On September 23, 2024, it became known that the construction of a ground metro began in Yekaterinburg. The costs of implementing a large-scale project are estimated at 193 billion rubles.

According to the resource URA.Ru, referring to information received from the mayor of Yekaterinburg Alexei Orlov, the railway line is planned to be laid from the Compressor Plant station to the Koltsovo Airport station. The total length of the line will be about 10 km; five stops will be provided on the route. According to Orlov, one of the main difficulties in the implementation of the project is the congestion of railways.

To increase the number of intra-city trains, you need to look for windows [in the schedule]. This is such a difficult task, since there is a lot of freight transport in connection with all the famous events, "says the mayor of Yekaterinburg.

In general, the new route - Novokoltsovsky - is part of the promising Yekaterinburg central passenger ring, which also includes the South-West route and diametrical links with Sredneuralsky, Berezovsky, Verkhnyaya Pyshma and other nearby cities.

Digitalization

Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of the Sverdlovsk Region

2025: The authorities of Yekaterinburg approved 2.2 billion rubles for the digitalization of the city. What the money will go for

On October 27, 2025, the authorities of Yekaterinburg approved a program for the comprehensive digital transformation of the urban environment. About 2.2 billion rubles will be allocated for the implementation of the planned measures.

The official document "Development of the digital environment in the municipality" City of Yekaterinburg "for 2026-2030" is published on the website of the city administration. The order to start the implementation of the project was signed by the mayor of the city Alexei Orlov.

Yekaterinburg will allocate 2.2 billion rubles for digital transformations of the city

As the publication "Uralinformburo" points out, the main tasks of the program are to increase the level of security and stability of information processing, as well as strengthen the protection of data with the status of state secrets.

According to the city administration, the share of electronic socially significant services for the population is already reaching 95%. Citizens send 98% of requests digitally.

Uralinformburo clarifies that many information systems of various levels are operated in various divisions of the municipality. However, a significant amount of documents are still processed manually, which creates consistency problems and leads to duplication of data. This reduces the effectiveness of the administration of Yekaterinburg and its structures.

The authors of the program believe that the problem can be solved by creating conditions for easy interaction between various departments through the digitalization of the work of the municipality.

The program provides for the introduction of information technologies and software solutions in all structures of the administration, the creation of a unified database for the exchange of information between departments, the transition to domestic software and hardware, as well as the creation of a secure data transmission system that prevents leaks.

According to forecasts of the city authorities, thanks to the implementation of the program by 2030, all municipal services will be provided electronically using Russian software by 95%.[2]

In the Sverdlovsk region there are a number of measures to support the IT sector. In addition, the region uses a patent taxation system.

Russoft also notes that in order to develop the IT industry in the Sverdlovsk region, an annual competition is being held for the governor's awards in the field of information technology (in the amount of 300 thousand rubles each). The main task is to promote IT solutions, find talented scientists, managers and specialists who can offer extraordinary innovative ideas and projects.[3]
