment and quick service stores with an area of 100-200 and 100-300 square meters, respectively. The company calls maintaining and developing mutually beneficial partnerships one of its priority tasks. In Spar supermarkets, conditions are created for maximum availability of customers to various types of services, goods and services.[1]
History
2015: X5 Retail Group acquires Spar chain of stores
X5 Retail Group acquired in the spring of 2015 from A&NN Investments, co-owned by Alexander Mamut, a Spar chain. Kh5 bought 26 stores: 11 in the capital, 7 in the Moscow region, 8 in Vladimir. The area of each of them ranges from 400 to 1600 square meters. Most supermarkets will be included in the Perekrestok chain, several in Pyaterochka. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) approved X5's motion to acquire Spar supermarkets at the end of March. The A&NN Fund invested in the Spar Retail project in 2009.
